only saw him live once, Sydney in the 80s, unforgettable, some young fan ran onto stage, bouncers were about to flatten the guy, Rory shielded him and they sang ShadowPlay together, the entire theatre went bats as the fan sank to his feet at the end of the song and washed Rorys feet with our collective tears of admiration

Good story. Thanks! That sounds like a Buddy Guy concert at the Westbury Music Fair (I still call it that). A young woman got on the stage and started twirling around to his Blues so that her colorful skirt fanned out. She was ushered off a few times and finally stayed off.

Seeing Rory playing live was religious experience - no video can adequately show the amazing soulful energy Rory would create on stage. I have seen him back in 1974 and to this day it is one of best concerts I remember. Had a chance to talk to him a bit after the show - he was very un-rock-star-like person - as he said in that "Irish Tour" documentary "I do not want to get too famous so I cannot just walk into a pub and have a drink with friends".

In the early-mid-70's, myself and a couple of friends worked at a small AM radio station in southern Illinois. That's where I first discovered Rory, through a copy of the "Tattoo" album, which is the studio version of this song. This song, along with "Admit It", were my two favorite songs to play on the air. We only had the one album, but thanks to us, southern Illinois got some exposure to Rory back then. I know I played him a lot. And, that remains my favorite album of his. And, one of my biggest regrets is never getting the chance to see him live. I do love the KZbin videos, though.

I can't remember if I have posted on this before, but it bears repeating. My first ever live gig was in 1974 in Belfast when nobody, apart from Horslips, would play there (they couldn't get the insurance for the gear). Rory played every year, the highlight of the year in a bleak music scene. I was blown away. I always really loved this song above some of the louder, faster numbers, it was so sensitive, so blues. Great man, and thanks Rory for making me pick up a guitar in the first place.

Why Rory Gallagher is my idol: On a tribute video to SRV, Eric Clapton stated that while playing, Stevie Ray never had to stop to think what he was going to play next, because "the music just flowed through him". I think the same applies to Rory: he just seemed to be an unstoppable force on stage, seemingly effortlessly weaving excellent blues solos together. On top of that, he was a great singer, terrific songwriter, wonderful showman and from what I've seen, an all-round stand-up guy.
