Not just as a guitarist, but as a person.. I've heard was one of the nicest people ever. There is a story Brian May tells, that he saw Gallagher before he was a professional and accosted him, to ask him questions and gain some knowledge. He spend a solid chunk of time to talk to him just after a concert, where I imagine all he wanted to do was take a shower. Then, when May made it big with Queen. Again he bumped into Rory... He spent exactly the same amount of time to talk to May before and after he had gained worldwide fame.. What a bloody lovely guy...

Rory is an absolute hero to those of us from Belfast, Taste got their start in the Maritime Hotel Belfast (where Van Morrison and Them also started.) In the 70s when nobody would play Belfast Rory always played at least once a year and even in the late 80s this shows were seldom less than two and a half hours (so no surprise his strat neck had to be hung in his mother's shed for 6 months to dry out.) He was a great acoustic player too, and the show always featured a few songs with teles and a Danelectro. We are still trying to get a statue of Rory erected outside of the Ulster Hall (where he always played.)

Well done to you sir for introducing people to rory gallagher, people who might not have heard of him without this video, the 2 albums you chose tracks from (photo finish & top priority) are in my humble opinion his best studio albums. Hearing rory's music as an irish kid was mind blowing and absolutely inspirational to think an irish dude could make a guitar sing like that. Rory Gallagher is the reason I picked up a guitar at 10 years old and 32 years later I will be forever grateful to the G man's music for leading me down the road of life as a musician, the people I meet, the towns I see, the roads travelled, the good/bad venues, every second of it treasured and worth it. theres always a few of rory's songs on our setlist every night as a mark of respect and admiration,

A cliche often used but in Rory's case, his guitar really was an extension of his mind and body.

Rory was such a lovely man. 😊🤍 He treated people so kindly and never seemed to turn down an interview. The most popular one on KZbin, people made statements of Rory looking high when in reality he'd just finished 3+ hour show. He was still sweaty, dog tired and the interview was done on stage, but he gave detailed answers packed with passion to all of the questions. It's just terrible he died in his 40s, before I could see him live myself.

I love that you briefly covered Rory Gallagher!! My dad listened to/watched recordings of Rory Gallagher Live At Montreux constantly growing up, and I'm so grateful he did. I could listen to Shin Kicker endlessly. Something interesting I heard was that he actually had more acidic sweat that wore down the guitar even more than usual, and in turn, affected the sound. His 71 debut solo album 'Rory Gallagher' is a thing of beauty
@gerd54792 жыл бұрын
Rory was incredible. I saw him live in his prime and his electric playing was so intense, it was mesmerising. Next thing he would pick up his acoustic and play a solo set without his band, with harmonica in tow, but the intensity of the performance never wilted. Back into his electric, before rocking out with his mandolin on ' going to my own town'. He even played a damn good saxophone on his solo album. There are guitar players who play the blues because they want to, or maybe because it might be a good career move and there are guitar players who play the blues because they have to. Rory was one of the latter. I reckon that is why he could never take up with the stones, or indeed Deep purple, who it is rumoured had an interest in him as a replacement for Ritchie Blackmore. Gallagher had to play the blues to an audience who had to hear it. Arenas, Stadiums with pyrotechnics, dry ice and the rest was not his bag. He was a blues man, the real deal and he is still sorely missed by his fans. He also had a lovely humility about him, thanking his audience after each and every song for coming to the show. A very unique talent

The crowd kept screaming for Rory and he was allowed play long after his cut-off time at Aerosmiths expense. When Aerosmith finally took the stage the crowd started throwing bottles at them screaming for more Rory. "That night Rory Gallagher was just too good to stop" An absolute guitar hero.

Thanks so much for pronouncing Gallagher as we do in Ireland. English people can sometimes change our names in a manner that can feel a bit demeaning in a kinda colonialist hangover (Still prevelant with comedians like Dylan Moran, Dara O'Briain etc) so it carries extra care to us Irish when you show him that extra respect. Also it's not a very common name so just an FYI, Donall, also spelled Domhnail is pronounced to rhyme with Dough as opposed to Donald, so Dough-Nall is how that's said. Lovely to see appreciation for my personal hero, too often neglected in terms of song writing. Glad to hear fellow fans perspective who has a platform to promote some a someone who's often forgotten

The Rolling Stones story is true. Also Jimi Hendrix once was asked what it’s like to be the best guitar player in the world and he said you’ll have to ask Rory Gallagher. I’m from Cork and he is truly the biggest inspiration for me guitar wise coming from the same place. Tattoo’d Lady would have to be my favourite record of his, but he can’t go wrong really. Thanks for the Rory vid 😃

Yessir. Said He was waiting to see what was going on so he contacted Mick but he was busy and didnt want to fool with him so he said to ask Keith. Keith was messed up on drugs and booze so Rory didnt waste his time. He had a gig lined up in Japan already so he said screw the stones and went to Japan.

Hendrix story is sweet but nothing points to it being true..

That Hendrix story often gets repeated but has been proven false. Hendrix was invited on some talkshow and when asked the question pointed to the guitar player in the tv show's band and said those lines but with the name of said guitarist, not Rory.

@@jrkchannel37 Apparently its true was in an interview at the Isle of Wight festival, wasn't allowed go it as I was only 14 at the time but had the pleasure of seeing Rory play live at least a dozen times only on the UK would have loved to have seen him play in Cork. Did see the Band of Friends play in Cork though.

When you got through Jack White, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream and the old guys like Muddy Waters etc. and then suddenly your father comes with Taste "on the boards" and asks you, if you've ever heard of Rory Gallagher. :) P.s.: Don't forget his Telecaster and Resonator... and the Mandolin.... and Saxophon....

I believe it was a Fender esquire plus he played the Coral sitar.

@@castleofsong9620 Fender Esquire, cool didn't know that. 👍 So with Esquire/Telecaster it's the same thing as with Fender Musicmaster/Duo Sonic, one pickup but same body.

Bad Penny is my personal favorite. So good! So underrated. Thanks for putting some spot light back on him for those who may not know his work.

Was lucky enough to see him 3 times. Jerry Hall was in the audience when I saw him at the Bottom Line in the early eighties. He was a major influence for me as a young player and for those of us who grew up in Europe we understood why a street in Paris was named after him. Live he was beyond. To say he connected to the audience would be an understatement: he channelled the audience. He was one of a kind. There will never be another Rory.

The Rory Gallagher festival in Ballyshannon (his birthplace) is back on this June for the first time since before COVID, it's gonna be so good! I live 30 mins from it :) They have a great statue of him on the town centre.

Rory was a gentle creature off the stage and a monstrous beast onstage. His influence is still felt by new players today.

Rory Gallagher was my Kick for listening blues rock. Remember the Concert in Germany which was aired from the 70s and I was watching around 2000s, when I was trying to get into musician stuff even with a hearing loss, since I was born :D

Rory Gallagher let my 6 brothers and me a stray, as young boys we got to hear some of Rory’s music on the radio we were hooked immediately, We travelled far and wide all over the lands to get to see Rory and his band playing live. Every time we got to see Rory and his boys playing live, iut was better than the previous brilliant gigs, Rory would rip up the stage and set the place on fire every night. Now Rory has gone I spend some time trying to learn a few licks on one of Rory’s old guitars, but It will never sound that same since Rory left this town to enjoy his eternal reward in Heaven

Rory was a bad ass. Guitar player yes, but song writer too! And from all accounts an awesome person. Alex Lifeson raves about him. One of their first tours Rush opened for Rory. He was always cool to them. Later when Rush got huge Rory opened for them and they all hung out. He said Rory was a wonderful person. Kind and generous.

Totally agree.I was in a "punk" band that supported him in France for 2 weeks in 1979.Obviously at the time I was not a blues fan but I gradually watched more and more of him and he was amazing..the energy, the sweat, lol. And what a thorough gent he was,he used to let us share his rider and I never ONCE saw him drink. One of my fondest memories is when he'd introduce the band. ."Et sur le batterie,Mr TED McKENNA!!" Which impressed the hell out of me cos I loved The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.hey..Zal Cleminson?Justin have you seen the live version of Framed in Sweden?awesome in every way. Love all that you do P.s met you at Newcastle City Hall some years ago with my son, he was about 11.Singstar boy?

Love SAHB. Zal was a huge influence and all of Alex's songs were pure poetry, eg The Hammer and the Anvil.

@neale floyd...so you know the story...he was recording in San Francisco with a hot shot producer (record co's idea). The Pistols were playing Winterland (which ended up being their last gig at that time). He goes & afterwards scraps the whole LP & reconfigures his band as a three piece. They eventually released the LP & some of the same tracks are on both but they lack the energy the way they were recorded originally. Saw the man many times, met him once after a gig, nice man. Still an inspiration for me. Glad you had the good fortune to tour with him for a short time. It was all out every night.
