Thank you for your thoughtful discussion of Rory's post-Taste albums. My intro to Rory was seeing him on live concert TV shows in the US in the early mid-seventies, and saw him perform live on my birthday in 1978. It was a genuinely transformative experience and no other performer I've seen, before or since, has come even remotely close. For me, each album is a precious piece of Rory at different stages of his brilliant musical and lyrical journey, all a reflection of where he was at along that journey. To me personally, all are equally superb. I can't get through a day without listening to Rory, and truth be, whichever album I'm listening to at any given time tops the list - as it would be impossible for me to rank them, akin to choosing a favorite child. There's such diversity of music on his albums, that however I'm feeling, there's always one that fits. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts and spreading the word on Rory - the musician who is, and will always remain, top on my list.

Hi Ash. Just discovered your channel and have subscribed. Don't have all the R.G. studio albums but, of the ones I own, my order would be : 1. Photo Finish. 2. Top Priority. 3. Calling Card. 4. Tattoo. 5. Deuce. 6. Self titled. 7. Defender. I'll be working through your other videos in next few weeks.

Like you said, they're all good. You can't go wrong with any of them. Having seen Rory at the Hammersmith Odeon twice and once at the Marquee(!) during 78-79. Killer concerts each one. I always have Calling Card at the top. Such great variety, jazzy inflections and excellent co-production with Deep Purple bassist. Apparently Rory wasn't that fond of this production but still the best to my mind. Then Top Priority and Photo-Finish. Obviously reflecting the years I saw him perform but those three albums are particularly strong albums on all tracks. No duffs! Live ones are harder to rank as they are all brilliant but also very different in approach and feel. Do appreciate the post releases like Check shirt Wizard '77 and Blues not to mention What's Going On Live at the Isle of White. That is just sheer incendiary!! Love them all and miss Rory! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for this run down-I always like to hear other people's opinions and any YT video which talks about Rory and introduces him to a potential new audience is always appreciated. Mark Feltham was actually a part of Rory's band from 1984 until Rory's death, and he was one of the few people who was allowed to be with Rory while he was in the hospital in his final months. And Photo Finish is my favorite as well-it was the first album I bought of his. Brilliant album. But then again, I think most of his stuff was brilliant, each piece in its own way. Photo Finish is my #1 for sure, but it becomes so much harder after that. Calling Card is #2 for me. I'd move Defender up in the ranks, but #3-5 are harder and would depend on my mood. Deuce, Top Priority, his debut album and Defender all jostle for those positions.

Hi, glad you liked my video, and yes, all the Rory albums are difficult to rank... they are all brilliant really... but it's fun to do these album rankings... Thanks for your input and the info about Mark Feltham... I saw him in Nine Below Zero back in the early 80s... a great musician... cheers..!

The correct pronunciation of Rory’s ancient Irish surname recognises that the second “g” is silent, which means that it’s actually pronounced as if it is spelled in the English language - “Galla her”.

defender I would say is top 3
