Charles Malki, Biologist & Plant Expert from ivorganics.com/ teaches rose plant care; specifically, sunburn, insects, mold & rust remedies.
In this video, the 'Double Delight' Rose was featured--a rose that was planted back in the 70's at the residence (the same decade this amazing rose variety was discovered!).
Here are some facts about the 'Double Delight' Rose:
A hybrid tea rose bred by Swim & Ellis and introduced in 1977.
Its parents were two hybrid tea cultivars -
the red and yellow 'Granada' (Lindquist, 1963) and
the ivory 'Garden Party' (Swim, 1959).
Winter hardy up to −25 °C (USDA zone 5), but can be susceptible to mildew and black spot.
The cultivar needs sunny, warm places, but can be grown in containers
Used as garden rose and as cut flower.
Awards:
Gold medals in Baden-Baden and Rome in 1976,
Fragrance awards in Geneva (1976),
All-American-Rose-Selection in 1977
In 1985, the cultivar was inducted into the Rose Hall of Fame

Thank you for the information Charles. My wife wants some Double Delight roses now! We have a 15’ row of Seven Sister roses that were planted in 1960. They are about 8’ tall even after the branches are weighed down with roses nearly to the ground. It’s adjacent to our vegetable garden so it benefits from the roses as well. Your video has me interested in learning the background of our roses!

Hello Lapriest1, The Double Delight & Mr. Lincoln are my top two favorites! I have a new video that is going to published in the next day or two that I filmed at the Theodore Payne Foundation in Sun Valley, California-- a nursery that specializes in making native plants available to the public while also supporting your local ecology & habitat for pollinators (plus insects, birds, etc) by adding just 1 or more native plants into your garden. In this upcoming video, I share a plant that supports up to 5,000 species of insects, birds, etc... It should be one of our best publications to date... Stay tuned & Great to hear from you! :) Charles

Is this product good for roses planted in pots placed in partly shaded area, that has white spots on leaves? If so will the spray bottle kind of this product produce the same results (asking because I didn't see neem oil in it's ingredients list)?

the info you had on the leaf miners was very informative. I've had chard leaves that I thought were sunburned. I hope I didn't eat any of those things. I'll definitely be more careful now.

Great video thank you. Your daughter is beautiful 😊 So, I guess using this product will mean no more beneficial lady bugs on the roses. Would it harm the lady bugs as mine are covered in them while they munch on aphids. Also, do you think this product would help stop my hydrangea leaves from burning? Thank you

Hello from India...Your flowers are so beautiful and your plants are very healthy. Here in India summer temperature often touches 40 degree celcious. I have a double delight plant which I've planted in the winter. My question is, can this plant tolerate that much heat and please give me some tips regarding its care during summer months. Thank you.

I'm living in India too(Patna)...and bought this beautiful Rose by random luck in Asansol...I've kept it facing north side where in Summer months it gets minimal light so that it doesn't get burned in summer months..but I'm worrying for it in winter months where Sun doesn't reaches my north side window for 4 months or so...

Hi Charles. Great informative video as always. I want to ask you if you can direct me where i can get this beautiful type of roses to plant them in my new rose garden that I’m about to finish. I was looking over the internet but can’t find them . Maybe you know sellers or , perhaps you can sell me bare root or cuttings? Thanks in advance.

Are those double delights grafted or own root? Also, did you plant them below the graft union or above?

You should plant your grafted rose's grafted area into the soil. In colder areas of the world you would probably want to plant the rose even a couple of inches further down in the soil to protect the graft from harsh winters

Let's look at the facts here...when you say hardy to -25C, what exactly do you mean? Cane hardy or crown hardy?? A cane hardy rose is automatically crown hardy, meaning that it will survive on its own/natural roots in freezing soil. On the other hand, many crown hardy roses are not cane hardy by a far stretch in freezing temperatures. Double Delight is not cane hardy to -25C and needs to be grafted onto an understock for survival in zones 4-5 climates. Winter here dictates how much cane damage we have to prune each spring. I have no choice but to prune my Double Delight down to as low as 2-6 inches in spring after removing winter protection. You won't have this problem in California n'or British Columbia.
