Silvia Federici on Marx - and how he helps to understand why capitalism needs sexism.
Silvia Federici is one of the most important feminist thinkers of our time - anyone looking for profound analyses of the role of housework, violence against women, or the importance of control over the body in capitalism inevitably encounters her writings. In this interview with marx200.org, she discusses how helpful it was for her to have already read Marx in her youth - and what insights a feminist perspective on Marx can offer.

I cannot express how eye opening this is. It’s like a missing puzzle piece that gives the tools to connect marx’ work and method to everyday life. Like with my spouse/partner and lens on how I can become a better and better collaborator in life together.

She's brilliant! I wonder if she sees a connection with the Industrial Revolution and the Art Nouveau movement that was a protest against the dehumanizing effects of mechanization? Art Nouveau was distinctly curvilinear and heavily feminine.

Hi. Sorry, we just produced German subtitles. English is only available as the automatic KZbin subtitles, which are not very good, but help a little. You can switch them on in the right corner at the bottom of the video. On the little toothed wheel next to the subtitles button you can switch German/English.
