I got to meet Roseanne and everybody in the video while they were making this. I was a Louisville police officer and my wife was working security for them so she called me and I went downtown to see it.. Roseanne signed my album cover and talked with me for quite a while. She was very nice. A couple of months later I was shot in the chest and she heard about it somehow. I got a poster and a personal note form her while I was still in the hospital. Been her number one fan for 30 years now!

I ADORE this song! I have no idea why it strikes such a chord. I've never cheated, and to my knowledge, my husband never cheated on me. I think it's just the sheer beauty of the haunting melody; the tone of her voice. The lyrics are so powerful. It's a study in how someone can be so terribly cruel . For whatever reason, it may be my all-time favorite song.

Johnny Cash's daughter has never been underrated. She has been able to choose her carreer moves and has managed to achieve her goals while having a family life and enough privacy. If she wantwd to be more famous or more successful she'd be there already...

This is the way we make a great John Hiatt song even greater. Bravo, Rosanne, bravo Rodney, and bravo, to all the magnificent musicians and production team involved! This whole album was a classy salute to, soul, roots, pop --all kinds of good things mixed together and comin' out country! Among her best.

What are you talking about? She had 21 top-40 songs, 11 of which went to number 1, she had 3 gold records, and was nominated for 15 Grammy awards, winning 4. Additionally she was nominated for 7 ACM awards and 11 CMA awards, and has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. That's more recognition than probably 99.999999% of singers on Earth have ever had.

I worked on the production crew for this 'back in the day'! Here's some interesting trivia... - The video was shot mostly in the old Belknap Hardware building in downtown Louisville. At the time it was abandoned and the building was later demolished. You can see the demolition - it's the building destroyed at the beginning of the Sylvester Stallone/Wesley Snipes movie "The Demolition Man" - The Kings Records part of the video at the end was shot on location in front of the actual record store, which was located on Jefferson St. in downtown Louisville. We rolled up in a caravan with a police escort and closed the street down for 15 minutes to shoot the closing shot. - Rosanne, the band and the entire crew were wonderful to work with. They treated the crew well and were patient even through the inevitable hurry-up-and-wait tempo of production. My part of the crew spent a good deal of time between setups in a trailer with the women doing backup vocals, who were lovely and great to spend time with. Goes down as one of my favorite memories at the very start of my career. So very cool to see this video after all these years.

Then… I kept scrolling through the classics… I Don’t Know Why, I Wonder (which sounds like it was recorded yesterday), Seven Year Ache, This is the Way, on & on. I’d forgotten how many great songs she had that still stand up today. Thanks, Roseanne (and Rodney!)

@@rosannecash2965 I have been a fan since I've been in sixth grade so around 1980 when you came out with 7 year ache and blue moon with heart-ache. And of course my mom loved your dad and I loved your dad too. Wow I'm flabbergasted LOL. I was in radio TV broadcasting for 20 years but had to hang up the headphones in 2016 because I'm one of 80,000 people in the United States that has that Gene deficiency that causes COPD lucky me I know. I also just got done with lung cancer as well. But your voice is like an angel and your video to I don't know why you don't want me is got to be the best video in the history of mtv/vh1 or country lol. I bet that was fun to make. Thank you for your comment and I will always always always always be a fan. And if somebody could ever tell me why don't they play more 80s country on the radio that bothers me I'm sure you've heard of Gary shores from k100 in Toledo he's been there since 1975 when it was wtod-am. But yeah I worked with those guys. Never got to do country radio as a disc jockey mainly top 40 and adult contemporary. I made them add seven year ache though to an adult contemporary station back in like 2000 here in Toledo on the river 101.5 FM. LOL.

Also, before this recording in 1987, Rosanne recorded this song as a duet with its composer John Hiatt, in 1983. Her then-husband Rodney Crowell produced, but the song failed to take off the way he believed it should have. So in '87, he produced this recording with Rosanne singing it solo, (except for her backup vocalists), and a different arrangement. That time, the song got its much-deserved notice. Other known artists have covered it as well, but none of them took it to big-hit status. I believe Rodney deserves much of the credit, because he's such a fine songwriter and musician as well as a great vocalist in his own right. He also has an outstanding gift for arranging songs.

The perfect combination of a great songwriter with a great performance. It seems so effortless but when it’s over you realize that you’ve been enthralled.

@@kjell110352 Her mom was Sicilian/Texan and supposedly Johnny thought he had Mexican in him, but a genealogy proved he was pretty much Scottish. For years I thought my Fraternal grandmother was Mexican, but her maiden name was Wackerly and she had blue eyes. Supposedly, there's a lot of Scots that look Mexican including Johnny.
