Found this song in a Woodie Guthrie songbook. Learning it now. Happy to see Tom Morello also loves this one

I still think the best version is by Nino Tempo and April Stevens. I haven't heard it since 1964 and can't seem to find it anywhere.

I heard an excellent version back in the late 80's that I never found out who it was, but it was excellent. I still occasionally scour the internet trying to stumble upon it but I haven't yet.😵💫

Does anyone know the chord progression she is using??? It doesn't match the woody guthrie version online. I would love to learn her version!

with capo on 3rd fret and using G chords shapes it is in Bb.... but in open it is G C G D Em C G .... using the Em gives it a moodier feeling which i like too...

@@direwolf6234 Yes, this version is nice and suits her voice and style very well. I have a version in Alan Lomax's book of Folk Songs of North America (1960) that just has E-E7--A-E-A-E-B7-E but I change that to E-E7-A-E-A-B7-A-E because it sounds more like the Arlo version which I like. But whatever works for the singer, I say! Really, the rhythm is the most important thing in a song like this --next to the words, of course!
@paracelsusify2 жыл бұрын
Huh. I just watched a video of Arlo playing this in the '80's. He just used G-C-G-C-D-C-G. So whatever works!

Updated version: "...some will rob you with a 9mm and some with a computer." You would have to change things up to make it rhyme.

Песня баллада про гангстера Красавчика Чарльза Флойда. Который грабил банки в 30-х, в США. А за одно и сжигал кредитные истории обычных американцев! Можно сказать, своего рода Робин Гуд !
