Rosanne's garden has been designed and installed over a period of twenty years, with no master landscape plan. Yet, by following a few simple design principles, discussed in this video, her garden has the look and feel of a well-planned and cohesive garden.
Join her as she discusses her first major project -- landscaping for curb appeal. See the garden plan, and the results, all in one video!

Roseanne, I was a helper at the last Master Gardener plant tour and had the pleasure of working your garden. I loved your yard and, now that I’m redoing some of my spaces, have been watching all your videos for the trees you’ve got. Your videos are some of the best available on you tube for Zone 4 gardeners and I’ll be copying some of your design ideas. Keep up the good work! Can’t wait to see more.

Thank you so much for all of this wonderful advice! I’ve been overwhelmed with all of my empty space and I didn’t know where to start. After you talked about creating a theme-I paused the video, did some research on garden themes, and decided what direction I wanted to go in (a woodland like, cottage fairy type theme by the way lol). Then I came back for the rest of the video and was truly in awe of your plant choices/distribution, giving me even more inspiration! Great job putting all of this together for us; keep up the good work.

@@RosannesGarden I am watching your videos from a place where many of your plants wouldn’t even grow well (Italy, probably zone 8/9 US), but I’m just amazed by how harmonious your whole garden looks. You need both a great knowledge of plants and a natural innate good taste to achieve this. Many people overdo it with too many flowers, too many plants, or just a composition that’s too boring or and lacks diversity and depth. You on the other hand are on a higher level of garden design. Will be looking forward to your future content for sure, whatever you decide to put on this channel will be (virtual) gold for us who can only dream to be this talented. Maybe one day (or maybe never)!
@RosannesGarden

Greetings to Italy! Thank you very much for that generous endorsement! I'm glad that you appreciate my garden style. You are correct in that I strive for diversity through layers and textures. It makes the garden interesting and gives the eye a lot more to absorb in any given view. Not everyone likes trees as much as I do though 😕. Our trees are critical in our design because they give us another layer plus they provide intermittent sun and shade as one strolls through the garden. I appreciate your support. Thanks.

I absolutely love your home and garden. This Spring we are going to start landscaping our backyard. Your video is helping us a great deal. We haven't a clue how to start. I take it that doing one section at a time is the best way to start. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us.
@RosannesGarden
@RosannesGarden 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lisa! I'm glad the video was helpful to you. I think that doing one section at a time is a good way to start, especially with limited time and budget, as was our case. As a hypothetical example, in your back yard, maybe you just start with a dining /seating area in the first year, Next year you might want to create flower beds on each side of your yard (think balance), and the following year you create beds along the back, and the following year you connect them all together. It's a process, and you will undoubtedly move some things around as your garden evolves. That said, if you have the resources to tackle a bigger scope, by all means, go for it. I wish you all the best on your spring project. 🌷

@@RosannesGarden you are so sweet. Thank you so much. I never thought about doing the sections as you said. It's absolutely makes tons of sense. I think the seating area is probably the biggest part of what we want to do in our backyard, so sensibly, that would be first. Trying to think about and do everything all at once is mindboggling to me and I quickly become confused and then not motivated. Thank you so much again.
