You know, different languages have different orthography and pronunciation rules. The only language with a mess of a writing system here is English, just look at the words "bow" and "bow", "read" and "read" and "though", "tough" and "thought".

Helpful hints: gc, dt, and bp are pronounced representatively g, d, and b, this is because of vowel mutation. Also note that mb ng and nd are m, ng, and n. The h vowels go ch=the throaty sound in some scottish dialects (think lo*ch*) th, sh= just "h" mh, bh= a sound somewhat like "w" but more 'poppy' dh= like a very faint "th" as in *th*e and fh is just silence. I wish I could simplify things but Irish just isn't an easy language.
