While nations like the United States of America could be considered a similar idea, note that the native tribes didn't actually claim the land itself - many didn't even believe land could be claimed. I love Ireland, Irish culture, the language, Irish people, and especially Irish music. Truly quite a tragic history in many ways but so many of the songs are joyful. I spent a few days with an Irish friend a few years ago and I just felt so loved and accepted. My friend is a very optimistic person with a lot of love to give. I was ill part of my trip but I hope to go back some day and spend time on the countryside or on the coast. It was really such an inspiring place.

Bluegrass comes out of Appalachia. That part of the country was settled by Gaels - the Scottish and Irish. They brought their culture and traditions with them, including their music. When the song mentions 'from a land across the sea' - that's America. After the Black '48, there were so many Irish refugees living in America, that a great deal of money for the Rising came from Irish-American fundraising. In fact, the original music for this song was composed here in the US, and the first official recording was also done here in the US. The lyrics were written in Ireland.
