I so agree, I am a breast cancer survivor, since then gardening makes me happy and relaxes me. Thank you for your tips, my mom was a huge rose geek but she has passed away so I need advice many times. I like Craftsman clippers, I just change out the blades. I love those supports too.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I inherited my two oldest roses from my grandma who was an amazing gardener and succumbed to cancer in her 90’s. Roses are a beautiful way to remember our loved ones.

@sandyhossman I just saw this rose advertised from Regan and thought of you. Pink Promise is a very fragrant rose chosen to represent the National Breast Cancer Foundation as they search for the cure.

I have found my people!! I'm the only one around here that adores roses and fusses over them! I took a picture of your rose schedule!! I need to do better with my babies. And I have learned soooooo much from you! Ive been using my leaf blower because of the set ups of my beds, after I learned from you about removing debris. Question?? Do you check the ph level on your soils? I bought a meter and haven't ventured to use it yet. I also have some minis planted in pots. Sooo love and enjoy your videos! ❤️

I laughed when I read your comment “I have found my people”!!! My neighbors think I am crazy out measuring roses, blowing the beds, walking around a million times a day to see the babies. 😂 it’s comforting to know I am not alone.

To answer you question about ph: I use the meter mainly for water but briefly look at the Ph of the plant looks really sad. I typically go to my local extension office with my soup samples. I will start looking at the PH meter though to see if it is reliable and I will let you know.

If you want to encourage new shoots from the crown on an old rose should you leave a large area uncovered by mulch around the crown?

I created a calendar last year but we didn't make one for 2024. Here is what you should capture on your monthly calendar: - Fertilize organically once a month (Rosetone). Start this 6 weeks before your first bloom. In zone 8, I start mid april and go until mid September - Water potted roses weekly and Fertilize weekly or biweekly. Use a water meter to check during the really hot days to see if you need to water more often. You don't want them to be dry for more than 2 days. - Deadhead blooms daily or as needed -After each flush, prune the rose down to waist high (not climbers). One Time blooms should only be trimmed after the first flush so that you don't take off next years blooms. - After pruning, use cane sealer. - Remove leaves for any roses that have disease or bugs as you see them. At the minimum, I remove the affected leaves once a month when I fertilize. - Treat for pests and disease only as you see that you need to. Take the least invasive approach. For me, removing the leaves is the easiest thing to do. If I need a spray/treatment, I use Bonide products that are organic. - Stop fertilizing (monthly), 6 weeks before your first frost. - Have a soil test performed every other year so that you know if you need to add anything to your soil. I hope this helps!

Do you use farm yard manure to fertilise?

Hi. I use Black Kow to fertilizer. Although next season I may do have of the yard in Black Kow and the rest with mushroom.

@@TheRoseGeek thank for the reply. I alway use farmyard manure with my roses but am curious to know what other people may be using. Would be interesting to see how you get on with mushroom compost. I wonder if there’s a benefit from the fungi in the soil as I generally add mycorrhizal fungi around the roots of new roses when I plant them either from pot or bare root.
@TheRoseGeek
@TheRoseGeek 3 жыл бұрын
@@myopenmind527 It sounds like you and I are currently on a similar plan with manure. For me, the most important thing I focus on is organic and slow release. I will be trying a new organic fertilizer this week and hope to create a video on it. Please consider checking it out in case it is something you may be able to use in the future.
