Marry to the future Queen of Oriana is really a good plan for the future as basically you(Cid) are technically set for life in wealth and royalty as your wife(Queen) will basically run the country and do all those diplomatic stuff while the husband(king) can either help her a bit or just sit on the throne doing minor tasks or just do nothing and enjoy being a royalty or just do his usual Shadow stuff behind the scenes.

Cid's random whims always seem to accidentally cause the success of some elaborate unrelated plan, so it's very funny when there is a backfire. His attempt to be the "loser with a winning spirit" against Rose in the tournament didn't just create an admirable weakling story, but planted the seed of admiration. Thus, when his attempt to be "random red shirt who dies a pointlessly at the start of a terrorist attack," didn't fade into distant memory, but changed that seed of admiration into pure love, thus Rose joined his endless harem, also without him realising it.
