I started off with the 1907 then added the 875 as a second pair. I still own the 1907. The extra room just works better for my feet. I wear them without the added leather insole. I bought the 8883 after getting rid of the 875 and other than the Concrete Rough & Tough taking longer to break in they're now just as comfortable as the 1907.

I bought my 1907s first about a year ago and I absolutely love them. The most comfortable boot I have. I just got a pair of 875s a few days ago and still breaking them in. I put the 1907s through hell and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Would love to see a comparison with the 10875 (from the work line rather than heritage). I recently went in to buy a pair and ended up going with the 10875, and I've been quite pleased with my purchase. They had my size in stock, I dig the logo, and they were even a bit cheaper.

Tried on 875s and 1907s in Wisconsin at a RW store a few years back. For me, the sizing was immediately different. Not sure if it was the insole or a mistake, but the 1907 felt tighter on the instep of my foot. The 1907 also had slightly less length. Same size and width, too.
@SteevWho

I recently purchased a pair of 1907's and experienced the same thing, in store. Having had other boots that were leather, and had leather foot beds, I knew they would Bed In, and they do pretty quickly, and your foot sinks down into the boot. Also, I heard somewhere it was a good idea with 1907's to take out the insole, giving you more room, bed them in, then later put the insole back in. It will take a lot less time to break in the insole, and cork will already be the shape of your foot.

I had the opposite experience! Interesting. I went with the 1907 because they had a wider toe box and instep compared to the 875. The rep had 4 pairs of 875’s and 4 pairs of insoles to get them to work for me but the 1907’s fit immaculately with whatever the foot measuring thing said.

I own both of these, 1907s and the Black 8849s and I also have some of the newer Thorogood 1892s with the 'waterproof' liner . 10.5D for all, and I vastly prefer my 1907s to the 8849s. I have worn the 8849s as my daily driver work boot for about 6 months before needing a resole, and ironically they have stretched out so much from work that the 1907s have a more snug fit. I'd still be rocking my 8849s but I took a chance on a different resole and didn't like the result, maybe I'll have them done again with another RW or a vibram christy. Comparing both RW boots to the Thorogoods they definitely feel more solid than the Thorogoods, but the thorogoods needed ZERO breaking in to feel comfortable. I doubt I'll get much life out of the Thorogoods like I have all of my RW boots, I picked up the thorogoods with a boot voucher from work while I am waiting for a set of Nicks Overlanders to be built. I also have a set of 10D Iron Rangers, and for my personal foot - the Iron Rangers are EASILY the best fitting boots and most comfortable. I've also had them the longest and it's like giving my feet a hug whenever I put them on. My feet measure a whisker under an 11 in a Brannock and between a C and a D in width.

Great video!! I own the 1907, a beautiful boot, maybe the nicest I've ever owned(?) I love the copper rough and tough leather. Tip: If you do get these, break in without the insole, wear your foot into the leather footbed + break in the leather upper. Then, 1-2 months later, put in the leather insole. Initially a tough break in, but now I really like them. I do not wear these on the jobsite, though-- too nice. ... I purchased the 875 for my GF, who wears it all around plus on the jobsite-- a great boot as well. As in the video, I think the 875 last fits a touch thinner than the 1907. In the 1907 I can wear a 12D, in the 875 I wear a 12E. Nice products.

I just bought the 1907's yesterday and so far I love them. People talk about the break in being torture on these American Heritage series but these really aren't that bad. It may be because they have the leather insole. There is a little bit of a rough feel inside on top of my foot and a little harsh on the heel because they're a snug fit, that will break in with a little time. I can easily wear them 8-9 hrs a day out of the box though. The trick is to not buy them loose at all. I tried the 12 wide because the 12d are a little tight but too much play is what will hurt you because of the stiff leather. They should almost feel a little too tight and then they will stretch to perfection. If they fit with too much wiggle room out of the box they will stretch too much and not be as comfortable in the long run. That has been my experience anyways. Thorogood and Red Wing are my favorite Moc Toe boots so far. Ive never tried Nicks or Whites though. I also tried the Red Wing Traction Lite boots and they have too much cushion in the sole. My knees were hurting with those boots. The more firm sole is actually better, it might just be me but I found firmer is better.

I actually own both model boots, 1907 in size 11D and 875 in size 10E2. From day one, the 1907 was much easier to break in than the 875 and the 1907 feels way more comfortable with the cushioned insole. Regardless of the differences, I enjoy wearing both boots equally. So for those people with wide feet, you definitely will need to purchase different sized boots in order for your feet to feel comfortable in them.

I've got my 1907 in 2008 and still love them. Got them resoled about 4 times now. I've just noticed that the actual quality of the sole has been worse. Wears out far too quickly that before. Done my first resole after 3 and a half year and then almost every two years. I live in London so there's always opportunity to wear boots. Just last year I've got my first Iron Rangers and very happy with them too. My collection is growing. P.S. I also got the suede version and they soo conformable I think I break them in in like a day or two.

I appreciate the work you do in informing us what to look for to make sure we don't kill our feet! I'm looking for a platform shoe for work so I can reach top shelves and not use a stool and reach the back of a workbench, etc and a 2-3 inch heel would be great but the boot would need to be flat platform style and good quality. I like the classic combat style look that Dr. Martens provides but I would just like a cognac or medium brown color. I can't seem to find any like this with high quality. Please help? The closest I could find were some Thursday combat boots that have just a 1.5" heel and I'm not sure about the quality of the sole.

I’ve owned a few pairs over the last 11-12 years. They are comfortable boots but the soles are trash. Anyone working hard in these boots will know. Once they start to wear you will lose traction quick. Any wet surfaces like concrete or steel and they become useless. Redwing needs to give buyers the option for a better sole and I would give the boots another go.

It is a bummer that the storm welt is fake. I actually have both boots (in different colors) and I always thought the 875 felt lighter and more comfortable. The 1907 with the insole feels "stuffy". I somehow accepted this as a side effect of having a more water resistant boot, but now that I know the stitching is fake, I feel better about 875 and worse about 1907. If you like the foam insert or wider toe go with 1907, otherwise I think you will be happier with 875.

Red Wing may say that the 875s and 877s are built on the last, but the toe boxes are very different. The 877s have a wider toe box, which similar in appearance to the 1907s. If 877s and 875s use the same last, then the leather panels that make up the boots are “clicked” differently.

I'm not really a fan of the copper rough & tough leather on the 1907. Initially the leather stands out as looking "vintage" and slightly worn, but after a few cleanings and conditionings it just ends up being a dark brown. The oro-iginal or oro legacy leather from the 875 or 10875 respectfully takes on a much better wear pattern and color in my eyes. This is just one mans opinion though.

From my experience I can say if you have a wide foot go with the 1907. I have an very wide foot but the 1907 in 9.5EE fit perfect. I have had mine for 2 years and they never come off my feet I use them for work I use them for hiking (I’m in south Florida so flat ground wouldn’t recommend for rocky trails as they don’t have tread) I clean them up and wear them casually they are perfect for any occasion. If you are going to buy a pair just know that breaking them in will be a long painful process but when they are good and broken in there is nothing more comfortable.

After watching the video I'm glad I feel better about my decision to go with the 1907's. I got em for a GREAT price, and I have slightly wider feet so the fact they're more roomy is works out. I also much prefer the copper rough and tough to the orange looking oro legacy leather. The toe also doesn't seem to look as bulbous at the tip compared to the 975. Thanks again for what you do brotherman!

@@epierce59 I carried the exact same fear but I really do just like the copper rough and tough that much more that I knew, no matter the results of the video, that I probably made the right choice. I have Iron Rangers too, which I lathered on a little mink oil to help them match my belt better which may sound silly but I’m picky and I like a darker brown. But I think I’m gonna just lightly brush my 1907’s and let them patina naturally to see how that turns out. Thanks for the comment brotherman.

The redwings boom or peak in Japan was in the mid 90s of the last century. 80s was "American Casual" style whilst the 90s was Workers' style globally. Both styles have RW. In mid 90s Japan-only edition like the red leather 8875 as well as the light yellow roughout leather version of moctoe were only available in Asia. I guess over 90% consumers in Asia were merely following the fashion trend.

If you don't really care about the colour all that much, then I would suggest the 1907 because you have a better bang for your buck. The leather footbeds (and a pair of leather laces you get in the box) add up to way more than an extra 10 dollars in retail. That being said, Oro Legacy is only on the 875, and it's what I wanted, so it's what I got.

I bought the 8138 model a few weeks back and wear them almost daily. It was my first pair of dressy/casual boots and I just purchased the 1907 since I really wanted that style/color originally. Excited to own both pairs and wear the hell out of them over the years. I wear a 10 and in both boots I got a size 9E2 and they fit perfect. I have a narrow foot and heel.

I weirdly just bought a pair of Indy boot knockoffs from Wested and I want to throw my 2 cents in after having them for about a week they are pretty comfy on the feet, although I needed to get some thick outdoor worker socks and a pair of heel inserts cause I hate that hard dress shoe heel material they are not as slippery as I thought for a shoe with literally no tread on the soles. the insole appears to be leather, which is nice and my friends and loved ones who know boots got amazed when they thought I actually bought Aldens overall, more of a cosplay boot in my opinion, but I could easily wear these around, but unless I saw them cut in half I wouldn't know whats in em (probably not much)

I own both pairs. The 875 was much easier to break in than the 1907's and I'm still working on the 1907's. I do prefer the looks of the 1907 though. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I hate hate fake shit. Hood scoops that don't function. Stuff like that. I hate it. But I love the look of the 1907's (fake) "Norwegian" reverse storm welt. I ain't looking to get another pair of moc-toes anytime soon, but when I do, it'll be the 1907s.

Found myself in this predicament last year, it’s probably worth mentioning that the 1907 is arguably better value as it comes with about 50 bucks worth of free accessories in the footbed and the laces. I ended up getting the 877s in the end so all was for nothing, but if I had to choose I’d go 1907

Go with the 877s. 8-inch boots are FAR more comfy than than 6-inch boots. They feel like the slipper socks you may have worn as a kid. Red Wing also made/makes the Copper Rough-N-Tough in an 8-Inch version.

My only issue with the 877 was the fully gussetted tongue. Made it a pain to get on and off in my experience. It’s why I switched to thorogood for my 8” boot. Much easier to get on

The $40 set of free insoles makes the 1907's the no-brainer over the 875's. Also they look 100% better. The soles wear through like butter though.
