I'm a lineman, spend most my day in a bucket, a man basket or walking uneven terrain. I wore the thorogoods for 2 years and loved them from day 1. I did tear them up pretty good but working 70 plus hours a week for 2 full years will do that. I recently switched to the Irish setter because of the waterproofing. Have had them a month and I'll say the break in was definately hard. I'm hoping they'll have slightly better construction along the lines of Red Wing. They're comfortable now. Look great, feel great. When It comes time to climb a pole or tower I choose a Red Wing logger with a shank. Standing on a flat hard surface all day moc toe is where it's at!

Had my thorogoods about 5 years now and have had no issues. The break in is virtually non existent and as long as you keep them clean and oiled up theyll last. I think it all depends on your line of work too. Mine have been on concrete to wood floor to asphalt shingles and the sole hasnt worn much at all.

@@conductorcammon I don't own a pair of Thorogoods, but have considered buying them. You get insoles of different thicknesses so you can see what works for you. I think the removable factory insole is thick enough that at least a thin Superfeet would work! Hope it works for you!

I think the most important factor in any footwear decision is the health of your feet. And an important aspect of that is having an insole that is proper for your foot ergonomics. Everyone's feet are different and the ability to use custom or off the shelf orthotics is paramount. I can appreciate the fact that leather insoles if made properly can shape to your foot and they do a great job in my ostrich dress boots or my around town shit kickers. But when it comes to the shoe I am wearing every day at work while carrying equipment through job sites and spending all day on my feet it has to have a slip in insole or Im not buying it. And the main gripe the coblers had with the thorogoods was that the flimsy foam insole that comes with it wore out... Its meant to be easily replaceable if not replaced immediately before even breaking them in. You dont need to be a cobbler to replace them and I think that may have been why they didnt like it, less business for them.

Kyle, you're on to something. The single most important factor in choosing a boot is Fit. Problem is, most folks go about selecting Fit by trial and error. Knowledge of the 'last' proportions and fit character and how it relates to your foot dimensions, proportions and geometry is a good start. A shoe-maker offering a wide selection of Widths will represent a commitment to Fit: The manufacturing economics with a much larger investment Lasts, Dies and Patterns will greatly improve your chances for a Great Fit. And, with a highly structured, well built boot, Fit ought to be the main objective. Compromise in fit means conflict, conflict means pain. My advise? Go to a local Boot Guy that knows his/her stuff, measures both feet, makes small modifications, has a large investment in in-stock Inventory. Someone that will take care of you with after-sale service, (that means they want to keep you happy and be your Boot guy long-term) I'm one of those Boot Guys, fifty years as a fitter, Cped... We're busy because folks that rely on their feet to earn a living have discovered the difference. Moc-Toes? We have 8 different styles, which one was made with you in mind?

Exactly. I made a mistake of buying an expensive heritage boot without regard to comfort. I just went by reviews and the material the boot was made with. I ordered the boots. When I got them they looked beautiful. The problem is they are not comfortable at all and a huge pain to break in. I would have much better off getting a comfortable boot I could wear daily. The boots I have are an expensive ornament in my closet.

I'm waiting on the Whites crew to call me with my measurements so I can order the Perry's. I've owned the Redwings (875) and hated them. I could not break them in. But I have the cheaper Redwing Irish setters and LOVE them. So comfortable! My son's wear Thorogoods and they think they are the best. Lol The Thursdays look like a more feminine style moc toe to me, I wouldn't even consider them. That's just my taste though... Awesome series, Sir.

I like that the Thursday boot are more slimmed down as me I have a narrow toe box. As a traditional work boot it's definitely not good enough but like Stridewise I live in NYC and having to walk around trying to break in Red Wings would be annoying as you only walk and never drive here.

I’m really happy with Thorogood. They break in first day and stay comfortable. Maybe the synthetic materials are to thank for that, maybe they just help profit. I’m pretty loyal, but whites are appealing. If there was one complaint about my thorogoods, it’s that laced up tight the sides are practically touching. I wonder if eventually my oldest pair won’t be able to tighten up anymore.

Wishing you a speedy recovery! I just had the Whites, Redwings, and Thursday boots last week for trying on with the intention of returning two pairs and keeping my favorites. It was pretty easy for me to rule the Thursday boots out quickly. They didn’t really have the workweek aesthetic and build that I am looking for. It was much harder to decide between the Redwings and Whites but in the end I kept the Redwings. The Whites were really nice but I felt like they were a little too wide for my foot, whereas some people dislike how narrow the D width Redwings are it actually works well for my feet. I also think that over time the leather on the Redwings (I got the 1907 Copper R&T) will take on a nicer patina but time will tell on that one. Thanks so much for the videos! Looking forward to the winter boot series when your feeling better.

Just bought a pair of redwings about 2 weeks ago if you want the best experience buying boots you’ve ever had go to a redwing store and get sized and fitted they have very experienced people there and it’s really like nothing I’ve ever experienced anywhere else the build quality on a pair of redwing Mocs is unbelievable but you better get ready it will take you a solid 3 weeks of breaking them in but once you do there’s really nothing else that compares !!

I do a lot of heavy shovel work.So the White's perry are my choice because it has that metal shank.Which will help in the long wearing.That metal shank is in the inpack area where the shovel hits the sole of the boot.

When you have the last 4 boot brands on the table check out the two brands in the center. The Thursdays and the one with the American flag box. The Thrusday boot cut in half looks like the same color as the American flag box boot. But they aren't the same I don't think. I wonder if it's another example of the yellow or blue dress optical illusion.

I really enjoyed moctober. I had bought a pair of Thursdays diplomats, around April, after spending a lot of time looking at reviews and videos of literally the whole lineup (except whites). Personally I found that due to the seam at the back of the heel on the Thursday it was the only bit that took any length of time to breakdown and make them really comfortable, and I really enjoy them. But that being said I think the whites look like a really great boot and possibly would have been my choice if they were available at the time. My only pet peeve is that the shank is inside the sole. That would be something to bear in mind when getting them resoled as you'd probably want your cobbler to fit the exact same sole or go for a vibram and a separate shank bedded up into the cork. But to reiterate, unbelievable job done by Weston he's literally made every quality/money conscious buyer aware of the current available options and made our lives a whole lot easier. Great job again!

Thursday boot is the metro man boot. Red wing for the work man boot. Whites good in between boot. I've only had red wing lineman boots was a pole climber when I was younger. They worked great and lasted quite awhile. And I used to wear sears mock toe but that was back when they were made in America and still a company I'm talking early 70's.

I bought the Thorogoods and the Red Wings. Ended up keeping the RWs and sending the others back, BUT... TGs were comfortable and probably would’ve been the ones to keep if, like some of you guys, I actually did hard, dirty physical labor. I’m a teacher by trade and a weekend outdoor enthusiast who is tbh more interested in style than hardcore functionality and value. The RWs were so tough to break in, I did think I’d made a mistake, but now I love ‘em and wear them pretty much daily from October-March.

I've been wearing Thursday Diplomats every day for work for over a year now and I love them. Gotta go with team Stridewise for this one; I keep a boot brush in my locker and when I get off work I just brush off my Thursdays and hit the town on Friday nights. They're a perfect "going out after work" type of boot.

the real question is whether you re buying casual or work boots. In my book only rw and thursdays are aesthetically on point. They are clean without overdoing it with contrast stitching and details. Logos and brand marks stamped all over have no place in the casual or classic bots. so if one is buying the boot for office and town, but wants that it can take hiking, rain or even a bit of snow or work if needed without problem I see no point even looking at anything other than rw or thursdays. Here RW are more robust and rugged looking. If boot is for work mainly than you can save some $$ going with thorogods maybe, or even danners or some cheaper brand. If we look at materials and construction than it is close call between RW and Whites. Rw is leather lined ( toe box ) ( still cant see whats that inside the white, looks like textile ), the insole in the RW is dramatically thicker and stitching is prob at least as good. Whites have somewhat thicker leather all around ( at least in styles compared ) and has a shank. Also that counter is cardboard which is unnecessary saving imho. so materials / construction RW/Whites are very close. Fashion wise I think RW is absolutely more versatile and clean design. Price is not a big difference, and RW has a ton of options, leathers and styles... also it has proven quality. So all considering rw is still number one as cobblers said. Would like to see more mocs added, trumans and others...

I hated my redwings, most uncomfortable boots I ever wore. I have a very narrow foot and they stretched too much and made my foot loose inside them. I even bought them small and dealt with tight boots knowing they'd stretch, but they stretched too much. I also never thought they had enough "cushion", I stand on concrete for 10-12hrs. a day. They felt like I was walking around barefoot. I only weigh 130lbs. so I gave them the best shot possible to be comfortable because I didn't over stress them by supporting a 200+ lb. dude. I stuck with them until the sole completely worn to nothing (4yrs.). I went back to redwing loggers after that, they haven't let me down and they're cheaper. I would like a second try with wedge sole though, everyone says they're the most comfortable. It wasn't true for the red wings, but maybe another brand.

I’m in the oil and gas industry and my preference has always been the 8” thorogood( with steel toe). No break in period, top comfort level and suprisingly light. But for daily wear, its the redwing for me. Especially, the rough out leathers. The most handsome looking boots in my opinion!!! Have a couple of them in 6” and 8”. All of them, except for 1 pair are rough out leathers. 8874 and 879 are my favourites!!! Anyway, get well soon Weston!!!

may sound crazy ive had red wings thorogoods but the longest lasting pair ive had were dickies.......bought them at jc penny outlet store in 1990 or so lasted me 4 years....were a light color very thick leather moc toe solid sole....i like the look of the white brand red wings last me a couple of years maybe seems like thorogoods are better but run narrow....

My Wolverine I-90 Durashocks with super feet inserts are the best work boots I’ve ever had. Upgraded from the Timberland Pit Bosses and ever looked back. Might consider Red Wings in a few years once my Wolverines kick the bucket.

I think you should do a cheap/budget boot series. Ive been on a fairly tight budget due to covid issues, and recently bought a pair of Brazos Rio wedge moc boots at Academy sports for $60. Tag says they come from Guatemala. I havent worn the high end boots, but i wear Redback steel toes daily for work. These are right up there with the Redbacks in comfort, at 1/4 the cost. Just a thought!

I'd like to see some coverage on some UL or CSA safety boots that are out there. Red Wings makes one but I'd like to see dissection of some others. One local store carries about 40 different ones, and after wearing out 15 pairs I know some don't hold up, especially to the elements of outdoor work

If I were in the market for a moc toe, this would be a really hard choice. It's a bit of a toss up between the Red Wings and White's Perry. If I were buying a boot today, I would probably go with the White's based on their reputation, which leads me to believe it'll be a durable boot over time, and the price. You can go buy them for 216 dollars right now vs 280 dollars for the Red Wings. We just don't know how well the White's will hold up but I just have to assume they'll live up to their name.

Love my Redwing, wear them at work everyday. Only get 6months out of them before they need to be replaced but thats normal for me. The thoroughgoods are very good boots but for some reason they make my knees and hip hurt so back to Redwings for me. Only wish the 9inch wingshooter safety toe were available in defined heel. The wedge sole is OK but I can't wear them everywhere I work

I really want to see what the boots are like after they've been worn every day for a year by a farmer. After they've been alternately wet and dry, soaked in pig shit, lime, fertilizer, gasoline, diesel, hydraulic fluid, swamp water, clay muck, frozen, dried by a fire, soaked with sweat in the hundred degree summer heat and brought in to the air conditioner to dry, day after day.

Going with the whites myself. I had a pair of original Thursdays from their kickstarter, but I was not impressed at all, maybe they've gotten better though. Ive known whites/nicks for a while now but never needed a hard logger and preferred the service boot from viberg or my aldens over their more casual lines. I guess the perry is the perfect time to try some whites.

Personally the Thorogoods already look the best to me. Then with every other brand in comparison construction/price range wise the inclusion of synthetics didn’t seem to turn me off. I really wanted to root for Thursday but I think they actually warped the look to far from the rugged/slightly clunky aesthetic. I loved this series and hope to check out a pair of Thorogoods in person to see if they suit me. Keep it up man, you’re one of my favorite channels now.

Have both Redwing and Thorogoods. I personally like the Thorogoods more. They seem to be made better for working and breaking them in is MUCH easier. Redwings are overrated in my opinion. Maybe the Iron rangers are better...

If you want your feet and back to hurt go with the redwings. The soles wear complete flat within 8 months. I trashed them because they were the worst Ive ever owned.
