i’m also 30 and I joke that I retired (stopped skating completely around 20) but i’ve been thinking about it more and more lately as I think it would help with balance issues a lot. also, i’m a woman, so i’m a bit biased - but I bought the first volume of a manga series called Sketchy about a woman who’s in her 30’s getting into skateboarding for the first time. pretty cool and inspiring. they also showcase a lot of older female skaters from japan through the book too. made me realize it’s never truly “too late”, even if we can’t exactly hit the marks we did when we were younger, it’s no reason to give up completely.

Sole Tech was sold to a snowboarding brand a few months back. Lakai is still around. Fallen relaunched a couple years back. Ipath announced their team and three shoes recently. I’ve read the big corporate brands are paying out roughly the same for a colorway compared to the core brands’ pro models.

Solid takes! I do think the lack of sole / cushion shouldn't be listed as such a negative without more context though. Everything in skateboarding is a battle of opposites...thicker sole = less control, less board feel, less stability (easer to roll your ankle)...etc. In these ways...a thinner shoe could be seen as more premium and higher performing. Of course your take of prioritizing impact protection is completely valid as well, and that's the beauty of skateboarding. 🙌

Woah shout out Moreporks from the home country, but also I'm gonna throw my bit of positive experince in with last resorts. I've skated 3 pairs of canvas VM003's, and they go good. I've always liked minimalist shoe designs, but could never run a vans authentic because they just look a bit wussy to me. The canvas VM003 feel a lot like the Vans style 38, which they've kinda stopped making, so I'm happy to have found this brand. I wish them the best, gonna support them as long as I like skating them. btw I've only ever bought them on sale for around $50-$60 USD, the local skate shop had them on sale cos they said no one wanted them.
@256k_Ай бұрын
Just picked up my first ever pair of Last Resort VM003 highs and they feel great. most likely will not skate them becuase i had to go one half size up coz the shop didn't have my size but i'm a big believer in supporting the small scale companies and to do so we have to pay extra for not as quality products sadly. Nike and adidas and NB and all those mega conglomorate companies can manage making super cheap shoes and i bet ya their profit margins are way higher than last resort! im glad they exist and i'll try to keep supporting them

These are the best skate shoes out there. Made by skateboarders, for skateboarding. Everything the was mentioned as if it was a negative quality are actually their assets. Soft, flexible, grippy, thin sole etc etc. Sure, I'm not pro, I don't jump down huge sets of stairs or do handrails, but as someone in their 40s, who has been skating for my whole life, I don't want to skate any other shoes.

i had some etnies screw mid vulcs i really liked and skated to death, actually have another pair still new in box. i could feel the sole through the lasting material and insole so i cut a cardboard insert and doubled the insoles. i got both on sale for under $50 total. they're kinda like an etnies take on a half cab, less substantial but more comfortable new. i'm not opposed to modifying my shoes to make them more comfortable and last/skate longer. i pretreat the stitches in high-wear areas with glue, and rebuild/reinforce worn through soles with bike tire tubes and shoe goo

Love the skate shoe videos! It would be great to see older , really tech, bulky shoes (Globe Chet Thomas, DC Lynx/Legacy, etc), compared to the modern re-releases.
@ianturnbow7011Ай бұрын
I felt conflicted when the brand first launched because of how thin and floppy they were. They have a couple other vulc models out: the VM002 and VM003, basically LRAB’s version of the Old Skool and Chuck Taylor. Updating the insoles was a necessary change. I haven’t tried out their shoes. The cupsole (CM001) and Mango’s pro model seem cheap. I’ve heard the shoes skate like a hybrid of Vans Classics and the Chuck Taylor.

To preface; I’m not good at skating. That said, I’ve been buying skate shoes and using them (about) as intended for 20 years and the things I look for are versatility, low weight, low profile, and low odor. So far my favorite are (were?) adidas canvas Seelys. Etnies has a synthetic analogue that I switched to called the Jameson 2 eco. I still like the adidas most, but am getting good mileage from both, and only buy on sale. I think you guys mentioned something about how quickly an active skater will wear through ANY shoe pretty quickly, and it’s sort of the whole thing. Make em comfy, sturdy, and simple.. don’t worry about the perception that comes along with suede or leather. I had a pair of vans high tops made of suede years ago and they got HEAVY fast when I was skating in the summer. They also stretched out before I could burn through them. I really hope you guys keep looking at skate shoes, and keep in mind intended purpose. So far, for me, the Seelys and the Etnies are totally worth the 65 or so bucks, will last over a year as a daily walking shoe, and stay comfortable for that duration. Leather is a fantastic material, but I think it’s important to keep in mind that it isn’t always suited to every purpose. Thanks for what you guys do, keep it up.

love it. please keep doing the skate shoes. I actually consider doing this type of video for my own channel mostly because you guys weren't! I would also like to know what you guys think of hours is yours since it's another skate shoe brand touting superior quality that I have a hard time seeing in the end product. Jamie Thomas has a new brand coming where he leans heavily into that premium verbiage. I wanna know from outsider perspective as well. Jamies shoes look sick. similar to last resort and I know he's very hyped on the amount of thought and intention he's put into the development of his brand. thanks for doing the skate shoes! our new batch of last resort Moc toe shoes are coming in soon.....

I think a lot of non-skaters probably don’t understand how the sale aisle works at a bigger skate shop, or why it’s so important to skaters. That’s how I wore some Last Resort AB from their first release. Those did not have removable insoles and fit like slippers. Similarly to these, skating them was not great. Lately, I’ve been wearing both of the New Balance Tiago Lemos models and they’re both very tight-on-foot, but also probably the most advanced and durable skate shoes I’ve ever worn. Would love to see the 808 or 1010 cut in half.

I had a pair and they were possibly my favourite ever. Mine were canvas though.

I got these back on their first US release and as much as I loved the shoe, the outsole wore out way too quick. The rest of the shoe held up just fine but couldnt even skate them after a couple months because the sole was so thin. Never had a pair of shoes wear out that fast. Even with vans I can get about 3-4 months out of em.

$95 isn’t bad. Once they hit discounters and eBay they’ll be more reasonable. Provided they produce the numbers necessary to outperform demand. Paying retail for almost anything is madness. But you guys keep it up or I won’t have the leftovers for dirt cheap!

Actually surprised you didnt bring the fact that the tread is made so you dont get stones stuck in the bottom of your shoes

I’ve skated about 5 pairs now, mostly the vm003 high in canvas. They’re super sick all around! Excellent board feel while still feeling some cushion from the new insole, and they hold up just fine. I usually wear out the sole before anything else fails. Probably go through a pair every 3 months or so. They’re so clean and steezy… I wanna skate the loafer, but it’s always sold out! Sure, $95, but whatever, I’ll pay it for a shoe I’m stoked on. Fuck the big four!
