The question is how do you justify paying for child labor of the boots you wear. But seriously, if they are as comfy as people say abs they lay as long as people say the the math is easy. Normal good boots $180+. Buy a pair per year or more. Nicks $500 and they last 10 with resoles every other year. So what's that? 150x5+500=1250. So it's 1250 vs 1800. If they last as long as people say. Worth the gamble for me. I'll let you know in ten years. Then come on Wednesday.

I‘ve got one gripe with these. Stitch down in this price category is a bad idea with a soft wedge sole. Every time the boots get resoled the edges get sanded - and with a stitch down there is only so much material to sand away until the upper is ruined. Long lasting soles like the super heavy duty Vibram lug sole they normally use are a much better choice.
@patrickli90773 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is my main issue with stitchdown too. However, Nicks offers a rebuild(not just resole) service where they replace the entire vamp and counter leather using the exact same leather as the original on the same last. This means that essentially you can replace the "welt" on one of these boots if it is ground down too much.

Why when danner uses stitch down construction it’s a demerit but when nicks does it, the boot is perfect and solves all problems?
@ThomasSteed3 жыл бұрын
The amount of material left on the welt most likely. The danners probably don't have as much leather left past the stitching.

well, danner isn't paying are they? /s (or maybe not, i havent decided yet) or maybe it has to do with the leather liner adding water resistance, which was the negative with stitch down, and he just forgot to mention it.

It's to do with the leather. Nick's are just better quality than danner. The danner mocs are some of the thinnest moc toes he's cut apart. Nick's are stitching down into about 7mm of highest graded leather. The danners can't compete with that kind of construction.

Serious question: All the Nicks boots you've reviewed have a long 'break in' period (especially these Moc-Toe boots). Surely it can't be good for your feet to be in agony for 200 hours of wear time before they fit correctly?
@DieselSniffer35003 жыл бұрын

If you follow the break in instructions they arent agony at all
@matthewsbernier3 жыл бұрын
So, the thing with custom boots is, they fit immediately. Unlike with production boots, where the break-in is partially about the leather stretching and molding to fit your toes and heel, those areas fit great out of the box in custom boots. What they lack is flexibility. They don't yet bend where you bend, and it takes awhile for that to happen. The ankles do need to form, too, and the folded tongues need to flatten out. But, if you stood still in them all day, they'd feel amazing. They just wouldn't break in. Movement does that.

Ur review was spot on and I just took possession of my this exact boot only I went 8inch. W/O a doubt the best moc I've ever seen or tried, bar non!!! Best decision I've made to cough up on these...bordering on spiritual when I opened the box. Byw I can't say enough about how great nivjs customer service was,I heard they may have had issues in past but id say they've resolved that. Above and beyond helpful.

I’m in the process of breaking in some 875’s and judging by how tough these are to break in, I couldn’t imagine the agony of a 200 hour commitment. That’s longer than I dated most girls back in my teenage years, lol! They may have more leather but I think the 875’s are a better looking shoe and for casual wear plenty tough enough!

I'm puzzled as to why Nick's thinks the 2021 is harder wearing than the Christy. Vibram bills the 2021 as a "casual" sole whereas they describe the Christy as a work sole.

I dislike the 2021. They wear out fast.

These look sick, great video. Im really glad they got you the boot by the end of moctober. Any idea if the sole construction of these is the same as the Wedge Worker? Ive got my eye on the Tan Roughout ones for some years down the road when i can spend $470 on excellent boots.

I’m not a fan of the look of this boot. I prefer the wedge bottoms to be flat against ground but nicks boots always have that high arch look. Great quality though.
@dominick3583 жыл бұрын
Yea I don’t like that look I don’t want to wear heels or look taller… plus having an elevated heel is bad for your calves long term.

Please, two questions: 1. Do these have a wider or more narrow toe box compared to Whites Perry's? 2. Are these Nik's more comfortable than Whites Perry after a while or not necessarily?

I’m not hating on Nicks, but I submitted my fit-sheet January 19th and they still haven’t arrived. So be prepared for a wait!

I rather have them take their time to keep the quality up then start rushing and receive a boot of compromises IMO.

Have you been in contact with them at all? Their website still lists like 6 to 12 week lead times, not 10 months...
@jackjmaheriii3 жыл бұрын
@@ImDudePlayinADude I have. The first set cam after 6 months which was only a bit after the lead time they predicted. BUT they built the boot on the wrong size last. They are fixing it for free but now the leather is back ordered. Which is understandable but it’s still frustrating.
@ImDudePlayinADude3 жыл бұрын
@@jackjmaheriii Ok, thats a different circumstance then. not ideal, but not as crazy as i had thought, waiting 10 months and not getting a pair.

I've never totally understood the love for Moc-toes.... Sometimes I think it has to do with allowing a taller more squared toe box for toe room, but these Nick's don't have that. So it is really just an extra stitch? Which makes it ornamental? Or does that stitch help keep toe box structure without celastic? I also wonder if it is often more the comfortable sole they are generally attrached to more so than the actual Moc-toe? One thing I definitely understand about it is that it was an easy design to make long ago so it was a logical evolution for the Indians to come to & stick with. I have definitely really liked my moc-toe boat shoes over the years. If it is a looks thing I just don't personally like the look.

I agree. My two pair of Redwing moctoes have been stunning. They’ll last a lifetime. I’ll blow Nicks/Whites money on the boots that Redwing doesn’t make.

If you are making a footwear that has a 200 hour "break in period" you are doing it wrong.
@ligitmuffin6 ай бұрын
Its sucks people think this. You really have no idea what you are missing with these types of boots. Ive had a pair of nicks for over 4 years and they will last so much longer then that. 200 hours really is nothing if you live in boots like I do. There really is nothing like them.

You never mention the eyelets on any boots. These look extra durable. I’ve had an eyelet or two pop loose and I often bend the speed lace hooks coming down on extension ladders. When they get bent it becomes dangerous and they get weaker every time you bend them back.

Great video. Love my Nicks Falcons. Yes, it takes time to break them in. Then they fit your feet as opposed to a generic foot. These moc toe boots look great. The toe looks reminiscent of the Alden Indy. Great that they come in foam or lug soles.

I wish my current boots weren't so far from end of life so I could justify getting these. I bought the Whites moc toe last Dec and they are still like new. They probably have another couple of months before they even need to be resoled for the first time. I have an old pair of waterproof Thorogoods as my backup that have at least one resole left in them (4th) before they are dead, but they will need the welt replaced.

Very good video, thanks you ! I think you need to do some researches about Yuketen and their true mocassin-construction boots. Very nice boots, very good materials. Maybe the best in the world is doing by them. Please keep going to do videos as you do. Thanks you !

Fantastic video. Yes $500.00 plus boots are high but think about the quality and craftsmanship you get. Nick's has some great videos of their process and once you see all the hands that touch these boots you get a different prospective of the quality your buying. Me personally I don't put a price on my feet, remember you get what you pay for. Awsome job Nick's.

I’m reference to the soles wedge vs heavy lug. I always found I would BURN through the redwing lugs soles like no tomorrow probably 4-5 months and there’s absolutely no tread left but the MAXwear wedge on my thorogoods usually last almost a full year till they start becoming ice skates. Maybe that’s just me I don’t know.
