2mm - 2.2mm thick leather on every piece of this bag, I didn’t realize until the video posted that I accidentally removed love that part (There was over an hour of Stridewise and myself talking back and forth ha ha) But I was really surprised by the thickness of the leather because that’s as thick as most boot leather. I’m really interested to hear what you guys think and if you think it’s worth it or not. I think the bag is just fantastic for the money. Yeah, it still is a bit expensive for some of us, but the quality of that bag is just amazing. Amd yeah, like you said you can nitpick some of the stuff to your liking, but not because of poor quality. So I think this bag is great, even though I'm not much of a briefcase guy. I've owned this bag for about a year, and so far the quality is awesome! Holds up great, easy to clean. Kindof wish I would have gotten a bit larger bag to more easily fit water bottle, etc, but the craftsmanship and durability is 100% on-point. For a smallish slim briefcase, this is tops.

I've had it for a year now. The dark chocolate brown color. A fantastic bag, on par with Hermes, Prada , Gucci or LV, for a fraction of the price. It has real presence. People are staring at it with awh and are not sure why the brand does not ring a bell. This is, in my view, for people that like maximum quality without the 'show off' and without selling their kidney to pay for it.

For the people commenting about the nylon lining. I have used this bag as a daily driver for work since 2017 when it first launched and when you chuck a laptop in there, some paperwork, some random tech, maybe a powerbank and whatnot, it gets awfully heavy. I would NOT want even more weight. I also have the bigger brother Palissy 25h and that one gets too heavy, even if you don't fill it up. Which is why I only used it a handful of times and now it is collecting dust.

Also, "Genuine leather" varies a shit ton in quality and if you search for high, top or full grain sometimes its just fake. I could go on for days on this subject and different brands.

I just checked their website, the dress shoes is resoleable, some of them are full-grain leather,the ones with heel do have shank and their sole if from some well-known brands. Yeah, you can tell the fella complaining about the lining not being leather is completely new to briefcases. Leather lining - even a quality one - does bleed if you keep things that tend to be moist (e.g. a water bottle, even well-sealed) in your bag, if your hands, going in and out of the bag, are prone to sweating a lot... Maybe leather lining is good for wallets, but when it comes to briefcases/bags, it’s safer (and lighter) to go with the nylon lining. A 100% full-grain leather bag (especially the double Plissy that CF sells) would be way too heavy and burdensome for a man who actually walks with it. They have to be functional, not just be statement pieces. Not to mention that a leather lining is INCREDIBLY difficult to clean; a canvas lining, in turn, absorbs any ink or fluid coming from a pen or whatever you keep in your bag, thus damaging the outer leather. Nylon, on the other hand, keeps the leather well insulated, is lighter and much easier to clean.

7:55 Tokonole/gum also cracks, and not after 2 years. On items like wallets tokonole won't even last a couple months. Plus paint can be easily reapplied cause the edge is preserved. You won't be able to do much with edge finished with tokonole which started to worn apart.
@WasabiSoySauce3 жыл бұрын
So you’d say the edges on this product are fine and can be easily fixed down the road? I’m thinking about getting one.
@MikeHaggarKJ4 жыл бұрын
I hate edge paint. It always cracks over time. Rolled edges are what bags in this prize range should have. And once you've had a bag with rolled edges, everything else looks cheap in comparison.
@Stevieboy74 жыл бұрын
Rolled edges are much worse than edge paint. At least with edge paint you can re-paint it, once a rolled edge starts to wear through (as it's super thin to roll nicely) you're pretty much screwed. Burnished edges are best all around, easily touched up and get better with time.
@MikeHaggarKJ4 жыл бұрын
@@Stevieboy7 No you don't, I have leather goods where I can see it's not that thin. And has lasted me for years. And in all my years working in a thrift store, I haven't seen a single belt with properly rolled edges that is worn out at the edge, even when the holes are completely shot and they're obviously very old. Same for bags. It's also common in high end dress shoes (brits seem to be most fond off it) and you can an endless supply of people with 5-10 year old C&Js etc where it hasnt been a problem. For edge paint I can confidently seen the opposite: I have never seen an old bag or belt with edge paint where it hasn't cracked. And once it's cracked it's not easy to fill it in without causing lumps. You'd have to cut off the edge in many cases.
@Stevieboy74 жыл бұрын
@@MikeHaggarKJ I’ve been doing custom leatherwork and repairs for about 10 years now, trust me. You do have to thin the leather to roll it, it’s called skiving. Thick stiff leather doesn’t bend. And most of the repairs I’ve seen are rolled edges, and those are always better thrown out as you can’t really repair it without rebuilding the whole thing. High end dress shoes do this as they’re working mostly with chrometanned leather (can’t burnish) and the wear areas on a shoe are tiny (only around the toe and bottom of the shoe, none of those seams get any wear. A bag is very different. Edge paint is plastic, it dries and cracks and deforms after about 15-20 years, there is nothing you can do about it. I’ve never seen a used item older than the 90s with intact paint. With paint you can cut it off, or sand it off to get to the base leather and then repaint. I’ve done it on a few dozen vintage Louis Vuitton handbags I’ve repaired.
@MikeHaggarKJ4 жыл бұрын
@@Stevieboy7 I'll buy that it's easier for you to repair if you throw your item around and abuse it, but for normal use I consider it superior. I obviously the leather is skived, I am not blind. It's a question off how much you skive it. Edge paint cracks much faster than that if there is any flex in the area in my experience.
@Stevieboy74 жыл бұрын
@@MikeHaggarKJ You sure give a lot of "knowledge" considering you've never actually done any of these processes. Working in a thrift store doesn't make you an expert in leather goods by any means. Taking an educated guess that this could be a 'corrected grain' hide. Its much cheaper than top grain and given that price it seems to make sense to me. Love the video!

I really like this bag, seems to have a decent price. Any plans to review Marland leather? I have one and its holding up very well.

Cutting things apart besides leather boots? That’s a pretty cool twist on the formula. Muck? Lacrosse? I hope he tries cutting apart some winter boots next!

As a leather worker I can maybe ad my humble contribute about the lining. Good quality lining leather is very expressive, generally even more expensive than "regular" leather. Its also heavier than fabric and not very resistant to scratching, it's also more difficult to work with so it requires more skilled worker. But we can all agree that a nice lining leather is absolutely gorgeous so if the budget is not a concern leather is the best way to go. IMO the use of nylon fabric is justified if we consider the price, 600$ is a lot but not that much for a leather bag. They are also other things that can be improve like the attachment of the handles (the folded part can be sewn to the triangle instead of inside out), or by using solide pleated brass but that would make the bag way more expensive for something that 95% of the peoples won't notice.

Would like to see the corcoran original jump boot and tanker boot cut open. Also cutting open more redwing boots like their loggers would be great. Great channel!

I think lining choice would depend on if you are looking for a bag to keep for a really long time or just a nice piece to use for awhile. If I was looking for really long term use to possibly hand down one day I would prefer leather lining. If this was just one of many that I used as the mood struck then I think nylon is fine especially since it's lighter and more easily cleaned. Only downfall I see in nylon is that it's plastic and if you're plastic adverse then canvas would be a better choice. Overall I think it's just a choice like the upholstery in your car and doesn't really diminish the value very much.

I've had one for a couple of years in blue. Wish it was a bit longer though as it doesn't hold my work laptop

Agreed, can’t fit a 15” laptop which is pretty disappointing

Nice looking bag on the outside. I do see the benefit of the non leather interior, but a leather lining would look amazing.
