Did this one last year, it wasn't too bad as it's so short.. but it's still pretty bad.

I completely agree; I first did this on a sportive some years ago and was so disappointed with how easy it was compared to, say, Hardknott Pass in the Lakes. Blakey Bank, on the other hand, very much lives up to its reputation… 😉

Do you stand or sit on Climbs? I'm deciding on which I should be doing, and when?

My tendency is to ride seated, particularly for the videos as it makes the camera view steadier. That said, it is my natural tendency too and I think it’s because I used to row when I was younger and that gave me a reasonably strong back. I do stand up on climbs, though, mainly when my legs are tired and I’m struggling to put out the power, or if I just need to shift my weight around a bit after sitting in the same position for a while on a longer ascent. In terms of what to do and when, it’s very individual and there’s no single ‘best’ solution. I know people in the Club who will stand at the slightest whiff of a hill right through to riders like me who tend to try and diesel their way up in the saddle. The best advice I can offer is to do what feels natural - if you feel you want to sit down, then stay seated, but if you feel you want to stand then go for it. Your body is pretty good at deciding the best position for you, so just roll with it ... it’s what I do when I’m just riding for myself...

@@WheelygoodCycling Many thanks, great advice, I appreciate the detailed reply...I usually remain seated. I'm learning a lot off your videos...been watching some other peoples too, and yours stand out for quality and steadiness 👍 👍

Thank you so much - you’re very kind and it’s much appreciated! I think the thing I’d say is that, to improve, take things at your own pace. There’s a lot of information out there on the Internet and not all of it is aimed at all levels of rider. One video that I rather like is a TeD Talk on training which I’ve linked below. It turned out, purely by coincidence, that I’d been using this methodology for years without really knowing it. Back in the day, I’d been advised by a coach and the 80-20 rule was really working for me, so I kept at it, sometimes in the face of the ‘advice’ being given by other member of my Club who kept telling me I could do it better. It’s worth a watch, if only as something to think about... kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3KvpHxmoq9jb6s

@@WheelygoodCycling Thanks I'll give this a watch. Just watched a few other videos of women flying up some of these banks, surprising how fast some of them get up them...maybe because they are lighter, they would put me to shame thats for sure ha!

you don't get a choice on rosedale chimney. The general thinking is to stay seated as much as you can.. sometimes you can't.
