Awesome to find this delightful Clooney/Riddle TV special! Had NO idea this existed, I've treasured this CD for many years. This was from when popular music was really really good.

Nelson Riddle - Incredible! I love that he is featured here - his impact on music scoring in so many genres can never be appreciated enough - his sound is absolutely unmistakable without ever sounding repetitive- and considering his production that is a remarkable feat!

He was a genius. I wish there was more about him, but I am sure those who understand music theory can divulge more into him by analyzing the habits in his music. He loved classical composers, but he learned to step back and just be a strict accompanyist for Sinatra, and did it greatly imo for such a limited position. Shame he drank his liver away. That's what I assume he did cuz he died of cirrhosis of the liver.

Beautiful love story: Nelson Riddle y Rosemary Clooney. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fantastic music came out of their affair. But still questionable, Clooney going out with a married man even if she was divorced by this time. Riddle kept married after the affair for many years to Naomi Tenenholtz. But who knows, maybe it was an open romantic relationship lol with the other party doing it too. That's their business I guess.

She and Riddle were carrying on a passionate affair at the time this was recorded.

Yes, in her first autobiography she didn't mention the name of that "famous musician", but in her later years did and said he was the love of her life, despite his reuniting with his wife.

See, ar one time actual people played what were called musical instruments and real people could sing music.

Everything is a musical instrument. It is just how you manipulate it to make the sounds you want. I think older instruments required more talent to play. Just a different generation. I am sure people protested at ragtime music (1910s) and then jazz (1920s).

Is that Conrad Gozzo on trumpet?
@pauledie8823 жыл бұрын
No. By 1961, Riddle and Gozzo had quit working together for the most part. Goz was an absolutely awesome musician, but his drinking and constant begging for money to cover gambling debts had gotten on the nerves of a lot of conductors and directors in Hollywood. Riddle was one of them. By one account, Goz owned Nelson over $25,000.00 in 'loans' that everyone knew would never be repaid. By the early 1960's, much of Gozzo's professional playing became limited to television show orchestras and the occasional 'on-call' studio gig. He had become a hard-core alcoholic by that time. It is interesting to see him sitting in the orchestra pit of the Dinah Shore show, where he was working regularly, appearing mostly inebriated. He had also become very overweight then.
