Use your, "sibling tether"! (It is a thing & you more than certainly, ARE beyond capable & able to do this, yourself/yourselves!) In fact, the MORE you "utilize your tether", the stronger it gets & the more "flawlessly connected" you become! ["Utilizing a phone"/"text messages", is a way to- "test" those "innate, Inner-inklings".] Utilize the "tech", you have- [IF you believe you need to, to get a better comprehension of how this really works] ..which, in fact, BioPhysiologically speaking & ElectroMagnetically speaking, is an easier way to "visually learn" how this works. This same exact, "tethering experiment", is something that brought me and my younger sister together after a long haul of her, attempting to "blame me" for "leaving her behind", when I left a toxic home. By simply by asking her if she would, "participate in an experiment to prove 'science'- WRONG" [I'll admit, I used MY knowing that subject was her favorite subject & she would take "pride", in attempting to prove me wrong & I used this] and when she saw & felt it for herself, through our interactions throughout the following weeks after "utilizing tech", to give her a better understanding of this.. Elderberry grows by our garden, too. I like to see the birds that come into it to feed on its nourishing berries. When I harvest elderberries I always leave the ones on the highest branches for the birds.

love it! My grandma (I grew up in Ukraine) would make jam and Elder berry liquor (smash berries with sugar and let ferment). Interestingly, she would give us, kids, the jam if we had constipation.

From the heart I want you to take my witness. 2 years ago in winter, I started studying/watching mushroom foraging videos in preparation for spring morels & medicinal species. That spring my mossy/oaky back yard had a literal eruption in chanterelles! Light golden ornaments all over it! I've lived here for 18 years and never seen the likes. But because I wanted to seek...the Earth mother responded is my only explanation. This year just a couple of weeks ago I was thinking about a strange/curious plant known as 'Indian Pipe' or 'Ghost Pipe' I'd read about in my foraging studies. So I go out to a friend's house a week later to work on her truck...I take a walk down a shaded lane...and...find 3 pinkish Ghost Pipes 3 feet apart from each other! God is great! I'm not going to harvest them. Why were they there for me to see?

Strangely enough, I've found that to be true, about plants showing up from us thinking about them. Last year when I was away from my garden for the summer the heat wave killed my herb and vegetable garden, and I was very sad about that because I didn't get to even harvest any seeds for the next year. I was thinking about and missing some of the plants that had died (the only thing that came back on its own was the thyme and the bee's balm, and once I gave them some love they florished into huge bushes). Specifically, I remember distinctly thinking about the sweet basil and wishing I had some to plant this year and for some reason a few days later a tiny basil sprout started coming up in one of the empty herb containers. Strange thing is, I don't even think it was originally used for basil, but I guess a seed must have gotten into it. The other strange thing is, this occured very late in the season, late to have seeds sprout for the summer. Spring sprouts had already long come, and the basil ONLY sprouted once I started thinking about it and wishing it was there so I could cook with it. Really bizarre, but I was super happy and started watering and caring for it, and its now a healthy plant!

I happened upon this video in searching for trees & scrubs that I can plant that will both feed wildlife & that I can benefit from. Of course, elderberries came to mind. I make elderflower and calendula tea, just steep the dried flowers in boiling water, it's so delicious and calming. I'm sure it helped me reduce my irritating Covid cough recently too. I love your videos 💗

Hi Julianne, the berries of the red elder can be used for herbal syrups just like other types of elder berries. Most elder berries contain some level of stomach-irritating compounds, and while red elder berries tend to have a higher concentration of these irritants than others, they will be neutralized when cooked, as you would necessarily do to create syrup. Some folks find the red elder berries don't have the best flavor, but they are still just fine for your herbal remedies. Hope this helps!

These are supposed to grow in the Pacific Northwest, but I try to look for them as I am out and about but I don’t recall ever seeing one. They definitely grow in north central Texas and south east Oklahoma. We mad jelly from them but did not know they had all the benefits. They have no natural pectin so The jelly was not always very firm. Now I buy syrup at the store for cold and virus prevention, and it is very expensive. But it is very effective too.

Hi I have a question for you.I collected some of this product from the tree.then I put the syrup in two bottles of jars.I put one of the bottle in the fridge.Then I finished by drinking every day with the regular spoon in the refrigerator.but the one outside the refrigerator is worn out because of the hot weather.I tasted a groin or two from this sour one.my question to you is, would it be a problem if I drink a few spoons of this rancid outside the refrigerator every day!

Thank you so much for the lovely information I have had some trouble drying my elderberries and set them on trays on wax paper in the sun and that did not work I tried a very low oven and that did not work. I also have it the hydrator but not sure if maybe I'm doing something wrong? Please let me know the best way to dry the elderberries for storing.

Before drying elderberries, make sure they're nice and clean since lots of stuff you don't want can stick to the berries. Soaking them in a cool water, and then straining through a colander works fine. Then, spread evenly on a tray, they should dry within a few days, depending on your climate. After three days or so, squeeze them to see if they are still plump or juicy, and then let them go another day or two. If you're drying in the sun, especially outdoors, make sure to cover them with a screen or thin cloth so the birds don't steal everything!

Animals are pretty clever when it comes to herbs. Their senses are so much keener than ours and often they can sense if a plant is right for them or their illness. I am not sure if cats can eat elderberry but if it is beneficial to them and you plant one on your property they may come to eat it on their own. I'm sorry about your stray cats :( we had a little stray kitten in our neighborhood with a bad sinus infection that had gone to his eye. We tried to catch him to at least put something on it but he was feral and scared and we couldn't get him. It really is heartbreaking.

Hey Colleen! Elder leaves are not recommended for internal use as they do have some compounds that can cause stomach upset.

Have you tried other alternatives for sweeteners? Stevia powder, maple syrup, molasses, coconut sugar? So long as it tastes good to you, anything is possible!

I used to pick elderberries with my dad. He made wine and pie, and I made pie. Last year a friend came over w berries and as we were cleaning them, the smell was off, like they were a bit rotten, tho the berries felt fresh. Then we noticed the little worms in them... Is there a way to keep worms off the berries while they are growing on the bushes?

With most fruits, harvesting as soon as ripening occurs will prevent the worms from having time to establish themselves. You could also try spraying the bushes with a diluted white vinegar spray shortly before ripening to slow the encroachment of pests, but you'll want to wash the berries carefully after harvesting to avoid off flavors. ~Jana

I have the Black Elder and some green Elder Trees in my yard. However, I was told, and read online also, that they are poisonous unless cooked first. You seem to be saying that they can be eaten fresh from the tree, so I'm a little confused... Which is true?

This is a great question, Lauren! Eating raw elder berries straight off the of tree has been known to cause stomach upset. Rosemary is talking mostly about making syrup. When making the syrup, you have to heat up the elder berries and is no longer a raw berry. I hope that helps to clear that up any confusion for you!
