Yes of course I can imagine someone at any level making a fool of themselves but is it not also a very delicate balance of showing off, holding back and letting others breath.What I love is the different personalities coming through. Christian's painful grimmacing contrasting Rosenberg's wonderful relaxation! It is only natural that ego drives ambition to be the best. These guys and many others put in awesome practice to be the best and they know they are the very best and we know they are!

I think it's an artistic choice too!!.. first time i've watching this video i've listen a percussion sound.. but no musician playing it... in fact i think it's bireli who is playing percussion with his muted string.. PS: i love all solos guitar in this song!!!

@WoodomainJeremyBroun12 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely right - it is a mature balance of showing off and backing off and allowing the space without crowding the tune and these musicians do show respect. They are all world class players and if you want to nit pick about whether Christian is of the calibre of Birelli, I have played this gorgeous video many many times (for enjoyment and to play along to) and can see and hear some missed notes by Birelli - but so what - thats the electricity of playing live!
@jackmarket9 жыл бұрын
Beautiful interpretation of the song. Three different style of guitar playing goes very well here. Birelli plays as Wes Montgomery/George Benson, Stochelo..well plays as Stochelo and I love Escoude's own style.

I was only joking about ever being able to play like Rosenberg (my personal favourite), I am obviously hugely elated/influenced listening and in particular to Summertime repeatedly by these guys, but am quite happy with the way and level I play at. It is the enjoyment that counts and my only envy is not having a gang of mates at my level to just jam with as these guys are doing. I'm not a gypsy jazz purist but blend it with latin jazz so I'd better get off this thread before I get kicked off!

@findmads lol you didnt get what i mean dude.. what i mean by "cord progression" by bireli, it's not the technique of thumb picking or octave style... what i men is that, he converted the whole scale into chords and play it like fast scale progression... and its hard, even the rosenberg trio was amazed and smiled at what bireli's doin... :)

I always wonder how Stochelo's (and other gypsy jazz player's) playing can be so clean and crisp without any right hand muting...especially amplified...can anyone shed some insight into that?
@WHERESDrManhattan14 жыл бұрын
@lhurien yes, missed the point. Listen to the phrasing at the start of Bireli's solo conjuring up Wes as a response and the antithesis of, yet sublimely complimnetary, to Stocky's start - notice the smile on Stock'ys face mid way in B's solo.
@WoodomainJeremyBroun12 жыл бұрын
Okay, I didn't ask Angelo that when I had a chat with him before he performed in my city a year or two back but surely they spark off each other? If you look at the concluding phrase Rosenberg looks at Christian (I think) they are clearly thinking - who's going to end it? I read into that 'the best guy' but I could be completely wrong. I was once told that anyone good enough to play with Django would be given a Selmer guitar on condition he didn't sell it. Isn't that competition learned young?

"the burning question of when I will ever be able play like these guys."As far as I'm concerned, correct answer is "never"; I will never be able to play like these guys...I did take the right start at the age of 21 and improved at the speed of sound with both power and speed, but I stopped practicing to take a "real job"; Since then, I re started a couple of times but never found that magic energy again...

Nice frasing, of Stochello, especially in the beginning. Was he here in his prime?
@swingmanu12 жыл бұрын
I could have asked Matelo(Ferret) when he came to see us so gently but he passed in the early nineties and I wouldn't trust his son's word. He was a guitarist, fairly well known among gypsies and the brother of Sarrane who'd actually played a lot with Django. So he would have told me if he had been given that Selmer by his brother's family and if Sarrane were given it... Anyway, I'l not likely to meet any of these guys soon.

@WoodomainJeremyBroun12 жыл бұрын
Hello, now reading your other comments you are obviously quite authoritative about gypsy jazz! I also did a bit of Googling since and on what looks like a reputable site it states that Django sold and gave away Selmer guitars! Perhaps the story I heard (from a reputable source) happened with perhaps a particular limited edition or maybe as you say, However, all this is quite irrelevant to the burning question of when I will ever be able play like these guys. Im taking pills to live till Im 200.
