I am definitely a noob at chess, but today I had a game where I sac'd the queen to win a bishop and a knight and because of this move I later had the open diagonals around the enemy king and developed rooks first as black. In the end I blundered the mate move cause I had 10 sec left on the clock. But I checked for the correct move and it was indeed a mate. Oh and also because he took my queen with his own queen across the board she got stuck in a corner and never left it afterwards. :D

Man I love Eric Rosen, I think his approach to the game is a lot of fun. For a mere mortal who is not aiming to achieve any fancy titles but play chess exclusively for fun, I find him to be the best source for discovering fun and perhaps a bit arcane ways to play chess. That is in no way to diminish his qualifications to teach serious chess for players who are attempting to become titled players. But yeah, I appreciate the hell out of him and his content.

@zacherychapman8474
@zacherychapman8474 3 жыл бұрын
You can, but after 7. ...Kd8, 8. Nxa8 Nxe5, black reclaims the gambited pawn and white's corner knight is as good as dead the moment black gets a chance to move his b pawn. possibly taken by the queen, but even better if black gets the chance to finachetetto his bishop in the process of attacking the knight, supporting the queen already on the long light sqaure diagonal. And until then, that knight isn't going anywhere. gaining the rook isn't worth the effective loss of both the bishop AND the knight.

You said bishop d2 was probably the best move, but isn't knight c3 better, because after queen captures bishop there is knight d5 with an attack on the queen and after the queen moves to e4 or smth, the knight just takes on c7 with a fork on the rook? It seems the engine also suggests this.

It’s certainly playable (indeed, I checked with Stockfish and the engine slightly prefers it), but you have to be careful. After Qa8 black has Re8, after which Qxc3 gives black mate-in-2 (17. Qxc3 Nd3+ 18. Kd1 Re1#!). This forces white to spend a move protecting the king, allowing black to save his knight.

Absolutely brilliant to watch someones mind work and how calm he stays right through out I do have one question though the early part of the game seems reliant on him pinning the knight why doesn't white play rb3 ?

You have such a monotone voice so when you say something funny like "so much icing" I fall off my chair. I died. Love your videos. Very instructional.

When white played king f2 I had the idea it would be natural for the king to want to move to g1. But there is a funny line, as Eric would say. King F2, bishop D4, King G1 will lose the queen, Rook G2 check, King H1, Rook E2 check, King G1, Rook E1.

I've played the Englund gambit but never thought the Queen Sac was playable...looks dubious in an already dubious opening
