Wonderful idea, thank you! I was thinking of also including a little note pinned to the hem “I am a reusable gift wrap, please pass me on with another present”

If you made it with linen or cotton linen you could also add to the note “or use me as a tea towel” 👍

So glad to learn this wrapping method! I've been making small fabric gift bags, which are fun, but a little tedious. This will help so much!

I have fabric bags I made years ago that I use each year for large unwrap-able presents. Since we always have Christmas at my house, everyone leaves them with me to use then next year. Trying to get rid of the wrapping paper I have, once that is done, I will use fabric always. Thanks for this series. hope you are enjoying it as much as we are!

I started wrapping all gifts in fabric several years ago as a way of teaching my kids and grands about how people did things back before modern conveniences. I usually incorporate part of the gift in the wrapping. Bath set for toddlers = bath toys, soap crayons and a washcloth wrapped in a hooded towel. Wedding gift = glass bakeware with hot pads/trivets, placemats and napkins and a cookbook wrapped a table cloth or runner. Xmas for SIL= video game or accessories, back warmer, and a fabric basket for controllers wrapped in a snuggie type wrap. I know it's a little extra work on my part but they're always much loved. Thanks for the dimensions of the fabric wrap. It will be great for the beginner sewing book and kit for my eldest grand.

I never knew it was a Japanese tradition! That is amazing. I did do this already this year but I did mine a little differently. I love this idea, though, and will give it a try. I also love to make reusable gift bags to put gifts in.

I'm planning on using fabric this year even though Christmas is still months away. But considering how stressful even the simplest sewing project is for me, and that the Christmas season itself is also stressful, I figure why not get started on the gift fabric wrapping sooner rather than later?

This wrapping technique is so exquisitely simple and sustainable! I just wrapped a birthday present this way and it looks so cute! I have also just started making your free dress pattern. Thank you so much for all your work in sharing your skills and imagination, sooooo appreciated. I love your approach and philosophy with the op shopping. This year I’m not planning on buying any new clothes, or even wrapping paper, old sheets and some fabric dye go a long way. Thanks from Slovenia 🇸🇮

Absolutely love this and I’m going to do it! ive made xmas fabric gift bags, and wrapped presents in them this yr. was originally so I could use up my fabric stash for u.k. nhs scrub bags ( which I made at least 30!) and made fabric gift bags for to put mainly my hand made gifts in! Looks lovely under the tree! Even if I do say so myself!! 🙈plus I haven’t needed to buy wrapping paper, and like you mentioned I hope they are recycled! Merry xmas and a fabric-tastic new yr.

I would love to wrap my gifts like this! But is it weird to ask the wrapping back? I'm the only one of my family/friends who are in these kind of stuff. So it would be sad to see them not used or thrown away after I made and used them. 🥺

This is beautiful! However, it saddens me to see fabric wrapping be promoted as a Japanese tradition. This is a Korean tradition. Please look up Bojagi.
