Rosetta Stone vs Busuu (Which Language App Is Better?). In this video, John from the TPI team compares the language learning courses from Busuu vs Rosetta Stone. This comparison applies to all languages, including Spanish, Italian, French, or German. John talks about what the lessons are like from each company, including the different types of drills and exercises across reading, writing, speaking, and listening. He also talks about why Rosetta Stone is better than Busuu and why Busuu is better than Rosetta Stone. For example, John likes the speech recognition technology and immersive experience from Rosetta Stone. But then he likes the grammar instruction and personalized review sessions from Busuu. There is another potential advantage for Rosetta Stone (depending on the first language of the student). Many language learning programs are made for English speakers learning a second language and if English is not your first language it can cause some confusion with translations (speaking from experience on this point :D ). Rosetta Stone can work better because you only have your target language to worry about. Thank you for the video!

That is an excellent point. I know people and have family in other countries who do not speak English and want to both learn English and other languages like Spanish, but they do not have as many resources as English speakers do. 👍

I would do the lifetime plan with rosetta stone if I wanted to learn many languages. I think the speech software makes Rosetta Stone a steal especially when trying to learn how to speak Spanish.

To be fair, Busuu is the most professional language learning app, their emphasis is grammar is solid ans i feel like its one of the few appa you can pass a language exam with, its drawback is that feedback on audios take sometime because they are listened to by native speakers before response.

One KEY distinction… I think John does his reviews based on doing these programs on a computer. I have bought and used BOTH Rosetta Stone and Busuu. I FAR prefer Busuu. One MAIN reason is, I do my language learning on my phone. It is always with me and it is very convenient. That said, I still do 1-2 hours per day, EVERY day, but always on my phone. The Rosetta Stone apps are AWFUL. It is essentially built for a full size computer screen that they have just shrunk down the size on a phone. So it is hard to see, hard to navigate, I think their photos are awful, their voice recognition software is HIGHLY problematic. There are sooooo many problems. On a laptop or computer, Rosetta Stone might be okay, but on mobile devices it is awful. Busuu isn’t perfect, but I do think it is great and it is 100% designed to be used on mobile devices OR computers. I also LOVE the Busuu community features. It is extremely unique and greatly beneficial. Over time I have made several friends in other countries that we regularly practice together and support each other. All that said, I 100% respect and appreciate John’s opinion. I’m sure some people will like Rosetta Stone, but be careful if you plan on using it on mobile devices. I love and appreciate these reviews. I bought Busuu because of a previous video by this channel. I also bought Mondly and Pimsleur because of reviews by this channel and I love ALL of them. Not to mention, I won the giveaway a couple months ago and John set me up with Rocket Languages, which is also great. I have so many great apps to use now and they all have their pros and cons. I definitely think the way to go is to use 2 or 3 different apps. I think finding the ONE perfect app is impossible. If I had to pick just one, it would be Pimsleur or Rocket. I would not recommend buying BOTH of those because they are too similar. Just like Busuu and Babbel are both good, but too similar. Pimsleur + Busuu = Great! Rocket + Babbel = Great! Pimsleur + Duolingo = Great! Rocket + Mondly = Great! Busuu + Rosetta Stone… could also be great, if you are using a laptop for Rosetta Stone, not a mobile device. Then use Busuu when you’re on your mobile device. Thanks John for another excellent review. You are really helping people find the best products and teaching about how they work. If Test Prep Insight ever launches a language learning app, I want to be the FIRST customer. 12 months ago, I knew NOTHING about any of these apps. Now, I am a borderline expert and you have been an excellent help and resource. I appreciate you 🙏 Keep up the great work. 👍

@@TestPrepInsight No problem, I always enjoy your reviews. Also, if I’m wrong on any of that, please let me know. Watching your reviews, most of the screen captures I see seem to be from a computer/laptop and not a mobile device. I’m not sure if you use both or primarily computer/laptop. Also, to be fair, the last time I used Rosetta Stone was about 6 months ago. I’m guessing if they hadn’t updated their UI in 20+ years (which appeared to be the case) they wouldn’t do it anytime soon, but if they have… that would be WONDERFUL. I bought a lifetime access plan, so I would love for them to actually do some updates to their mobile apps and UI. Meanwhile, I have now used Busuu, Mondly, Pimsleur, and Speakly every single day for 6 months straight and I recently passed 400 day streak on Duolingo 👍 I am SUPER familiar with those products. I also think revisiting Rosetta Stone now with 6 months of learning Persian under my belt might be a better experience. Rosetta Stone has the option for minimal English instructions for Spanish and some other languages, but for Persian and other more complex languages they do not. So starting from scratch it was extremely difficult to even have an idea what you are supposed to do. I’ve heard many other Rosetta Stone users with that complaint also say, with a basic foundation of a new language studied elsewhere, Rosetta Stone can be a good resource or tool, but ONLY if you already have a basic foundation. It is a shame with all their resources Rosetta Stone doesn’t update and improve their product. It is still VERY 1995. Pimsleur on the other hand is 60 years old this year! And they have done a GREAT job keeping their core training methods, but updating their interface, having great mobile apps, and modernizing their already excellent training system. I love Pimsleur ❤️ I also really love Busuu 👍
