Dont think this is correct. .300 is the NATO round , this is inches , .300 equivalent about a third of an inch. , to 7.65 mm in metric. 30 mm is 1.18 inches. Everywhere is not America , what you call .3 we call the 300 round.
@EstonianShark
@EstonianShark Жыл бұрын
@@columbmurray 30. cal is usually associated with World War 2 .30-06 (thirty aught six) ammo (it's infamous for its use during ww2 but it is much older than that). I do not know what .300 NATO round you're talking about (300 blackout?). Lindy is correct by saying "thirty cal" refers to a WW2 rifle round that is 0.3". 7.62mm is 0.3", which is what 30. cal ammo is. I do not understand why you converted 30mm to inches. people only really measure barrels by inches with extremely heavy naval calibre's (example, the Yamato; the biggest Battleship in the world had 18.1 inch cannons) You're right in saying not everywhere is America, and I'm sure Lindybeige knows that being an Englishman. Calibres have two ways you can measure them, inches or millimeters, but Calibre gets rid of the need for either. .3 is not what you call "the 300 round" as I have no recollection of a round that exists besides 300 Blackout which is not what .3 or "thirty cal" is meant to usually stand for.
@toyfischer
@toyfischer Ай бұрын
@@EstonianShark thirty aught six was developed in the year 1906. hence the aught six. not all 30 caliber ammunition is 30 aught six. i mean 308 is also a 30 caliber round. there is also 300 winchester magnum, and as you said 300 blackout however that 30 caliber round is subsonic and not really a battlefield round. it is still used for special forces and some designated marksman without huge ranges to cover and want the extra concealment that round gets you from being much more quiet than 30 caliber supersonic rounds.

You can see in this video exactly why the US and British pulled out because of the lack of blatant disregard and will to actually fight for their country by the ANA. The full episode of this is when British troops arrived the ANA had agreed to be up and ready hours prior and when the British showed up they were all still sleeping and refused to get up for another hour even though radio comms told them the taliban was surrounding them. Personally if they would have done that to me and my men, I would have been like okay, looks like you clearly got this under control now it’s time to let you go fight on your own while my men stay here and eat and sleep. Grab your balls and your guns and get going. They refuse to fight without the backup of USA or British and neither countries could stay for the rest of their existence so we all pulled out knowing exactly what would happen because they aren’t fearless people at all, they are a bunch of chickens who had balls with the backup of other countries until left on their own.

Great footage, Ross...thanks for sharing. It's so good to have your work here on YT. Very much admired your work for years! Just a heads up: 30 cal is 3/10 of an inch, or about 7.62mm. That helo was firing 30mm shells. Huge difference. Each round has about 3 times the energy of the 50cal (12.7mm) MG you saw firing.

My thoughts on the series: Ros is a good presenter in many respects, straight talking and willing to put himself into dangerous situations in order to capture the story. It does a superb job in getting to know the individual soliders and showing respect towards the British families affected by terrible grief. The fighting footage and sound is extremely intense. Ros often seems a bit baffled the war is not going better and the Taliban hadn't been beaten by now. Since the Taliban recaptured Afghanistan all the effort and losses in this series now seems totally pointless and futile but we must remember nobody knew this would happen back in 2009 and its not fair to judge the series on this fact alone. The main weakness of the series is seeing the whole thing as a big battle that will be won or lost on the battlefield, as though if the enemy recieved enough casualties that would be that. War is reduced to just being about killing bad guys. In my judgement though the series completely failed to question the wisdom of seeing it in purely military terms. The series is unable to understand the reasons driving the taliban insurgency and never for a moment seems to want to ask the difficult byt honest question of why would an Afghan feel as though he would want to side with the taliban? Just like in Vietnam the UK soliders are without the language skills to understand the culture and people of Afghanistan. They live behind barbed wire and walls in their base 90% of the time and never look in control when out on patrol. The UK was also fighting to defend a deeply corrupt Afghan government and judiciary promoting a form of education and values deeply alienating to many rural conservative Afghans. For Ros and the army though it all just seems to be about giving the enemy a bloody nose. The taliban never planned to defeat the US and British army in huge pitched battles agaisnt helicopters and modern tanks, the strategy instead was just like the Vietcong, to impose a high cost on any foreign forces in the country both financially and in terms of casualties and drain their resolve to sta with the continual bombings, ambushes, and IEDs. The taliban were often able to leave a light footprint too and blend in unlike the Brits with their massive hardware tearing up the landscape. Lastly they seem unable to recognise that the Taliban might have been seen as having a monopoly on Patriotism and nationalism over the Afgan army which fights alongside foreign occupying armies inside a country of an extremely proud and independent character. Did they think about the fact many locals might not welcome the return of forces which held their country under occupation during the days of the British Empire? Ros is no John Simpson, he seems to understand nothing of the recent history of the country and the internal and external forces that drive the war. Does he know about the ethnic and sectarian factionalism for instance? It appears not.

The Taliban are animals that have slaughtered countless innocents in cold blood. They executed an Afghan special forces unit when they surrendered and are actively hunting down government officials, not to mention the countless translators that worked with NATO forces. We've already seen the Taliban backslide on every promise they made and as a result Afghanistan is slipping into chaos. Personally I hope we never recognise the Taliban.

fun fact actually if you know the meters of the rpg when it starbursts in the air which i have found to be about 950m flight distance for an rpg-7. Using that and if you know what direction it came from possibly looking for smoke trails or by sound you could zero quickly to 900 and also be able to spot and engage within moments :)
