Bullies her into making promises deals partnership, etc. And then there's her home life where as far as this film is concerned we get one scene of momma and boyfriend watching TV asking her why she was out so late in an angry tone of voice. This film was emotionally monstrous.

This movie was so well acted!! Oona was incredible and portrait all the feelings a strong young girl would have from confusion..innocence ...fear ...bravery..jealousy.. and love. Of course a controversial disturbing topic. I enjoyed this interview because it shows how people judge people without knowing the backstory to their actions. Wrong will always be wrong and love is sometimes unexplainable.

I value drama in any form, but for me to truly appreciate it in a movie, writing can't be the only aspect that stands out. Acting has to be equally impressive, and in my opinion the performances in this movie are beyond incredible. The two leads do an exceptional job portraying troubled, broken individuals and making them believable to such a great extent. I simply can't stress that enough. Ross is remarkable as someone who's desperately trying to fill an inexpressible void in his life; and as far as the little girl is concerned, it's undeniably one of the most outstanding dramatic performances from a child I've ever seen. You just feel her disappointment with family and how her life is shaping up. I understand the movie can be hard to watch (especially for a parent) since the premise is rather disturbing, but I personally chose to look past the controversy as I concluded there has to more to it than just shock value. It didn't take long for me to realise that "Lamb" is indeed more than meets the eye. I find it disheartening that in spite of all the layers the story contains, the one that's easiest to discern seems to be the basis the movie is evaluated on. Then again, it appears that the "Lamb" itself encourages an unfavorable interpretation by including strange interactions between the two main characters. The prime example being the coffee scene, which I didn't know how to approach for quite some time, and, truth be told, I wasn't able to make anything out of it until I came across an interview with the actor playing one of the protagonists (Indie Outlook, "Ross Partridge on Lamb"). The interview doesn't really explain the meaning behind the scene or why it's necessary, but reading how difficult it was for the people involved to film that part, and how much of a risk they considered it to be, certainly makes me see it in a different light now. The problem is that not everyone will go out of their way and do the same research. It shouldn't be required anyway. I just wish the scene was more elaborate because I feel it's vastly misinterpreted. I'd even go as far as to say it's one of the primary reasons why a good number of viewers get the wrong idea of what the story is really about. I think what I'm trying to say is give the movie a chance, even if you've got mixed feelings about watching it. I did and I got a great deal out of the experience. There's just so many themes the movie touches upon that struck me. Some of them include loneliness, both lost and regrettable childhood (depending on the character), desperate pursuit of happiness, the need to be important in someone's life, but also manipulation, and child neglect (or how f*** important it is to be a good parent). Given the opportunity, I'd absolutely love to thoroughly discuss all of it as well as everything else I believe the movie stands for, but I digress. I never expected Lamb would become one of the few movies I keep thinking about long after watching them, but it's just so well-made and memorable. What makes me appreciate it so highly is its inspiring cinematography, emotional music and, above all, well-written dialogue and quality acting. I'll always recommend stories that provide food for thought, and that's what I'm doing right now. You may be taken aback by the premise, but the whole thing is far more complex if you really consider the two characters' backgrounds and expectations. It's a very unsettling narrative, but please don't disregard it just because we happen to live in a sick and twisted world.

As Oona said, "Lamb" had many deep meanings that aren't obvious on the surface. It was a true masterpiece of modern filmmaking. I've only watched it once, but it's on my VERY short list of movies to watch at least twice.

She reminds me alot of Dakota Fanning in this interview. Definitely wise and mature beyond her age. She seems to actually understand what they are talking about, the same way little Dakota Fanning was. This movie was on the featured page on Tubi (or Pluto, I forget) and I was terribly concerned about the storyline and trailer so of course I came to YT to find everyone else who was like....WTF is this supposed to be??. I haven't watched the whole movie but after a few interviews and reviews, I have it in my to watch list when I'm in a better state to be open to the idea like people are recommending.

Uhh...can the people claiming pedophilia give us some more info. I really didn't see that in the film. I felt like the author decided to take two different lonely, disillusioned people and put them together for a while and see what happens. At one point I thought/hoped they were going to develop more paternalism. It was great to see someone make a film who didn't just want to make money. This happens every so often.

Good heavens...I’m sure it’s just the nature of this topic, but seriously there were a couple moments I was waiting for one of these two actors to tell us that they were ACTUALLY in love. I mean, I just don’t know, a lot of this dialogue and behavior honestly sounds “grooming” without the sex, of course. I just got a general discomfort with this interview and Ross’s demeanor. I just can’t put my finger on it, so I’ll defer to my gut and move on.

Hontestly, what a great film. So heartbreaking and raw. It really conveys that small cast and low budget films can be the most moving and spectacular films. David: "You're really beautiful you know that? You're whole." Tommie: "Really?" David: "Yeah". I cried so hard at the end. I was shaking. One of the hardest goodbye's I've ever watched. Ross Partridge did a wonderful job as both writer/director and actor. Oona was absolutely stunning she burst into the role fiercely with all the tendencies of an adult but she was still able to maneuver with innocence and naivety. I'm so thankful someone created such a controversial film. It really struck me deep. I connected with Tommie so much. And identifying with Tommie gave me a sense of empathy towards David. What a tragic and astounding film. Props to Ross Partridge and Oona Laurence.

I'm replying a year after you posted your comment, but I hope you don't mind. You quoted some dialogue and it made me realise how important it is to pay attention to what is said in movies like this one. Most of the time, dialogue holds meaning that you really need to think about to truly appreciate a scene or the whole movie. The line that personally got me in Lamb was "Don't ever forget the things that we've seen together because it'll save you." This is so true when it comes to the little girl. Think what she was doing with her life before setting out on the journey: lousy friends, inappropriate clothing, smoking... Her life was turning out to be a mess. I was happy for her that she was given the opportunity to see that it can be different.

You definitely make a good point, but look where her life was going. I initially thought she was a lost cause judging by the clothes she wore and the things she did simply because her "friends" told her to. About that cigarette she got, it might be just me but I thought the man only gave it to her so that she realises it's bad for her. Similarly to what some parents do when they catch kids smoking (that's assuming it was her first one, which might not be the case). I basically considered it the lesser evil, but I may need to rewatch the scene. You have to take the whole story into consideration. She ultimately didn't want to go home (which was out of the question of course) and I think the true reason for that was because she finally found a person, who seemed to care about her, and that probably satisfied her need to be important in someone's life. She obviously couldn't get that from her parents. I don't think it's relevant whether her home life was abusive or not (as far as the story is concerned of course; it's *not* my intention to trivialise home abuse). What matters is that she just wasn't able to find attachment in it so she was forced to clutch at straws. I actually think that both of the characters were driven by selfishness (and it makes them even more believable in my opinion): the girl didn't want to return because she enjoyed being noticed for a change, and the man needed them to stay together for as long as possible in hopes of "fixing" himself. The problem is that in order to do so, he had to resort to lies and manipulation, which is never acceptable. It's such an unconventional story.

I had to force myself to watch this movie through because it was so full of boundary violations i sat clenched for the most part just waiting for "it" to happen. I am 67 year old a retired Child Protective Services social worker and Program manager and have see more than I care to remember "and I do" cases of child sexual abuse and "neglect" The message in this movie that I walked away with was its OK to take a child "play on her fear and confusion" and use that to meet ones own needs....everything in this movie implied he wanted to "teach" her how he felt about life and that that was ok. (most pedophiles will say they loved their victims") but his expression of that came across as one of control and manipulation not unlike that of a pedophile. All pedophiles believe that their victims wanted to participate and the tragedy is they have convinced them they do, leaving their victims damaged for the rest of their lives. I just couldn't believe a women wrote this, we do not live in the world you think the characters do in that they will come through enriched and healthy individuals, do your research you have a responsibility as a writer as a women as a potential mother? Everything about this movie was wrong it left my soul screaming to get out and away from this demon perusing her .

I relate to both of these characters. I've had so much abuse (in every way) in my life and neglect. I also happen to be a writer. It's an unusual situation. I do not disagree. I'd not allow my child to befriend a middle aged man and if my middle aged friend told me about his 11 year old female friend there would be some serious alarm bells. Still, I viewed this from my personal experience and as a writer and I really do see a true connection and kinship here. It may be unrealistic but I have to say I'm still offended by you. I feel you don't know what you're talking about. It was a lovely piece and heartbreaking. My second grade teacher was 25 when he taught me. He moved back to Washington for a masters after his first year teaching. He'd taken an extra couple years to get his B.A.. He became pen pals with all us second graders in his first class. I kept it up. He'd tell me what he was learning. I'd share the same. He was always very supportive and encouraging and remained so. 8 years after I'd met him, he'd moved back to CA. 5 months later he welcomed his second. She and her elder brother are wonderful children and he and his wife are very happy. He still loves teaching, only it's college now. I know all this because we stayed unlikely friends over the years.

He abused her. I watched it and was so disgusted with this film. He groomed her and treat her so bad but I see all people missed the most disturbing moment in film. It was very subtle but it had to be this way, but he actually abused her in this movie, sexualy. The scene where he forced her to take of shirt and took her to that bathtub against her will. We don't see it, next scene is she is in the car and he tells her she was sleeping for 2 days! He drugged her! In the end of the movie she says her stomach hurts her, she has fever and is throwing up. Also one of the last scenes when they're coming back, they stay at the same hotel and he looks at her covered only in towel, he breaks in tears crying uncontrollably asking for forgiveness and saying other things that suggest he raped her. C'mon people! This movie needs to be banned! Most of people watching won't be getting ideas and fantasies while watching it but I can assure you, many people will take it this way.
