"If the people send me to Washington, the first thing I'll do is study that agreement...." You're debating it, right now; you've held a very vocal very public position that it is a bad agreement and yet you're going to wait till your elected to 'study' it'? THAT kind of empty carnival barker showmanship is why they tend to exclude marginal candidates. We saw the same thing with Trump be he was so deliberately bellicose that the 'good' people of the U.S. couldn't resist his appeal. The fact is though, that he didn't KNOW anything about anything. Like Perot, he had a lot of well-developed opinions based on opinions, but not much more. That's where the similarity ends. Perot was sharp, incisive and probably a very capable businessman. I believe he was also ethical and held a moral compass of some kind (if dominated by narrow business perspective), while Trump had and has no ethical or moral grounding at all.

+stockjonebills I don't think that's true. I think either you're too young to remember 1992 or you just forgot what the race looked like in the summer. Ross was leading in the national polls in July. He is also the last Presidential candidate to be leading in both Texas and California that late in the cycle. He lost because he stopped campaigning in late July then started up again in October. Trump is Perot 2.0 and wasn’t scared to go toe to toe with these people and this is why they are desperate to destroy trump because he is a threat to their power

I agree with stockjonebills. I've always thought the perfect debate would be without an audience, much like the 1960 debates (I think). This is where Americans in general need to be held responsible for their perceptions trumping cognitions; I remember the atmosphere very well during that debate as it was the first time I voted for a president. I recall the amount of ridicule Perot took in the media. Why was he ridiculed? 1) he was short. 2) He had an accent that people associate with ignorance. 3) anything he said was then filtered through those 2 perceptions and thus had zero credibilty. That "sucking sound" comment was fodder for years. And yet..... Its up to you to understand what is a social perception versus what is a real qualifications. You will need it for dating/marriage. You wil need it for work in assessing who you will work for and who you will not. You will need it as a human being. Smiles and quips are cheap. Yet people take them like their gold. Has nothing to do with competence only our perception of competence.

I was only 9 years old during this election, but I remember rooting for him the whole way. I doubt I understood anything about the policies being discussed, but I just knew I liked him and that he was a good and honest man. To answer your question, the media, which is the 3rd wing of the political establishment, convinced people that Perot couldn't win, thus they voted for 1 of the other 2 candidates. Exit polling revealed that an additional 19% of the electorate would have voted for Perot had they believed he could actually win. This would have given Perot 37%, which would have given him more than a 50% chance of winning in a 3 way race. The public got fooled, and a serial rapist was elected President of the United States of America.

If he's not affiliated with a party, then those party hacks in Congress, the administrators in his own departments (previously appointed by his predecessors), the justices (previously appointed by his predecessors) and the media (paid by the party hacks) will make it impossible for him to do anything he promises to do. This is why the independent Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders campaigns both decided to align themselves with a major political party. Before then, Trump had changed affiliation 11 times as an adult (and even ran as a Reform candidate) while Sanders was a member of the Socialist party and then was an independent. I remember when he said " I don't blink, my opponents blink" during one of these debates and it was true he didn't. Aside from that he was 100 percent right about NAFTA.

If he had been POTUS, and all that came after were businessmen/non-politician... I can't help but wonder how good America would be doing now (and me too, for that matter).

The problem with Ross was that he ran as an independent. An independent will never ever ever ever never ever win a presidency. If he ran as a Republican he would have had a very good chance.

SonnyGTA except he couldn’t, Bush was the president. He should have waited. That’s probably why Trump did that, because originally he too ran as an independent
@timbishop24386 жыл бұрын
That may be true, but he did have liberal views on some issues. He was Pro-Choice, and I think he supported raising taxes on the top income earners.
@timbishop24386 жыл бұрын
@Jere Here so are you illiterate or just not smart? I never said I thought people who make more should pay more taxes, I was simply stating what Perot believed. (unless you were speaking rhetorically by saying "you", in which case I apologize for the above comment)

Jere Here I would hope that you’re trolling, but I’ve seen a lot of people like you that refuse to even try and comprehend what people are saying.

We don't want to punish the rich people we simply want them to pay their fair share instead of getting tax breaks and loopholes that the poor do not get

Not prophecy.. Just common sense..The man begged the Americans to go look it up...They voted for who sounded the best or looked the best...fools . Same as today...You can't vote for someone because they look like you or sound cool.. They should bring something to the table and have some balls to get things done for USA...
