I was only 10 in 92, needless to say, I didn't know a thing about politics. But but I distinctly remember that the t.v. personalities and most of the adults I knew at the time did nothing but make fun of this guy for looking weird and having a funny voice. Sometimes I like to blame my generation and people's addictions to smartphones and "social" media for the dumbing down of this country. Apparently it goes a lot further back. Even though I'm a member of the masses, I accept the fact that we get what we deserve.

The same way Ambassador Glasby promised Hussein he could have those oil fields and then hid the paper trail by classifying the memo is the exact same playbook that Addington and Yoo used to authorize the torture memos from the OLC during Bush Jr. presidency. In both cases, the people left holding the bag were mostly low-level American soldiers and in neither case, even after the public wanted the full release of either, did our government comply. Some republic or democracy we really do have. Even our current President can't seem to get the Justice Department to comply when he demands they release a full FISA warrant that was used to spy on his campaign. Perot was a visionary and a truthful man, that's why he couldn't have ever been elected. Far too dangerous to people who believe that they cannot ever make mistakes and at any rate must never, ever have anything they do scrutinized by the public.

Carey M X Thomas i think he was comparing Trump and Perot more about their anti-establishment crusade then their personalities. Perot and Trump SCARED the political system , as Perot was able to get 1/5 of the country to vote for him despite not being a part of the 2 party monopoly. Trump saw that and has said the only way to win as an Anti-Establishment candidate is take over one of the parties in the primary., not as a 3rd party. If Perot challenged Bush in 1992 Republican Primary instead of Buchanan, he may have won the nomination because Buchanan was too far right. Perot would have then beaten Clinton cause he would then had the Republican Base AND those 19% that felt ignored by the country. That is Exactly what Trump did. So no doubt Trump and Perot are different personalities, but Perot spoke to a section of the country that wasn’t on board with the Establishment Political System. Trump saw that Perot ‘92 model and remessaged it in the 2016 Republican Primary.
