@@JAMMIM19 The assumption many have made is that there was supposed to be a gag where Dana hits Will, like a fake slap, but the person in charge of sound didn't make it go off so it looked ridiculous. So the two of them just had to play it off and try not to break character.

@@trogdorthe8th the way i saw it, it was not meant to be a blow at all, but a gesture to demonstrate the son's short attention span, like a hypoactive kid or a puppy that would follow a hand's movement instinctively and lose focus on anything else going on..then go back to the antlers as he saw them for the first time,..then the gun.

My dad and I went to Las Vegas for my 16th birthday and we saw Dana Carvey and his two sons doing a show there. Dana was talking about how he met George W. Bush at the White House and George thought he did a very good impression of him. Bush actually requested if Dana could do an impression right then and there. Dana then imitated him by calling one of the security guards outside the room and one came in actually thinking it was really Bush.

@Counterpart 2U i think the snl timeline has a lot of twists and turns. eddie murphy saved the show in his day.. billy crystal and martin short were brought in later as "ringers" .. its a unique process and what theyre trying to do up there isnt easy.. like other shows that have takes etc..

Dana carvey got understandably confused on the timing of the slap because will Ferrell plays with the antelers 2 times but was supposed to be slapped on the 2nd so Dana understandably confused the 1st for the 2nd and improvised when he realized its still early in the skit and wasn't suppose to slap yet. Two great comedians subtly fixed it and made it part of the skit. There explained.
