@Silent Solitude Jennifer Diane Reitz is also the creator of the slightly infamous "Kokoro Wish" comic, in which she has her husband berate himself for being a failed game designer. As far as I can tell, "Boppin'" is the only game that she and her husband ever created. She started to create webcomics after she had a mental breakdown, which came from the personal realization that she had spent a massive chunk of her life on game development, while failing to complete any games. Ben Saint has an entire lecture covering her: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIDRXpqJidh3bc0 Basically, she's the original weeb. She was incorporating otaku culture into her works long before anyone else. She was also ahead of time, with game design, by trying to design an open world planet trekking game on the Amiga, known as "Multiverse." The game was never finished. Unfortunately, in the past decade, she's become incredibly bitter and misanthropic. The "Kokoro Wish" comic was created, in this time frame. In this time frame, she's also been creating a large amount of MLP fanfiction on Fimfiction, in two separate AU collection of fanfictions, "Friendship is Optimal" and "The Conversion Bureau." The former is about a massive digital network in which humans are sacrificing their physical forms to adopt pony OC's, with Celestia being the supreme AI of the network. The latter is about an alternate world in which FiM ponies exist alongside humans, in the same world. Human civilization is collapsing, due to humans being terrible, and ponies, who are depicted as a far more peaceful species with a far more stable civilization, are converting humans into ponies, in conversion camps. The humans in the camps are willing participants. Reitz sides with the ponies, in her stories. Edit: OK, so it turns out that "Kokoro Wish" was probably created during the "mental breakdown" period as an expression of her initial bitterness towards her failure to create games with her husband. That would explain why the artwork is a bit iffy, compared to her other works. The webcomics that she created in the early 2000's were of a higher quality. She incorporated her ability to depict strange realities, which follow their own rules, into the webcomics. Also, all of her AU MLP fanfiction is exclusively within "The Conversion Bureau" AU. She just takes some inspiration from "Friendship is Optimal." As far as I can tell, she's responsible for creating the majority of the major conventions, in the "Conversion" AU. The original story was written by a teenager, who had recently learned some the horrible actions of humanity in history, as a form of wish fulfillment. It's fairly basic, and it's incomplete. It didn't establish much of an AU, on its own, which gave her an opportunity to create a full AU. She has some skills with doing that, in her webcomics.

@@masako8980 Honestly long enough that I don't remember the details. Also, i didn't read the fic(s), they are absurdly long, I just read about them, and a bunch of posts from the author in the comments. However if I recall right its a fic where earth and Equestria(the My little pony setting) slowly merge into one, forcing both to live along each other. But in reality the whole thing is a setup by the ponies to brainwash humanity by offering them to be turned into ponies and live in Equestria. Which honestly would be a fine fic, I like weird unique stuff, but from everything I read: the brainwashing ponies who trick people into becoming ponies,(which if I recall right actively changes their mindset to become pro pony even if they were not before) are pictured as the "good" guys. And the group that is trying to blow the whistle/stop them is stupid for trying to change progress, and eventually all get killed or converted. The author made multiple statements about wanting humanity to end, being pro SJW/LGBTQ and I suspect the whole fic is a stand in for the modern "you with us or to be eradicated" movement on that. I like dark fics, I don't like dark fics when the author is not in on what it is. or is actively endorsing the villains.(sympathizing and complex villains is fine, saying humanity deserves to die so anything that can be done to them is moral... is not) Edit: Just to affirm again, its been like a year since i looked into this, so if I got anything wrong, sorry.

Tom's received a lot of criticism in the comments, so I'm gonna focus on what I think was right. Having watched Moon Gaming, I feel like he's gotten way better. I kind of enjoy his depressed, deadpan approach to how he narrates games, specially with the analogies he uses. It's like he's so broken by the game that he's just numb, however, I think it needs some work. He could stand to add a little more sarcasm or something to it, or perhaps other gags to keep the monotone from going on too long. We have a lot of videogame commentators who sound like they don't care and those that do often just scream or get angry, we don't have many who are just done with the game, so I feel this is a cool road he might be on I'm not an actor of any sort, so what the hell do I know, but I feel this might help.

I think Tom's addition to this episode was great-- Ross seems to have had a completely different impression of the game than Tom. Ross serves to point out everything worth speaking about from the game (it is his game dungeon, after all,) and Tom serves to criticize it from a more objective standpoint. I'm not sure exactly why Tom is getting so much flak, I haven't really read anything other than "i dont like tom, ross you are ruining my life"

I know that Ross is a fan of Tom's work, as am I, but I imagine if I saw a guest I hated on this show I'd probably complain. It's also possible that people don't actually hate Tom, they only hate the idea of guests on the Game Dungeon. I notice that a lot of the complaints are about Tom being negative, which would only make sense if this was an unscripted conversation, this makes me think that people are looking for flimsy excuses to hate him.

Apparently, from reading other comments, people don't like his performance because he isn't putting enough emotion into it. Sorry that not everyone when being critical of a game sounds like the AVGN, I guess? You don't need to be constantly going ham with your audio, you can speak in a calm, measured tone. Would it really be better if he faked being angry and more "emotion" into his lines? I don't think so. I like Ross's stuff, I wouldn't be watching the show if I didn't, but I always felt that that comment from the Secret World video was very telling of his personal tastes more than what's necessarily good. I really liked the back-and-forth here with two different perspectives. In many ways Tom represents the majority. That's why we tend not to see games like this these days. Everything today is ridiculously tutorialized, and if a player gets stuck, it's the developer's fault. In many respects, this is correct (to a certain extent), but I don't think this necessarily means games that are obscure, hard to crack, and unusually punishing "bad". That's probably only true if they were poorly executed to their vision, and those qualities were simply symptoms. We could ask ourselves what we would change in this game. If we did those changes, would it still be as interesting of a game? Or would it be normal and forgettable. I think it found an interesting use for sprite-swapping as gameplay, but maybe got carried away in a few levels. Also, yes, that boss battle is bad. lol

"You see, Sweety's world was ruled by a totalitarian theocracy. People were forced to play in the arcades to forget the hopelessness of their lives. The programmers who created Sweety wanted him to embody the remnants of their own rebelious spirit. He became enormously people because he symbolized the freedom that his world craved. The power of Sweety reflected the beliefs of the people who made him real. He could have embodied the freedom that his creators craved. Unfortunately, he lacked the same courage that they lacked. He couldn't question the laws and beliefs that had enslaved his world's people any more than they could. In the end, he became the incarnation of the evil that his creators despised." I think this encapsulates the problem I have with a lot of video game stories produced by asian developers.

I honestly thought this must have been released recently due to the game design being so bizarre and engineered towards challenging the player's mindset with respect to how to play the game. I had to look it up to see the game came out in 1991.

I certainly don't want to see guests like Tom omitted, but I definitely think the dynamic needs some work. For instance, when Tom first appeared and started talking, I was confused. From the way he was talking I wasn't sure if he was reviewing it with you or if you were using his clips from a previously recorded video. By the end of the video I was on board with his presence but something about his introduction to the video was... jarring somehow. Also, based on the way your audio meshed I'm guessing you both recorded your parts individually. While this make sense from the Game Dungeon standpoint, I'm not sure I can agree with it. If you're going to have multiple people review or talk about a game (or any product really), it makes more sense to me for all reviewers to be together so that the ideas and subjects can bounce between them. As I implied before, it didn't seem like Tom was reviewing it with you so much as you included clips of his review. Now, I realize that the preferred scenario I'm describing is the Moon Gaming episode which wasn't too popular either, but there has to be a way to make this work. I get what you're trying to do here, and I'm sure there's a version of this that will appease your audience the way you want it to. I think you need to keep looking is all.

Ross, you do whatever you want with your show , I know, but I have some criticism here, just as an anonymous watcher: Tom seriously needs to step up how invested he sounds when he talks about these games, or you need to keep Moon Gaming out of Game Dungeon honestly. I cannot for the life of me pay attention to Tom when he's talking about the game, he's just not nearly as entertaining as you to listen to, and that sort of sucks because I REALLY enjoy Game Dungeon content. Again seriously if you wanna keep doing this that's cool but I feel like I can't *possibly* be the only one who feels this way in your audience.

+atomheartother Absolutely this. Either he needs to match Ross' enthusiasm to keep up the pace of the show, or if he wants to be a drier counter to Ross, then he needs to be sound more like it. Right now, his lines aren't bad, but the juxtaposition of his "average youtube game reviewer delivery circa 2011" compared to Ross' unique style just makes parts of this feel weak.

Fun fact about the creator: She created the fucking My Kokoro Wish comic as well, and a couple webcomics that have WILD universes surrounding the nature of mortality, time travel, and sex dolls being turned into super heroes, the COGIATI which by all metrics is a TERRIBLE way to figure out if you're trans or not and you shouldn't use as any kind of legitimate test, and she's a notable MLP fanfiction artist that apparently the MLP fandom has a ton of problems with.

Boppin' was designed by Jennifer Diane Reitz, a magical unicorn creator goddess temporarily assuming human form as a scary transsexual misanthrope from Oregon. If you think the game is trolling you, that's kind of the point. _You_ are still stuck in your constrictive morality and the limiting perspective of a resident of _Mundis mundis_, a boring, nondescript universe of round planets. Good or evil, fun or frustrating, these are constructs that the cruel human world imposes upon you, and if you do not free yourself and open your mind to the vastness of the Multiverse, you are like Hunnybunz: but a reflection of the evil of the world that made you. And _all_ of her creations are like this, from Boppin' to her My Little Pony fanfic, which involves ponies committing genocide against humans as Equestria slowly merges with Earth. It's like everything she creates has to be some sort of personal symbolic revenge against the world for having Christianity in it or something.

I am in awe of your taste in games to review. I kinda sorta maybe made a quickie review of this obscure gem a short while before this was uploaded, but, that was just a quick 'Hey, I remember this', this is really impressive. Game Dungeon is a great series, and I really appreciate the effort you put into making it. Thanks to your video on the game, my GF and I both play Secret World, and this is me never having gotten into an MMO before this. We play together, and it's a source of much fun and enjoyment between us. Dumb little slice of life story, but, thought you might like to know you have a positive affect in a million different ways in many lives, even by making fun videos about classic and obscure gaming.
