Between Level 17 and 18-Use the flag and shovel to guide the Baldies to the warp. 1 out of every 4 will be warped to the next level. 2 minutes. Put the flag in the warp and use the shovel to make paths to the warp. There are Baldies in each corner. Since they are Builders, they will go towards the warp. Make sure you dig a wide path so they won't wander around. Between Level 27 and 28-Use the soldiers to kill the Hairies in the trees. Every Hairy killed is an extra Baldy in the next level. Put a Baldy in every tree. If a Hairy is in it, the soldier will get killed. Then put another one in to kill him and take over the tree. From what I researched, it's apparently wrong : "It’s determined by your hair follicles’ sensitivity to DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, an androgen (male sex hormone) that is a byproduct of testosterone. The androgen receptor (AR) gene creates the receptor on hair follicles that interact with testosterone and DHT, and if your receptors are sensitive, hair loss can occur. The androgen receptor is on the X chromosome, which is what leads many people to incorrectly assume that male pattern baldness comes from the mother’s side of the family."

I don't think "Cute characters going brutal/to war" is that unusual Ross, especially not in old school gaming. Cannon Fodder, Worms, Tiny Troops, even Settlers can go on there, and this is just from the top of my head. A lot of devs had these anti-mascot kind of games, made as some sort of "counter culture" to all the Marios, Sonics and Megamans, etc. Even the Baldies here seems to me like that, (rather than a commentary on bald people.) I guess this is why it's so obscure. You can't really get too famous with a game that seems to be a big in-joke. Nevertheless, great video as usual.

One of the things I legit love about your videos are the silly after-credit segment, and this game did not fail me in that regard. A+

There is something about this episode and many others where I can just watch them over and over again. I think I've watched this 10 times or more since it came out. Keep up the great work man! Been with you since I saw your stuff on machinima all those years ago :) I enjoy this show more than freeman. It would be nice to see another episode of civil. I know you got your movie plan :) I looking forward to that a lot more. Hope to see you at a Con one day :)

Ross, you have once again convinced me to play a game I otherwise probably wouldn't have even heard of. First it was Tyrian, then it was Strife and now, Baldies. Thanks, Ross.

Ross, I've been watching you for a long time. Years. Possibly even a decade. Point is, you've been around for about half of my life and that's pretty amazing. Sometimes, I think, man, Ross is in Poland or some shit. Eating snow. Being white, and straight, and like, probably eating some beans. Sometimes I compare my life to yours, then I remember, all I gotta do is punch a few walls. I love punching walls. And I love you. Keep it up, lion mane.

Ross, I am absolutely positive that I played a version that allowed you to spawn thousands of baldies. It would keep going the longer you held down the button. It was on one of the shareware/demo compilation discs if I recall so it's likely to have been left out in the full version.

I know this is an old video, but I recently found your channel and started watching your content. I remember playing the demo of Baldies 20 or so years ago, and I frankly didn't remember much of it _except_ the fact that you could hold one of the F-keys to keep spawning new guys from your cursor. So the information you found might not be all wrong, but it might only apply to the demo. I'm afraid I can't remember if it was the DOS or Windows version, but I believe it was the DOS one.
@fonesrphunny72422 жыл бұрын
Interesting. 1999s Rollcage also had demo exclusive cheats on the F keys. Now I wonder if there were more. Certainly some material, if you wanna make fun of game journalists. :)

For some reason whenever youtube recommends me some Ross, it's always this game, and everytime I see it I watch it again, this is probably one of my fav Game Dungeons

Loved the game as a kid, dunno which version i had but turning all start baldies into soldiers and flying them over allowed me to win the whole campaign. After that i only played the first couple levels where the ai fights but not cheats. Last green levels and first desert levels. Trapping everything and torturing the enemy with all the traps, dunno if it was said but putting traps around houses blocks their upgrade till the trap is cleared.

Reminds me of King of the Hill when Boomhauer is playing a virtual reality lawnmower simulator, reaches underneath the lawnmower to remove an obstruction, and cuts off his virtual fingers in the process. "Aaaah! I ain't got no fingers!"

Thanks so much for covering this game! I played it an awful lot as a kid but could never get very far. Now I realise that the inventions are a bit of a distraction in the early game. As you said there is little to no information about this game, so it's nice to see someone finally beat it!
@Novous8 жыл бұрын
2:50. It's not too crazy. DOS and Windows had completely different ways to do timing. So what I think happened here is that the Windows port was RUSHED (hence no cinematics either-- the claymation video renderer likely using tons of per-pixel/ low-level memory transfers which would have ran LIKE PISS in the oldschool windows GDI mode - pre-DirectX) so the added difficulty of a relatively new system with relatively few books at the time (so inexperience in Windows game programming on the team), plus a rush to target the platform, meant they hit Windows 95 more as an after-thought and started to cut features to meet the deadline.

I love this series because I can zone out for a while and when I come back Ross is theorizing about how much hair he'll have based on his lineage and what he should do in a worse-case scenario while game footage plays in the back trying so hard to be the main subject again.
