Marko did help in one very definitive way: he kept the glove busy. Once Zanthia knew she was supposed to be heading up, not down, the glove was out for blood and nearly killed her multiple times. But by being so loud and obvious, and such a glutton for punishment, the glove had to waste most of its time dealing with him, and never even got to take a crack at Zanthia until she had almost made it all the way. He was just a bit of dumb muscle, just as good of a time sink as he was a footstool. So yeah, if you were irritated with him, imagine how much the glove must've hated him at this point.
@Accursed_Farms

As a magic scientist, the idea behind using an anchor stone to keep Kyrandia from disappearing is sound. Anchors keep things things in place, more or less, and a magical one would stop things from disappearing by keeping them there. It wouldn't fix the issue of things already gone though, so I'd say that still sounds like a rushed fix to prevent any further damage rather than solving the issue. To add, she is an alchemist so the lack of door is to make sure her cauldrons fumes don't stay inside or something blowing up wouldn't cause a dramatic increase in pressure in the building. An open window or two would do the same, but us magic scientists are pretty forgetful. Can't forget to keep the door open if there's no door.
@chuckwood3426

Yea, there is a trope in magical settings called a "dimensional anchor". This will prevent people from teleporting or using spatial magic in its vicinity. It would make sense that such an anchor would help prevent things from disappearing.

It's important to make an undo spell that is easy to remember, but won't get accidentally spoken in casual conversation around where the conjured chains.

I like the Princess Tomato method of clearing up inventory, basically all of your inventory is carried by a squire named Percy who occasionally tells you that he lost a large amount of your inventory items, usually when you enter a new area, this is the game's way of telling you that a new chapter has begun and you won't need those items anymore.

Indigo Potion is most definitely a reference to Kyrandia 1. Playing through it, at one section, you need to get Red, Blue, and Yellow potions, and in order to do that, you need to put a gem and a flower/fruit in the cauldron to get the potions. Tulip and Topaz for yellow, Ruby and Orchid for red, and finally, Blueberries and a Sapphire to make Blue potion. This game pulled a dirty trick. Trying to make sure you've played and remembered the potions from the first game, in order to make the Indigo potion for the Rainbow machine...

Nobody asked but for anyone wondering. The reason the upwards horseshoe is lucky is because a upwards facing horseshoe "fills" up with luck as though it were a jar. LoK 2 is my favourite of the series - probably similar to many people watching this video. It was the perfect difficulty for a kid without a guide - not too hard, but also not easy enough that you could finish it in only a few evenings. Beating it (and many other point & click adventures) was a collective effort between me and my friends - we'd do our best to progress every night, then shared our findings the next day at school. Fun times.

It's been a long time coming, and I know we're in for a banger in the first 5 minutes. Man, this Monday's been THE day for cool stuff dropping into my subbox. First there's a Jimquisition about Stephanie Sterling relishing the accessibility of Street Fighter 6, then Mandy drops a review for Aliens: Dark Descent, and now Ross graces us with a Game Dungeon! The stars have aligned, and I'm revelling in this tidal wave of quality content. Hell, at this rate I'll barely have enough time left for System Shock! Also, as an addendum, while lead is more traditionally believed to be the base metal you transmute into gold, in real life you're more likely to have better luck with MERCURY. After all, certain isotopes of mercury (194, 195 and 197) eventually decay into gold, so if you're able to knock the neutrons out of a mixture of stable mercury isotopes, parts of that mercury will eventually turn into gold. Thing is, mercury-194 has a half-life of 444 years, so you're not gonna get immediate returns on your investment there. 195 is a better bet, but while its half-life is only about 10 hours, the resultant gold-195 has its own half-life of about 6 months, wherein its isotopes turn into stable platinum-195. Meanwhile, mercury-197 has a half-life of 64 hours, but it decays into gold-197, the sole stable isotope of gold.

I think the indigo potion is a callback to a potion you had to craft in Book One. I'm not absolutely certain but it makes sense to me that it is, especially as the violet gem is from the first game and hasn't shown up in Book Two's footage before.
@AceKuper
@AceKuper Жыл бұрын
It is in fact made the same way it would be made in Kyrandia One, so it is a callback. I don't think there is any hint in the second game besides the dialog about the Gem being part of the potion.

Regarding the comment at 29:46, since gold is significantly heavier than marble (assuming the statue still has the same volume afterward and isn't hollow or something), the gold David statue would be worth a minimum of around 2.5 billion dollars, assuming the statue is made of heavy marble. If it's made of light marble, it would be worth more like 3.6 billion. According to an article I found, Elon Musk's net worth went up 161 billion dollars in the last 10 years, which means he made around 500 dollars per second over that period. That means he earned the equivalent of one low estimate gold David statue every 59 days, or one high estimate gold David statue every 87 days.

Wow, Kyrandia seems like such a fun setting! It was shown off a little in the first game, but I think one of this game's strengths is just how varied the world of Kyrandia can be. I would love to read a book or two in this setting. Also thanks for playing this Ross, I didn't even know this was a series! What a wonderful little world they created.

Kyrandia really doesn't seem keen on making sure that our heroine succeeds. I mean they didn't send anybody else as backup, didn't give her a magical phone to call them if she needed help, didn't even give her some funds or a ride to get where she needed to go. Just "You sort it all out!" and they all sit twiddling their thumbs just waiting for her to fix all their problems. Now, I'm not a monarch (anymore), but I would've personally had my best people escort her on the quest to save our world just to play things safe.

Regarding enforced pun puzzle, i'd say the Monkey Wrench from Monkey Island 2 probably count as one. It also made the game harder in french, cause we don't have a one-to-one translation of the term "monkey wrench", so guessing that the "singe" could be used as a "clé à molette" was quite a stretch...

The spoiler cover reminds me of my favorite trend in Fantasy and Sci-Fi novels that you don't really see enough anymore: the "in what context does this image make sense?" cover. You saw it more in Sci-Fi, as Fantasy was often content to just have a guy with a sword next to some important magical item, but there was a time in Speculative Fiction where the cover would just be a scene in the book that could not possibly be a spoiler because from the premise you couldn't possibly figure out how the scene happens without reading the book. If you read a Sci-Fi magazine back in the day it was either this or a busty women in a tight space suit and you had to read the magazine to be surprised by which short story ended up with a spaceman meeting a giant flea in the void of space. Some novelist seemed to enjoy picking the most nonsensical scene to make for the cover of their book: like, this is a novel where all the characters are space fairing humans, why is there a hobbit tied to a lady centaur in the middle of a burning field with spear wielding figures in the background? Why are there goat demons riding pegasus in a storm? Points if you can name to stories I'm referring to. They're both from the same Sci-Fi author.
@Powoga
@Powoga Жыл бұрын
I had to look it up, but I think you're referring to _Midnight at the Well of Souls_ and _Exiles at the Well of Souls_ by Jack L. Chalker. _Midnight at the Well of Souls_ also had a cover with dolphin-riding dinosaurs in the desert. Probably some sort of marketing decision to make the books stand out? That's my best guess, anyway.

I'd definitely live in Kyrandia. Probably somewhere in Morningmist Valley. Fantastic Westwood title I loved playing in my childhood. Zanthia's VA (Bonnie Lynn Toups) isn't credited w/ any other titles but her characterization of the alchemist brought her to life. Loved the music too (I have Darkmoor Swamp as my first YT upload...) My all-time fav adventure (rpg hybrid) is Quest for Glory IV, but Kyrandia II: The Hand of Fate is up there. ✨

One thing you have to consider when thinking about fantasy world economics, Ross, is that their universe may not be bound by the same rules as ours. Sure, having access to infinite gold seems like it might tank the value quickly, but maybe gold just has a really short half-life and decays after only a few weeks or something. And their world may not be as permanent, things might just change when nobody perceives them. If gold is still rare enough to be valuable despite alchemy, maybe they just can't hold onto it.
@quintessenceSL
@quintessenceSL Жыл бұрын
That you mention it, fantasy world economics would be the closest to a post-scarcity economy. You'd still need tokens for trade (credits in Star Trek) and labor is still going to be an issue (a world of near endless materials, but no robots), but gold as a store of value wouldn't make much sense. It would primarily be a knowledge based economy (as opposed to data), focusing on unique items rather than mass production. That's going to make for a very different culture.

I got the floppy disk version of this game for my 13th birthday back in 1996. It came in the box shown at 1:02. I remember taking off the wrapping paper and looking at it in confusion. I ask my aunt, “What is this?” “It’s a computer game.” “Oh neat!” I remember making it almost to Volcania without any hints or walkthroughs, but I couldn’t figure out that you needed to use a magnet on the ship. This game was quite a departure from the Sierra adventures I was used to, but I still had fun playing it. Good review.
