These ladies from Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand are just lovely! One thing I have noticed is that Indonesian pronunciation is very very close to Italian, they would have no difficulty if they tried to speak it. We have a couple of words for scarf, one of them is “scialle” which sound similar to the Indonesian word for scarf. Scialle comes from Persian language, I wonder if the Indonesian word has the same origin.

Good observation! For sure, Italian and Spanish speakers would have little problem learning Indonesian. Unlike our neighbors in Southeast Asia, we Indonesians roll our Rs like you, and we also have your “gn” (or Spanish “ñ”) sound, but it is written as “ny” in Indonesian. One thing that might be tricky for you is our nasal “ng” which French and Portuguese speakers would be better at 😁 And yes, our “syal” ultimately originated from Persian شال but we didn’t receive it directly from the Persians themselves but via “sjaal” in Dutch.

@@kilanspeaks Thanks for the explanation! I indeed suspected that the word could have been brought to Indonesia by the Dutch colonisers. I knew about the fact that Indonesians can roll the R but with these videos I have learnt that you also have double consonants like us, correct me if I am wrong, and the funny thing is that no other European can pronounce them😅

@@marty8895 ohhh we do have double consonants in Indonesian, but we have different rules for them so they don’t sound like your nonna, cappello, doppio, rosso, etc. But that’s just the national language, Bahasa Indonesia. There are regional languages and dialects in Indonesia with similar rules to yours.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.” (2:136 / Translated by Community) Salam (Peace) -------------------------

9:22 for “pesawat terbang” it actually means “flying machine” as well because “pesawat” refers to all kinds of contraction, but most Indonesians wouldn’t know the meaning of this word either. For example, phones can also be “pesawat telepon” which refers to the device or the receiver on the landline. I’m glad Violin knows her stuff and was able to explain things clearly in English, just like how she explained the meaning of “penghapus” which has the same logins as the word “eraser” in English. I also appreciate her explaining both the proper term for cellular phone and the colloquial one.

I’m glad that my mother tongue, Thai, is represented. Yay 🇹🇭!!! I saw Thai representatives less often than those of other SEA languages so please invite more of them to be featured in your videos! Anyway, the other word Metavee said for Coca-Cola is น้ำอัดลม (naam-ut-lom) and it basically means “carbonated drink”. As for eyeglasses, she was right explaining about slices of something because แว่น (waen) means a circular piece of something. In this case, it refers to two circular pieces of glass so แว่นตา (waen-dtaa) essentially means circular pieces (of glass) for your eyes 🤓. Also, a magnifying glass is called แว่นขยาย (waen-kayai). Again, the word “waen” so in this case, it means a magnifying circular piece (of glass).

carbonated gas drinks(water) = น้ำอัดลม( nam-ud-lom) Many words in Vietnam are derived from the Kra Dai languages through the Zhuang and Tai Dam groups in Vietnam, such as the words maow(cat), tong (gold, copper, field) ,moi(new). As for the word mha (dog), the sound is distorted from the word ma (horse), which means a small horse (dog).

It's fascinating how the word for "eyes" sounds similar in Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. In Indonesian, "mata" is reminiscent of the Vietnamese "mắt," but Vietnamese pronunciation is similar to the Japanese "目" (me). The Vietnamese girl (or the editor may have cut her parts) didn't name all the Vietnamese names of each word. As with the phone, there's a 'more' generic full-name ("điện thoại di động") which means "mobile phone" - the phone that you carry with you at all times. Or the airplane, there is another unpopular name which is "phi cơ". This name is technically the same as "máy bay" but just inspired by Chinese ("phi" is similar to "bay" or "flying", "cơ" is the same as "máy" which means "machine"). In addition, many Vietnamese people simply call these scarves "khăn". They rarely use "khăn choàng". But it actually depends on the context, as "khăn" can represent "cloth", "rag", "clout",...". The word "cục gôm" (eraser in south Vietnamese) is equivalent to the Thai one combined with the Japanese one - "cục" means a thing you hold and "gôm" means rubber. The dog one is more tricky. Yes the most known word for it is "chó", but in some places some will call it "cún" (usually the same as "puppy" but some polite people or dog lovers would like to use this more often to call the dogs) or the unpopular one "cẩu" (sounded more like our dogs' barking sounds - "gâu". And also inspired by Chinese).

With my knowledge of Japanese, been there 7 times, knew all those words except that for scarf. Scarves aren't really a thing in Japan so never thought what they would call one. What got me, there were not many cognates to guess these words in the other languages there. But quite a few Japanese words do come from British English. Such as Toire (toilet) meaning bathroom (otearai is also used), bonetto (bonnet, meaning hood of the car, otobai meaning motorbike and more. Japan drives on the left side of the road, I was told because the British set up their railway system so the trains ran that way, so when they then had cars, it was natural to drive on the left.

Muffler is technically the British English name for a specific type of scarf, apparently used here in the North of England, but in my 20 years of life I've never heard a single person call it a muffler, at least I don't think I have lol

The eraser in Vietnamese is yes depend on region. "cục tẩy": "cục" literally means a lump, a chunk, a block of something, while "tẩy" is getting from Chinese word 洗 (which means wash or erase). "cục gôm": with the "gôm" is borrowing from the West (Latin?) word gum. Most precisely, its original is from a French word (i believe it's "gomme") It's pretty funny that it's pretty close to Japanese where keshi means wash an gomu is gum, which make it a combine of both words from 2 regions in Vietnam

Its austronesian language. You can find every language talked by south east Asia with mata or mat or maat and they all have same meaning. Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean and japanese is not austronesian. Korean and japanese is considered not related to other language except each other. Thai actually use siammese language thats why its similar to austronesian. @@boboboy8189 Many scholars misunderstand that the kra-dai language actually comes from Austronesian. Then the Austronesian language arose in Taiwan. It is possible that Pre-Austronesian languages are the ancient Kra-dai dialects spoken by the mainland China to Taiwan. Because the origin of the Austronesian language is Taiwan. such as the Athayal tribe As for the Siamese language that you said, It is a hybrid language between Kra-dai(Tai), Mon-Khmer, Sanskrit, and overseas Chinese. However, scholars classify it as a descendant of Kra-dai.

There is something I realized as an Indonesian, that at first I forgot the Indonesian word for Scarf, and when I said "Syal" it felt like the word was not Indonesian. I just realized the reason is because Indonesia has a tropical climate where it is always dry all year round, only interspersed with the rainy season so scarves are very rarely used and spoken of by Indonesians. 😂

6:24 it is actually "Điện thoại di động" not "Điện thoại", "Điện thoại" is Phone or Telephone, "di động" mean mobile or cellular (cell). And a "Điện thoại thông minh" or Smartphone is a mobile phone with some powerful hardware which can compare to a near level computer, a superior OS, multimedia, ... If a phone like basic in 2000s like only call and texting or save contacts and mobile, we can call that is "Feature phone" or " Điện thoại phổ thông". Sorry about my English it is not good enough
