I have 2 of them, a 357 Magnum and one in 454 Casull. I love them both, the 357 gets the most rounds for obvious reasons and the 454 over the last 10 years has accounted for 6 deer, no tracking. Fit and finish is excellent, the actions are very smooth and I doubt those that knock these rifles have ever handled them. I have close to 2000 rounds through the 357, it's an absolute tack driver and has digested everything I've fed it, little pea popper 38's to 180 gr. 357's, factory and handloads. Never missed a beat, best deal on the market.

One thing I forgot to mention was that after bringing the R92 home I gave it a good cleaning. I found that the locking bar raceways and the barrel bore was polished !!!! Like a mirror. Looking through all the YT videos on the R92. Stumbled on your video. Nice video. I just happened to pick up a R92 357 in stainless. I’ve always wanted a 357 carbine. Finally found one, and it just happened to be about as new as a 10 year old rifle could be. Got it as a shooter, so I dissembled it, polished up everything, and cut some of the magazine spring off. Taking off some of the spring has made loading so much easier. It’s honestly my favorite rifle now, something about a PCC lever gun. Now I have to find a 44 mag to go with my Ruger Alaskan. The mystery individual you are talking at Henry is most likely none other then the company president, Mr. Anthony I. It's ok. He is a surprisingly accessible and attentive man. He helped me locate a hard to find Henry rifle and had them send it to my local retailer. He also sent me camp mugs and outerwear. Amazing attention in this day and age! I also have a .357 Rossi 92. It's a solid gun, but it has had some issues. The lever linkage froze up on one occasion, and the side loading gate came off of its hinge. I had my gunsmith go over it Result: Smooth action, steel magazine follower with reduced spring tension, and removal of that flimsy safety. I'm keeping the Rossi, but if I had to choose one lever gun, it would definitely be the Henry.

I own three of these: .357, .45 Colt, .454 Casull. WARNING! Original '92 Winchesters have firing pins longer than the bolt, so hammer all the way down means firing pin resting on primer, and a bump will fire the cartridge. The safety notch in the hammer is fragile, and easily sheared, so that a hard pull on the trigger can force it and fire the rifle from the safety position. I love 'em, but they are dangerous. The way Rossi "fixed" this was to make the firing pins short enough that hammer against frame/bolt didn't mean firing pin against primer. But they couldn't figure out how, or be bothered, to spring load the firing pin to the rear. Tip the muzzle of my .45 Colt down, the firing pin drops into the bolt, and the rifle won't fire. The .357 has enough grunge in the firing pin tunnel to hold it to the rear, unless you let the hammer down against the frame, pushing the pin into the bolt; then the rifle won't fire. I hadn't quite figured that out when I was working on a ranch, 40 years ago, and carrying the Rossi .357, with which I'd taken a few blacktail over the past few years, when I came across a matched pair of Dobermans wearing expensive rolled leather collars and choke chains, somebody's matched pair of guard dogs, that had slipped their leads and gone into business for themselves. They were miles from where they had any business being, and we had lambs and calves and both kinds of kids about. But its a tossup whether I was hunting the dogs or they were hunting me; when I caught up to them, they came for me. Maneuvering to get a better shot through the brush, I'd let the hammer down too far; when the lead dog cleared the brush and gave me a shot, he was 20 yards away. I cocked the hammer, put the Leupold 2x' crosshairs on his shoulder, and pulled the trigger. Click. I knew instantly what I'd done. The fastest way to fix it was to throw the lever and chamber a fresh round; the one I threw away is still there on the forest floor, for all I know. When I found the dog with the sights again he was 20 feet away and coming fast. A Speer 158-grain SJSP at 1860 FPS (old CIP-level load) in through the right shoulder and out the left hip dropped him; I got a bullet into the second dog's belly as he turned to run, followed up, found that one laying across the trail, head up. I shot him carefully through the heart from about 50 yards. I autopsy. The permanent wound channels were nickel to quarter diameter all the way through, and penetration through the first dog was at least 20 inches. My 7mm-08 doesn't do any better than that on blacktail, unless it hits bone (then it makes a mess). I left those dogs. Two days later, all that the coyotes hadn't eaten or dragged off were their spines. And until I can get firing pins long enough to at least be reliable, I've retired my Rossis.

I have both, the Henry Big Boy is an all brass model with tube loading only. The Henry is without a doubt a better quality rifle through and through. I'm not saying the Rossi is junk, so calm down. The tube loading is not an issue, it's quick and takes no effort, you can can quick loading tube round holders. The side loading gate on the Rossi is a bit tricky at times, anyone with a Rossi knows what I'm talking about, but it does work none the less. To empty a full tube is alo no issue with the Henry, just open the tube and let them slide out, in the Rossi, you have to cycle the action for every round. The Henry is side ejection, mounting an optic is simple, the Rossi is top ejection, so mounting an optic is a bit more of a problem. The Rossi is lighter, much lighter and easier to carry than the Henry, however the weight of the Henry takes the recoil much better when firing +P ammo but it will still tenderize your shoulder.

@@99Fabrication Sadly, no video. Have a few pics. One comparing it to the Marlin .44 I had. The stock came out of Texas, put a Skinner Ghost ring sight in place of the original. Ordered the DVD and included bits to slick up the action and feed tube follower. I cut the too big loop down by about a third. Made up a wooden form to the size and shape I wanted and tigged it back together. Eliminated the stupid little key lock. With the rubber butt pad, the OAL is 28 1/2 inches. Roll my own so it's fairly economical to shoot. Goes well with my Super Blackhawk. Cheers

I picked up a pre 1995 Interarms Rossi Puma 92, and I have to say - there are some QC and fitment issues - wood to metal finish is...not great. That being said, it's a damn fun gun, and it works. The action is pretty smooth. Shoots straight. Loads 357 and 38 sp without problems.

What America needs is an affordable lever action (and maybe a .22 pump that can slam fire). The problem is that the Rossi is now almost as expensive as a Henry.

What is a good or in your opinion, price ???? Anything that should send up red flags, that I should look out for ???
@99Fabrication3 жыл бұрын
Good question! A "good" price, in my non expert opinion would be relative. I paid , if I remember correctly, about $530. I bought it in 2019 and that was considered to full retail or kind of high. Now a days, it would be considered a steal due to the difficulty to locate and scarcity. Remember, if the price feels good to you when you purchase it then it was bought well. These days you have to compete for it. With that being said there's also a stupid level. So, if you ask me, I would give a sliding range of about $500-$650. Anything higher than that I'd probably pass. Things to be aware of? If you purchase new I wouldn't worry much. They are built well. Used? I wouldn't buy it unless I could run a couple of magazines of .38 spec and 357 mag myself through it and in person. As for an online used purchase it would really have to be cheap just to protect my wallet. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

I own two Rossi 92s, both in 44 mag. One is blue(?), The other one is stainless steel. I completely went through the blue one and refinished the furniture, receiver and barrel. I also slicked up the internals. The stainless one I left alone. Both were bought new and are a good value for the money. And they are excellent shooters. But neither one can match my Henry Big Boy Silver, in 44 mag, especially for quality. Henry is a Rolls Royce compared to Rossi's Volkswagen. Both will get the job done but Henry is so much nicer. Say hello to Anthony for me. He is first class. Just like his product.

@@99Fabrication Thanks ok. Each to his own. But one quick point about Henry service. When I was having trouble with my original Big Boy I sent it back to the factory 4 times for repairs. I'm sure I caused most of the problems with my tinkering. But, Henry did everything they could to fix the double feeding problem and when they couldn't do it they offered me my choice of a refund or I could pick ANY gun from their catalog to replace my rifle. The $4000 engraved Original Henry was tempting. But I picked the Big Boy Silver and don't regret it. I doubt that Rossi would make that same offer. And I love those coffee cups. Thinking of trading my Winchester 94 (post 64) in 30-30 for an R92 in 44mag. Is this a worthy trade or should I hang on to the Winchester?
@99Fabrication2 жыл бұрын
Im not an expert by any means on the values or performance of these lever guns at all. Im just an enthusiast with a few levers that I like to share with like interested folks. With that being said, they are both very powerful, the 30-30 more so. You would have to consider how you are going to use them. If you hunt deer I would suggest keeping the 30-30. The 44mag can do that too but I believe that the 30-30 is more suitable for that. Personal protection and plinking, I would go for the 44mag. Its probably cheaper to shoot too. If your financial situation permits I would keep them both. Even though the Winchester is a "post" 94, its still a Winchester and is probably a very fine piece. Plus it has lineage. You have choices. IMHO
@99Fabrication2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I had to come back and just say. I cant hold back. I would keep my Winchester and buy or save up to buy the 44mag Rossi. I mean its like butter knife or steak knife, BOTH. They both have utility. There, I said it, lol.
@JDMorris812 жыл бұрын
@@99Fabrication Thanks, I suppose you're right. My line of thinking was that since I'm on a limited budget and already own a revolver in 44mag and another rifle in 30-06, I could sell it and get the Rossi to pair with my revolver because as far as I can see comparing the ballistics, the 30-30 and 44mag are pretty much equal up to 100 yards which is the most I would expect anyway in the thick woods of where I live. If I needed longer shots I could always take out the 30-06.

My Rossi from the late 90's has the lifetime guarantee. Stainless, great gun except it wont cycle .357, only .38. You start with a .357 in the hole and the rest .38+P . A factory stamp was made on the back of the barrel before it was installed, right on the feed ramp so the longer casings snag when you try to cycle rounds. Otherwise a good gun but the denial of lever .357 stinks. Great as a .38 gallery gun.
