Just to make it clear - the video and the audio do not match/sync. I made the video by taking some video and merge it with Prime Time from the New Years Eve show. Hope you like it anyway, even though the video quality is bad...
For me Rossington Collins Band is one of the greatest bands to ever have played and made music, and it's a shame they got so little time. Dale Krantz' voice was (is) a killer, and she gave the band a certain personality and style which I love greatly.
Prime Time is a very, very, very good song by Rossington Collins Band, and this version played at The Omni was not an exception. This show was broadcast nationwide on the radio, and the setlist for the night was:
Prime Time
Opportunity
Misery Loves Company
One Good Man
Winners & Losers
Getaway
Three Times As Bad
Don't Misunderstand Me
Sometimes You Can Put It Out
Freebird
A great numbers of songs.
I'm not sure, but I guess there are two recordings of the show; one with a better sound quality than the other. But then again; on the one with the lesser quality you can hear much more of the audience, and they were over the top this night. If you can get a hold of one of these recordings - please do it!! It's the best show by them that I've heard, and I have quite a few of them now...
Rossington Collins Band are:
Dale Krantz (later Dale Krantz-Rossington) - Vocals
Gary Rossington - Guitar
Allen Collins - Guitar
Barry Harwood - Guitar, Vocals
Billy Powell - Keyboards
Derek Hess - Drums / Percussion
Leon Wilkeson - Bass Guitar

It was Skynyrd with a female vocalist and I loved it! The band deserved more love than they got back in the day. When I heard them at 15 in 80’ I could not get enough of them. Dale had and has a killer voice. Disrespected by the 80’s and that’s a shame.🎶

Skynyrd was a band I truly identified with in the 70's. Howvwer, I'm honestly surprised the Rossington Collins Band did not go over nearly as well. They should have. They had the same talented music writing machine with an outstanding lady singer upfront. She carried it. They rocked and regardless of obvious comparison to Skynyrd by everyone, they should have been received much better for their work!!! Great fucking band!

The music was great, the lyrics not so much. I recall at the time a friend telling me "I'm tired of listening to Dale Krantz's problems." I tend to agree. The first tour was very well attended, the second was not. I think the Skynyrd fans wanted to believe but the female singer wasn't really doing it for many people. On the night I saw them in '81, the band wasn't happening. Something was up with Allen Collins. He wasn't moving around at all and at the end of the show he just tossed his guitar, luckily it was caught by a roadie. I recall on the first tour 38 Special opened for RCB. They pretty much took the night. What a band back when they were still up and coming.

@@jamestate5059 I completely agree. They should have begged Paul Rodgers or Jimmy Hall to join the group. I get why they chose a female singer to replace Ronnie, but I don’t think it went over well with true fans of Skynyrd’s music.

RCB was a force in their own right....their 2 albums were awesome....totally underrated. I saw them in Santa Monica, CA at the Civic in 1979? I was still in HS and I graduated in 79 and the last song they played was Freebird without lyrics. The amps went out halfway during the show. Ominous to say the least. I can't remember which person came to the mic and said, "I think someone is telling us something" We then drove off to the hills of Pacific Palisades and smoke big fat ones overlooking the lights of LA and reminised about Skynyrd. Damn I miss those days.

I was there at Santa Monica and right when the guitar solo started they kicked the mic stand over that was upfront for Ronnie, then the power went out, they took a break for a minute came back out and went right back into the solo then power went out again, they got pissed off and left the stage and the lights came on...concert over

Great band. First concert I ever went to -- at a small theater in NJ in 1981. I loved Skynyrd with all my heart but was too young to ever see them live. By the time I knew who they were, they were gone. Had to beg and cry to get my parents to let me go to this show. They went with me to keep an eye on things. I had both the RCB albums and really loved the music. I think Dale Krantz wrote great hooks and had great spirit. Barry Harwood was a fine picker and singer. Sure, I missed Artimus, but I caught up with him years later. So happy I got to experience this band in person. It had only been four short years since the demise of LS. On top of their enormous talent as live musicians, one thing that sticks out in my memory is the amazing stage presence they all had. And here I am, all these years later. God bless em all and all of you too. -s

They could have searched forever and not found a better "frontman" than Dale. She was the complete package for RCB. Musically she helped push the band in new directions and gave them just what they needed to make this such a successful project.

Going with a female lead singer was a stroke of genius which truly set them apart from Lynyrd Skynyrd - which was the whole point of it. Regardless of what they called themselves, the comparisons to RVZ would have been inevitable for any man that took on that role. Going with a woman essentially eliminated that uncomfortable scenario, and allowed them to truly become a "new" band, despite essentially being the old band with a new singer. I don't think anyone ever saw Dale Krantz as RVZ's "replacement".

when they came to phx on their first tour, it was one of the greatest memories of my entire life, seeing my hero's, Allen and Gary picking right in front of us again. The opening band was called Russia or something like that and they barely got 2 or 3 notes out and the crowd booed and started throwing things at them and they ran for their lives. The whole night was magic and i get chills thinking about it. RCB was a great band. I miss you Allen, you were the best.

I was 17 or 18 back in the mid 60's when my band played a gig in East L.A. The crowd didn't want to hear Hendrix or Cream and began throwing stuff at us. I got hit in the head with a lime and our lead singer nearly got beaned by a beer bottle. Didn't take too long to get the hell out of there. Looking back I guess it was just part of paying our dues.

You should have been at Volunteer Jam at Municipal Auditorium when Charlie Daniels welcomed them on stage AFTER the crash and BEFORE RCB. Some of them still had casts on, it was the very first time any of them took the stage after the crash. First time they played Freebird with the mike stand out there with Ronnie's hat on it, as an instrumental. Now THAT was intense, the crowd was next level. Look that up.

This was a departure from Skynyrd. Thestory I heard was, they wanted something different, but similar. In MY HUMBLE OPINION, Dale was AMAZING. SHE HAD THE BALLS OF A MAN! When Allen wasn't wasted he was on top of his game. Gary was the ultimate professional and Barry Harwood filled the gap that Steve left......The only thing I missed ( besides Ronnie)was Artimus....For that period, I though he was one of the worlds best drummers. ON my first date w my future wife, I drove from NY to MD, picked her up, and drove to Fla, and listened to one cassette all the way down, GUESS WHICH ONE, RCB.........

To those who doubt Dale, just try and remember the time....The family was all to hell..They wan't to stick to it somehow- but didn't too...They knew each other -Dale lived down the road a ways. Everybody partied together back then if you were cool. When she sang- right away she just turned it loose- didn't have to try to be a Van Zandt, and nailed everything out of the gate, and the band went from "WTF are we gonna do/" to this is gonna be great. If you saw them with her-you saw it. If you want to stand back and throw rocks-you ain't got a clue....Don't compare the two styles, they changed "in the wind"...

I saw them in Indianapolis on this tour and it was a fantastic show! I think the problem was all the weight and baggage they carried which overall they never recovered from.

I seen them at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, N.Y. On the 80' tour. Very big deal at the time especially since I was a huge southern rock fan. Don't remember a girl singer ( obviously there was one.). She's no Bonnie Bramlett and not my first choice but competent I suppose. What I do remember is when they played "Freebird" at the end of the show there was no singer. Just a lone spotlight on the microphone stand until the jam started.

There is nothing wrong with the lady singing but to answer a lot of your questions this band needed a male singer

I was there!! I drove from Virginia to Atlanta to visit my old friend and see the show. Unfortunately he got popped lighting up too early and security caught him and held him in some holding area till after the show. I told him to wait until the lights went down but he couldn't wait. What could I do??

yugster78 This was 2 years after the crash. And yes, Allen almost got his arm amputated, but his father refused.

Wonder if they did any Skynyrd songs in concert during this period. Would have been interesting to hear FOR singing Freebird and other classic LS songs...
