The great Dale Krantz. And here's a little known fact for ya, they sniped her from .38 Special, she was in their band when Rossington Collins put their act together after the plane crash and they got her to come onboard, she's what put an end to what sanity Allen Collins had left, he fell for her and they started a thing then she dumped him for Gary Rossington which really put the zap on Allen's head and drove him over the edge.

@@dukecraig2402 Thanks for that tale or anecdote about Dale. That woman had it all going on for lead vocal and front-person for a rock band back then......Rossington-Collins, what a great memory musically, but evidently Dale coming on board created a tension and friction between Allen and Gary.....predictable, she looked to be quite the firecracker....and a feast for the male eyes. Frankly, what do you remember or know about the wonderful female backup singers that Ronnie recurited, the Honkettes? They were beautiful, lusty women as I remember, and included Steve Gaines sister, Cassie, as I recall. Who knows how things could have worked out for the original crew if that airplane crash hadn't happened.

Here in 2024, I'm reading that everybody is giving props to every last one of the band except for the late, great Leon Wilkeson, and that needs to change! Brother Leon was one of the greatest 'lead bass' players around, and added a 4th guitar line to everything the band did with his bass. Listen to Paul McC, or Berry Oakley if you wonder what I mean. He wasn't happy playing only 5 notes in a song, he made his 4 strings sing. Listen closely to this song; that's baby faced Leon thumpin' his way into the halls of Rock history, folks, and never forget it! He cheated death twice in his life: once in the Skynyrd plane crash, and once having his throat cut in the tour bus, but he hung in there.

I have a Southern Rock band called Southern Comfort. We cover this and it is soooooo fun to play. At first the cadence of the vocals are a challenge to hit in the right areas of emphasis. But with the harmonies and all the dynamics and tempo changes in the song…. So upbeat which then changes into floaty breakdowns with keyboard twinkles and dreamy vocal harmonies and then rears back into a ripping guitar solo, cowbell and the pounding on the keys…. It’s a unique and rockin song. Can’t wait to play again soon. I need my fix!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Mrs. Rossington i am so very sorry for your loss. You are still the greatest female vocalist i have every seen in my life time. Thank you Dale for sharing Gary with us. My wife and I were lucky enough to meet Gary at the meet and greet in Biloxi before the show. I have a picture standing with him. Over the course of my life i have seen you and Gary perform many times. Around 20 total. The favorites, front row center stage the Woodlands Texas. I brought all my favorite albums. I could see you and Gary both smile when I held up my Rossington Album. I brought my Rossington Colllins albums, Vanzant album, and some Skynyrd stuff. I did not try to get Gary to sign them. I was just trying to convey my appreciation. I saw you both in one week in Florida the first time in Orlando then the show in Tampa. That was awesome. In Orlando, i sat 3rd row on the right side in front of Garyi I never sat down, Johnny threw a bottle of Jack at the flag behind stage pissed, then said clearly. "People don't (insert beep) sit down at Lynyrd Skynyrd shows! Then in Tampa, everyone stood up! Like their supposed to! I was sitted 2nd level stage right. I knew you saw my wife and I because you pointed us or me out to Gary. I'm guessing you said. "Is that the guy who never sat down in Orlando?" Again in Biloxi, i brought my wife and son. It was his 1st Skynyrd show. He was like 13 yo. I bought the best single sit ticket i could find. Row 4 infront of Ricky. He absolutely loved it. Again Biloxi my son with his girlfriend the last time I got to see Billy play. Again in Biloxi 2nd level first row sitting behind you, with my wife. First set was Rossington Collins, you sang this song. Second set was Skynyrd. Mrs. Rossington you were such a good sport. When we got your attention, we signed for you to bring bring Gary over for a solo. You were smiling and laughing! No Gary did not play a solo behind the back round singers. But at some point you pointed us out to him, agian guessing your must of said something along the lines of. Do you know those lunatic? When Gary was headed back on stage that night to play Free Bird. He glanced at us politely smiled gave a small bow, as we cheered and went wild. Dale Rossington you are not a Back Round Singer. Your a star! Thank you just does not feel like enough! But Thank you 100 times is a start.

Can't help but think of Miss Dale over these last weeks. I sure hope she's got lots of friends surrounding here at this time of despair. . . I saw Skynard 3 yrs ago in London Ont but Dale was not there. So sorry I missed her. What a voice! I was lucky enough to catch a good view of Gary though. What a jammer! I feel blessed that I got to see him with the band. He will be missed so much! Thanks for the memories and all the great tunes Gary. We all miss you.

Was lucky enough to see the 1st show at Tennessee theater in Nashville..My girlfriend stuck her high heal in an ex girlfriends head...I felt really bad about that, but a great show none the less. Sorry Rhonda where ever you are.

Interesting version of it with Travis Tritt joining them. The bonus live version on the first RCB album, with Steve Morse sitting in, has always been my favorite. Either way, Dale can sing her ass off. Love it!

Saw RCB in 1981 at the Minneapolis Armory with some high school buddies. It was their inaugural tour for the Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere Tour. We loved Southern RocK in the North, Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Charlie D, Allman Bros....

Rip Billy, Ed and finally Gary. His wife Dale was and still is an excellent frontwoman who has similar talents as Pat Benatar in the late great Ruby Starr. Her coming along sure helped Allen and Gary write some Great Southern rock AOR tunes in the 80s. Actually not real long after they healed up in the plane crash! tunes in the early 80s

Sooooo good! I love this song and you rarely hear it on the radio anymore, even the classic rock stations! Reminds me of warm summer nights hanging with my friends, learning about life and love in the early 80s! Man I miss those days! The world was so simple back then! It’s so wicked and twisted now!

A few items for those unaware: this is not the Rossington Collins Band. This is an early version of the Skynyrd tribute band. This song did not come out in the 70’s. Lastly, this song was not “overlooked.” It got extensive airplay in the Summer of ‘80 when it was released. RIP Allen and Gary.
