Thank you for joining us in another episode.
Today we will discuss car rentals and car purchase.
Being able to purchase a car has been one of our biggest hurdles and we discuss how we have dealt with the car situation right from the beginning since we MOVED to ITALY.
It has been nearly a year since we made the move from AUSTRALIA to ITALY, so we've had many experiences and have learned a lot regarding this topic, and we would love it if you could get something out of our experiences and/or mistakes.

I moved to Italy in July 2014 Bought the house in June, rather unexpectedly as I wasn't really looking for one, I just saw it, wanted it and bought it. It took me 5 days to get residency, one week for the codice fiscale, 10 days for a bank account and a month for national health cover. I waited until the autumn to buy a car as I needed to sell everything back in the UK first, but I did change my driver's licence as soon as I could, so I got that in September. All rather quick. Now I'm just waiting on the questura to give me my citizenship, they've had the paperwork for 3 years now! Get a Panda 4x4, gets you anywhere, any weather.

I spent a month in Molise in October. I normally rent a car but the weekly rate had gone up around 3 times in 2022. So I had to rely on buses to Termoli and Campobasso. They are more frequent and cheaper than in rural areas in the UK. However, it did mean I could only buy what I could carry. No bags of cement or timber for the house. Its good to know you can get by though. Id love an old Panda, they are perfect for the villages. Im not resident though.

An old Panda is my dream. They're hard to come by though, especially the 4WD ones. Prior to getting our IDs we used the bus as well. It wasn't too bad over all, although it did take 3 times as long as a car and made me nauseous LOL. We were surprised how expensive car rentals became over summer! We have a local ferramenta and the guy there was nice enough to deliver paint, the gas bottle and other things we couldn't carry up the hill 😄

I always like watching your videos, you always explain things well, especially with this car rental. Well I am glad you guys got rid of the car so you dont' have the overwhelming cost ongoing. I wonder if there are any major hotels around in your area, they may have services to certain parts of the city certain times of the day, it's worth checking with a near by hotel, maybe you can pay and use there shuttle if they run a regular service to certain points, they may have seasonal shuttle too. Once you meet enough neighbors, they may be going somewhere and they can drop you off and you can taxi or buss back? Also, check car rental for a weekend, I know in some areas, most car rental are used for business and on the weekend the cars are returned and they may have a weekend rate, so maybe every couple of month you can do a weekend rate. Good luck and thank you for sharing.

Hi Christine. With small towns it can be a bit tricky as they tend to be kind of out of the way. But you're right, once you make friends and neighbours most of them will offer you to drop you off or pick you up. Luckily we have a car of our own now so we can continue with buying building materials. Overall it's not too bad if you don't have to carry heavy things, and if you have time.

Hi Steve, yes I've heard that. For what we have read you would need a letter of approval to take a rental car out of the country. The Euro zone is funny in that way. Some things just happen without care about borders and some others that shouldn't be are such a big deal 🤷‍♀️

@rossinniandco
@rossinniandco Жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara, if you have a check passport or residency I think it may be easier for you. In general, people from the EU can purchase a house and a car in Italy. In regards to a house, speak with a NOTAIO that knows that Czech people can purchase realestate here because at the end of the day they will be going through the purchase process with you. Once you have a town in mind, visit the ANAGRAFE office and ask whether you can obtain residency there as a national of an EU member states. With the ANAGRAFE office you register your residential address, they will give you a letter and from then you will do your Carta d'identità request. Make sure you bring your passport (s) and even your birth certificate. As an EU national things should be wayyyy more straightforward for you than what they have been for us. Hope that helps 😀🇮🇹☀️
