So what's going to happen to the previous guy? Any money back?
@rossmanngroup5 жыл бұрын
$0, he said he would consider it with his partner and never heard back. He bought zero materials for counter, and is unwilling to give back a dime of the deposit. There is no point in suing him, since half a dozen others are after him including IRS, NYS department of labor, 2 banks, the Lerner family... I checked my online banking and looked at the stamps on the checks I gave him, they are from a check cashing facility. I speculate he is going to a check cashing place and paying a 3 to 5 percent fee to cash checks rather than actually depositing them in the bank. No one pays five percent fees to cash a five figure check unless having a bank account is out of the question. This tells me he has so many liens on his accounts, that workarounds to ensure he can never be collected on are built into his business model. Any effort to recover money from him is wasted time. He will give back only if guilted into it by the community, but he does not strike me as someone with a strong sense of community, or morality... in my opinion. The best thing I can do is ensure my experience is documented so when you search for his business it is not buried on Google as it was when I initially searched. Forget my opinions or what I have to say: you can see the progress from day 1 to the present, see the speed they worked at, the quality of the job, the quality of the materials. Read a copy of the contract & hear what he had to say when confronted, hear what his own employees had to say about him in day 38, and decide if you want to do business with him yourself. Every potential client of his deserves the opportunity to access these materials quickly upon googling. The link to his bankruptcies & past cases went from nowhere on Google to result 3. The truth has a way of finding its way to the top eventually. I don't mind hastening that process.

Vinyl will get beaten up in the same way. Everything gets beaten up by wear and tear. They both have pro's and con's. The hard wood floor they were laying down would have worked fine, sand it, plug it and put a strong coating, no oil but a hard clear coat, on it. And all you need to do is sand and coat it again in about 10 years or so and it will last forever, literally. Vinyl you have to replace at some point cause that PU coating will be gone at some point.

If you put the wood look alike vinyl you have to apply 2-3 coat of ''wax'' on it. It is not mandatory but if you want it to last and not get scratched ... I used to manage a 24 appartement building and we started to change the parquet floor for this kind of vinyl flooring. At first we were really happy . 1- It looks great 2- Easy to clean 3- Confortable to walk on it 4- Offer a great isolation/sound proofing for the neighbour below. After 2-3 years I started to notice scratches and chairs marks. In some appartements the color had fade (probably due to a strong cleaning product). The only appartement where the floor was still in neat condition is where the tenant had applyed wax on the floor. She did so because she is using a wheelchair and knew that it will damaged it. I dealt with my share of contractors and Paul is right...He will do a really great job, he is organise, his presentation is important to him and he his quote will be higher but for sure this guy is honest and proud. 2:36 - Self leveling on the table again! Can use the product Schönox AP if available. Probably many other products can be used. Must have a laser with a slope function for this project since the floor not will be level and to still get it flat. Would still be better to just use plywood as a filler and then self leveling compound on the top of that. If a 1/2" plywood isn't filling up the void, Styrofoam boards or similar can be placed under the plywood that is fastened with screws. These shims are hard to get in place, and takes a lot of time, and also maybe some luck to get to work - not necessary!

Thank you Louis. It's been a pleasure watching this whole process unfold. I know it must be alot with everything going on in your life right now to record and upload. So thank you because I have got more entertainment out of this series, compared to series they spend millions to produce on tv and Netflix. Funny how that works

You may want to consider running the network/phone cabling in the basement instead. You can bring the cables up through the floor every so often, or have the contractor add a few low voltage network boxes along the walls. This would keep your overall design looking clean by not having wires hanging down the wall and also makes it easier to change the configuration down the road if needed.

Hey Louis, you said no concrete, however, you might try to ask your potential contractors to perlite lightweight concrete. it is used to leveling as far as I know and it might solve at least in some areas your problem

As for cable trays - in my shop I have used PVC pipe cut open down its length with holes inside of pipe where wires need to come out. Another easy way is simply rain gutter . Both ways can hide the wires and can be painted to match the walls.

if you have casters on the workbench chairs, be aware a lot of modern flooring will wear out easily if casters are allowed direct contact. even hardwood snap together flooring only last 2yr. make sure you investigate chair matts strength as well. direct plywood will not work alone either even with rubber casters.

You know why I like this guy? - He's calm. In my experience those who know their business stay calm because they know what they're talking about. They know they can convince you with facts and explain things. On the other side the beguilers get loud and cut in in order to mimic something like authority.

The fact that this guy is confident on video that he obviously knows will be widely viewed is a really good sign. It is understandable if you want to stay somewhat anonymous etc. but when you are on the video like this it would be a huge risk for a scammy business.

I look forward to seeing high wlquality work on this season of Rossmann Realty and Construction.
