Luv the Barras. We stuck a Barra cnversion into an Aus Dodge AT114 truck. (We threw out the 265/4 slot and radiator.) We used the Barra eng, Trans and radiator. Threw out the front cart axle and fitted a modified Triton fr end, BA rack, column, brakes and calipers. Then fitted a 9 inch LSD. Tweeked it to 198KW. Towed an aggregate weight of around 4.5 tonne to Gladstone from Bris. Cruised like a car. Put it in a rally, performed very well for a truck and bloody fast. Unfortunately spat the tailshaft after an altercation with a road obstacle. A low cost home conversion. Engineer complianced. One tuff sleeper truck. ( PS The Barra slotted into the engine bay so well, it looked like a factory fitment) Barra the world. PSS A hair dryer on the horizon? Maybe one day. PSSS With balancing diff ratio and Tyre Diameter, achieved KPH/1000 to within less than 1.5%.No mods in PCM. Used falcon dash. Fun to do, fun to drive.

Don't know how many comments from OZ but owned Fords all my driving life. (From 1978) Owned & own a fair few 351 Clevelands, hotted up a 302W in a 1995 Fairlane plus worked on mates cars for years. Still a petrolhead at heart. Own a 2004 NA Barra Ute (Pick up) which is about 182KW (245HP) with a 5 speed & you cant kill them. I just bought a 2010 Turbo Territory Ghia SUV which is 245KW (325HP) AWD 6 speed ZF auto which weighs 2175kg (4800 lbs) & is good for 15sec 1/4 straight from the showroom floor. A basic tune adds an easy 35kw to 280kw (375hp). If you dont want to go down the turbo path there are heaps of hot up bits for NA engines & it makes them very simple to work on. If you were to put a NA Barra in a light car such as a old school Mustang (65-70) not only would it haul arse (ass) it will give good full economy & last forever. Some taxi's over here, or should I say down under, clock up over a 1,000,000 kms (620,000 miles) before being retired but still running. There are many videos on performance mods to NA engines and they are just easier to work on. If you do want to go down the Turbo path don't buy the whole package. Buy a NA engine which with all the bolt ons (Alternator, power steering pump, etc.) will only set you back $300-$500 AUD ($200-$340 USD) it shipping that will cost more. Get with mates, Facebook friends etc. & buy a container load? The one you want is the later model LPG engine as it comes with the same bottom end & rods as the Turbos. That said the stock later model blocks & internals are still good for heaps of horsepower. Obviously for the best results you will need to lower the comp to about 8.7:1 as oppose to around NA 9.7 - 10.3 depending on the year. Choice of trans is far & wide. NA & low HP turbo could use a T5 or 4 speed BTR auto. When you're pushing out the big HP, TREMEC T56 MAGNUM 6 SPEED or beefed up ZF 6speed. You guys have heaps to choose from over there just need to adapt to the Barra bellhousing. You can run stock ECU (Turbo or NA depending on application) & have it unlocked & tuned but there are many aftermarket ones that will do a better job without needing to hack. Obviously this is just my opinion & I will admit I haven't done any major power modifications to these engines but did heaps of research before I bought the Territory. I was looking at BMW X5's & Mercedes ML500 & AMG63 (2007-2009) model but bang for buck, ease of working on, availability & cost of parts is why I chose the Territory with a Barra. Great engine, have fun.

It's a pity that the US didn't see that when they got a few territories to test I remember reading a quote saying that where the best SUV Ford made at the time. Just like the wagon never what the ute got which was essentially the same platform. Ford could've had a huge market share but now it's just to late 5yrs+ for our local manufacturing. We invent some great things that the world catches on to late like these days even the range that was designed by Australia for Australia is built in south Africa $$$ 😔
@351tgv3 жыл бұрын
Ford USA did have the Taurus SHO with AWD, 3.5L V6 Twin Turbo which made 272kW and 475Nm from the factory spec, it was FWD bias AWD (so nots as much fun as a standalone RWD like the Falcon) and a lot more heavier at around 2,100kg kerb weight, also way back in previous generation Taurus versions Ford did have the 4.4L "Yamaha" 32-valve QOHC V8 (which was used by Volvo also for the XC90 SUV and the Volvo S60 V8 Supercar), so it's not like Ford USA did not do 4-door or fast SUV versions like Falcon and Territory, there was also the Fusion (re: sedan version of the liftback Mondeo) 2.7L V6 Twin Turbo AWD but apparently that was not that quick.

Haha great video but LS the world!! Be careful wishing the same for the barra. Do you know what happened to the prices of GTRs when the yanks were allowed to import them? I was kicking myself coz I always wanted a R34 and I'm priced out of that market now. I like the barra staying down south and cheap. Or like you said go to the wreckers and stock up on them then go make some cash when then Americans come and buy every last one of them.

Over here we have the 2jz-gte and LS everything. But no RB and Barra. But RB is staring to get traction as in importing them. So I love all those engines. LS the world 2jz the world Barra the world RB the world hands down greast engines in the world. Did you know a stock block I mean stock LS 4.8 or even a 5.3 the baby small blocks completely stock can make 1500hp. Think about that completely stock has been done countless times. So imagine just putting a set of rods and pistons in an LS and up the fuel and it will make so much more. Let that sink in. What is another engine that you know completely stock block and internals and all make 1500hp?
