For the vocal performance, these need to be level matched a little better for a fair comparison. The volume jump on the Colares will immediately trick listeners into preferring it. Also, some care needs to be taken with clipping and gain staging.

No one's going to talk about the audio tracks clipping on the vocal racks and the bass? You clearly hear digital distortion at 7:48 and 8:15 on the bass. It's not the mic cable.

Love this comparison video. Been thinking of getting the Colares next, cause I use their k47 on like, everything. Just gotta save up the dough.

Very nice comparison. Excellent work!

Both sound great -- smooth and buttery. Seems each would work better on different sources and that you couldn't go wrong with either. I might personally start with the Delphos only because the Colares seemed to add a tiny bit of compression (probably from the transformer).

Great comparison, Czar! The low mids of the Colares and added mouth noise got a little distracting for me on the vocals. Otherwise, I agreed with you completely. I liked the Delphos better, because it sat in the mix better for me. Both sounded really great on her voice. I agree on the acoustic. The Colares seemed more dynamic, but the Delphos just sits better, with its more neutral character. I am literally shopping these, along with the ADK T-Fet 67, and Lauten Clarion. So, your timing is perfect! :) So far, I am leaning Delphos for a one mic, do everything solution. I'd love to hear if you've had any experience with the other mics I mentioned. Cheers!

I do not have any experience with the ADK. I was very close to getting the Clarion, but chose the Miktek C7 instead.
@GTRJohnny665 жыл бұрын
@@TheAudioCzar I was directed to the C7, as well. How do you find that compares to the Delphos for general use (vocals and acoustic guitar)?
@TheAudioCzar5 жыл бұрын
The C7 is thicker in lows and is noticeably brighter

hi Czar, how does the Delphos take processing? I'm really eyeing it because all raw vocals i have heard with it are great but final mixes are not available to ascertain. Could you please link me to a fully finished track you used it to record?

This was just released and recorded with the Delphos II. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ2yn4OaqqZsb6c Also search the Fortunate Few the Rock Opera. The male vocals on A family, and the lead vocals on the fortunate few were recorded on Delphos II. Hang On was recorded with the Colares. both mics are all over that album. Most of male vocals on there are Delphos though.

another vote for the delphos 2
@johnsweda29995 жыл бұрын
Yes I think I agree with you analysis! but the delphos 2, just how you had it mic up, she sounded distant thin what you call dark, did you experiment with different positions of the mic and how close it was as well to the singer, I feel if it was closer or hi gain or both you might have got a better result. I'm assuming both mics had the same gain output when doing the experiment.

Excellent comparison Czar! Especially the female vocals. I am curious though how the Colares on the clean setting (pad engaged) would compare to the Delphos. It seems to be a major feature on that microphone but strangely enough rarely demonstrated. The ability to lessen the second order harmonics of the mic should make it a lot more versatile and set it closer to the Delphos disregarding the aspect of the difference in voicing of course.
@TheAudioCzar5 жыл бұрын
Actually on the bass and electric guitar the pad is engaged. I was getting so much harmonics it was distorting on those
@henrikpetersson34635 жыл бұрын
No doubt! It seems quite sensitive so putting it on an amp without the pad would be more than it could take I imagine. I was more curious on how it performed in clean mode as a vocal mic though.

I have a Colaris, but would like a Delphos as well… but that’s more money than I can spend on a mic at the moment.

Just keep saving, you'll get there

I like the mic videos but it’s hard to tell with reverb on the vocals. Dry vocal takes would be good. Cheers!!

Most Diaphragms on Condenser Mic's are on the sides, not the top. I can't understand how people could not notice the difference in sound...
@henrikpetersson34635 жыл бұрын
Daniel M Connolly If you are talking about the mic he is using for voice-over, then he is using it correctly. The top is where he is supposed to speak into.

They both sound really good! Coretta King can blow!!! The Delphos is a little darker, and the Colares is a lil brighter! But they both sound amazing on her voice but the Colarea works better on her voice. I actually like the Delphos on the electric guitar a little better!
