Best demo ever. Mic sounds sooo good. Im tying to choose between the mini k67x and the mini k87. May just have to to go for this one. PS. There will be a documentary about your tape measure one day.😂

Haha. Thanks! Imagine a documentary about my tape measure. Hahahaha. So it’s between the two mics. Well let me help you decide. The K67x has a beefy transformer inside. It creates beautiful saturation that is incredibly colorful. If you’re looking for a mic that has character (harmonic distortion), and is dark and warm, the K67x is your guy. However, if you’re looking for an incredibly clear and transparent mic, that rounds all sounds and all frequencies, that smooths out the high end and almost completely removes shrill and sibilant frequencies, but has a very tight and robust low end, then the K87 is your guy. The K87 is like an album mic. Sounds like a vinyl record album in its roundness. The 67x is a gritty but warm 60s mic. Hope this helps!

From one captain to another, so glad you hooked up with Roswell I’ve been avoiding mid priced large diaphragm condensers leaning toward high end dynamics and ribbons for my vocals and acoustic guitar work. After considerable research, I recently grabbed a mini k67x and I love it! I have sibilance problem just shy of 5k and the mini k67x has a little EQ notch just where I need it. The transformer gives me some nice smooth character and it’s dead quite to boot. I used it on my latest release “Hate Is a Fire” Thanks for confirming my assement Welcome back!

I love things that are much better than their price. You know they could charge more for it, but choose not to. What a company. I'll take the metallic blue. I started listening to Art Bell just for his amazing voice. Then I realized what he was talking about, but through a paradigm formed by radio hosts that would preface his show about to come on their station by sarcastically saying "...the UFO people...." Then I realized Art gave all these people a platform to feel comfortable to talk about these things......and this way even if only 10% of the people were for real, they were able to come forward and we could hear some amazing stuff. Also, Art respected everyone that came on the show and asked them questions with the utmost seriousness. We were all given the opportunity to decide for ourselves if what they were talking about was real. My favorite was a guy who talked about the Philadelphia Experiment in far "too much" detail to not be real. I still listen to Coast to Coast on my way home from work, but its not the same without Art.

In the past, as you may know, I've been really upset with you for only reviewing stellar mics, instead of crummy, rotten, stinky mics like some other reviewers, where I was completely safe in not having to spend a dime. But here we go again. What to do, I asked myself. Okay, you win, but only because I am getting a weekend job to augment my regular job to pay for every thing you review. I told my wife I'll see her at night, as I will never be home on the weekends again. I'm also building an extension on my house to display all my TPS-reviewed mics behind glass cases, as my wife demanded that I get them out of our bed. I can't wait to display my STAM SA-87i when it arrives in August. So, you beat me, but I'm rising to the challenge!

It’s a great live sound solution. These days I’m using a Grace M101 and also a DIYRE Colour Duo preamps. The compression is all done in the box. I don’t do live. But it’s a great entry point into outboard gear! That is, of course, if the 286s is what you’re talking about. Haha.

For VO work clean is sometimes preferred but not always. If I was to pick a first mic for VO, between them, I’d pick the 4100 because it’s clean. The Mini K67x has growl and character. I’d get that one next. It’s good to have both available for jobs.

@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist Ай бұрын
Yes. It is rather rolled off. Classic sounding. I like that. No I didn’t do a video about the restoration efforts. At the time I was losing my mind and trying to get it all repaired and replaced as soon as possible and never thought to video the procedure. But I’ll tell you this: I’ve raised everything off the floor. Everything. If ever I have another flood, nothing will be destroyed. All cabling. All amps. Even all my guitar pedals have been raised off the floor.
@RoswellProAudio
@RoswellProAudio Ай бұрын
Here's the best way to make a mic that is flat past 15kHz: boost the 8-10kHz response by 6dB. Once you remove the sonic ice pick from your eardrum, you'll savor that smooth 20kHz fade, unless you're older than 13, in which case not so much. More seriously, the Mini K67x is not "rolled off" in the sense that we're filtering the top end. Compared to the U87 Ai (USD $3500), the Mini K67x has 7dB more output @ 15kHz. To be clear, both are rolling off in that frequency range, because large diaphragm capsules generally all roll off somewhere between 10k and 12kHz. The capsule we made for this mic, which is nominally a K67 but unlike every other K67 we've ever tested does not need circuit EQ to control the 10kHz response, has a smoother top end with a more gradual rolloff. The. U87 Ai has a more aggressive HF rolloff than the Mini K67x, Mini K87, Delphos II, Colares, and Aztec. Said another way, this mic is much less rolled off above 15kHz than most other LDCs, with the exception of those that are really hyped and harsh, although by the time you've de-essed and EQ'd those, they have no air left anyway.

In what measurable way better than the NT1?
@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist 29 күн бұрын
In extraordinarily measurable ways. It’s got a high quality transformer inside the mic. This causes a wonderful harmonic saturation. It’s also less harsh. Also much easier to work with in a music mix. The NT1 is relatively flat and unremarkable - which is sometimes what one might be after - while the Mini K67x is full of warmth and character. All of this is measurable. Hope this helps!
@BojanBojovic
@BojanBojovic 29 күн бұрын
@@TheRecordistBasically it is nothing technical but you simply like it more. Fair enough, thanks.
@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist 29 күн бұрын
@@BojanBojovic it is 100% technical. The NT1 has no transformer. The components are subpar. The body is thinner and has a resonance. The sound is thinner and 2D. The NT1 is made in a factory line by robots. The Mini K67x is hand made. This is all technical stuff. That’s why I said there are some situations where the NT1 would be more desirable (if choosing between them). For example, if you were doing an audiobook narration, flat and unremarkable would be more desired. But if you were doing a radio ad, a colorful mic might be better. To be clear, it’s not just that I like it better. There are legitimate measurable differences.
