Rotameter is a device used to measure the flow rate of a fluid in a closed pipe. It consists of a tapered tube with a float inside, and it works on the principle of the variable area flow meter.
When fluid flows through the rotameter, it enters the tapered tube at the bottom, and the float rises upwards with the increasing flow rate. The float reaches a height where the buoyancy force equals the gravitational force, and it remains in equilibrium. The height of the float is directly proportional to the flow rate of the fluid.
The tapered tube is calibrated, and the flow rate is measured by reading the height of the float against the calibrated scale. The scale is usually marked in units of volume per unit time, such as liters per minute or gallons per hour.
Rotameters are simple, low-cost, and easy to install, and they require no external power source. They are relatively unaffected by changes in temperature, pressure, or viscosity. However, they have limited accuracy and are not suitable for measuring low flow rates or fluids with high viscosity or low density.

Thanks for the video. however, in Rotameter the gravitational and the buoyant forces are always constant. what makes the float reach the equilibrium is the drag force when reaching a constant velocity which only happens if the area changes.
