eh.digital/2PuPWRw - Illustration of the ultrasonic flow measuring principle.
Using ultrasonic waves, the flow volume of a wide variety of gases and liquids can be measured reliably - independent of electrical conductivity, pressure, temperature or viscosity.
Endress+Hauser's ultrasonic flowmeters provide a versatile and economical flow measurement of gases and liquids up to a nominal diameter DN 4000. Inline ultrasonic sensors are used in applications that require traceable and guaranteed accuracy. Clamp-on ultrasonic sensors are installed on the outer wall of the pipe and thus also enable temporary measurements or a retrofitting.

Many thanks for all videos. Is it possible to create one video that covers the application of each flow and pressure gauging device, like which one is suitable for each particular application? also if videos incorporate the simplest version of an algebraic equation that relates flow/temp with the depending variable. transit time for instance in ultrasonic flow meter.
@endresshauser
@endresshauser 7 жыл бұрын
@Zeeshan Uddin, we deliberately did not include equations in our animations, as these videos want to give a very general explanation of the respective measuring principles. Creating one video explaining which instrument is applicable for which application would result in a very long and very complicated video. Therefore we have no such plans. But we have quite a few nice tools which help you to select the right device. Check out our website or contact your local sales office. www.endress.com/en

I enjoyed the video. I have a question. Looking at the path that ultrasound crosses, it seems to pierce the wall twice in the middle. By the way, can ultrasound penetrate a blocked wall? My experiment showed that ultrasound couldn't penetrate the wall. So I wonder if ultrasound can pass through obstacles.
@endresshauser
@endresshauser Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. This animation features both ultrasonic technologies - inline and clamp-on. In the case of clamp-on technology and a two-path installation (as shown in the animation), the signal is reflected off the inner pipe wall and directed to the other sensor. In this process, part of the signal is lost due to penetration into the pipe wall (not visible in this animation). However, penetration into the pipe wall only occurs where the sensors are positioned in order to send and receive the ultrasonic signals.

Does it need to be calibrated for a specific density first?
@endresshauser
@endresshauser 3 жыл бұрын
The measuring principle is generally independent of the fluid density, however the density correlates to the sound velocity of the fluid. This will effect the positioning of the clamp-on meter impacting the accuracy. For inline process meters changing density has no effect on performance. So, the meter does not need to be calibrated with a specific density fluid for process measurement. However for “high accuracy” inline meters used for billing (custody transfer) they are often calibrated on specific density oils to improve performance with changing flow profile.

Are the sensors in physical contact with the liquid
@endresshauser
@endresshauser 5 жыл бұрын
It depends if you are using an ultrasonic clamp on meter such as the proline Prosonic 93 the sensors are NOT in contact with the liquid. If you are using an inline meter such as the Proline Prosonic B 200 the sensors are in contact with the liquid.

does this work if the flow doesn't cover the whole cross section of the conduit ?
@seanbeeker4980
@seanbeeker4980 5 жыл бұрын
From one of our Product Managers: The meter will still provide a measurement in a partially filled pipe, but it won’t hold to the accuracy spec. The volumetric flow rate is established by combining all the flow velocities determined by the transducers, along with the cross-sectional area of the meter body.

wait.. since the sensors are inclined .. how does the signal both in upstream and downstream reach the other sensors?
@endresshauser
@endresshauser 6 жыл бұрын
By design of the sensors and proper positioning it is made sure the sound beam always hits the opposite sensor.
@animals42life8

is it because the wave speed is much much much much faster than the water speed?
@endresshauser
@endresshauser 6 жыл бұрын
Mainly it is because of emission angle, deflection when entering material with different density (pipe wall, fluid, pipe wall) and corresponding positioning of the sensor set.

Yes, you can use a flow conditioner or you can install the meter further away from what is causing the flow disturbance.
