Good tip! As with many things in quilting there are more than one way to do things. I start by putting the cutter at the base of the ruler, press down to cut through the fabric, roll blade back off the fabric then cut forward completing the cut.

Thanks for explaining so understandably, as always, V! What also helped me a lot was the following tip I saw in some video, where the lady explained, that sometimes you might stand in the wrong position to your ruler, especially if you intend to make these long cuts over the entire width of your fabric. She suggested to imagine you were bowling, meaning: Stand in front of your ruler, not in front of the fabric part you want to cut, and maneuver your ruler hand NEXT to your body, not in front of it. This „standing in my own way“ often has lead to the rotary cutter skipping some parts, although I was using brand new blades, because my entire body gave the cutter a bad angle, preventing it from cutting properly. I am pretty new to quilting, but ever since I keep the bowling motion in mind, I get a lot better results and achieve to cut my fabric at the first attempt.

I Vanessa I'm wondering what about the rest of the cuts that don't cut sometimes I am part way through a cut and it hasn't cut and I don't know it until I think I'm finished another words I roll my cut I think it's a good cut and there are little spots in the middle that won't cut it all what about that , thank you Vanessa have a blessed day

Kathleen Champ Someone taught me to only use 60mm blades except when I’m cutting a single layer or around a tight curve. I’m new to quilting and this has helped me

Question - what do you think the problem is if you seem to "jump" in the center of a piece of fabric when you aren't cutting all the way through? Bent blade? trash underneath?
