rotary encoder is a very useful component which sometimes is wrongly called digital volume or digital potentiometer.
This little component informs every CW or CCW rotations of its handle to our system by digital signals and often used for selecting something.
In this video, we will discuss about different types, take it apart and take a deep look at its mechanism and we will test it and find the best way to interface it with any MCU.
If you turn it's handle you will sense the steps on your fingers, like when you turn stepper motor’s shaft. This device should detect every movement and turning steps and direction of rotation and has a hidden push button as additional feature.
This module has five pins, two of them are for power the module up, one of them is for push button and two remaining are for rotation signals.
There is two resistors for pulling signal pins up and they are necessary for interfacing this device with MCUs.
