I believe the spacing is different on the 12A housings 79-80 and 81+ I’d have to measure again. Good video BTW

I will measure and check. Ill pin your comment and add to the description. Looks close by eye. Thanks!!!!

@@RADPotential no problem brother, i have seen them used same with mismatched 13b ones on carbureted engines. So they will run I think for something with a lot of HP that requires fine tuning, then it would be an issue. I still don’t like to miss match them but that’s just me. I dig the videos brother! Kiddos on the channel.

Thank you sir!! For sure any high rpm NA or boosted application matching is important. Id never build one that didn't match unless it was the night before a race or something and thats all I could get

Great video! Ever use a fine knife grinding stone to remove slight imperfections in a rotor housing chrome?

I'll be using old school housings with fc plates for my build. Nothing a little jb weld in the coolant grooves on the housings can't fix
@josega6338 Жыл бұрын
Diffuser in exhaust port was to reduce noise, small holes are for injecting air into the exhaust port area, you know.

I have 2 good rear housings for an rx8 and 2 average front housings with grooves 2mm from the edge. Can I use a rear housing for the front to make a good engine.

Is there a difference in bolt pattern between 12a, 13b, and Rx8 13b. Could 4 port 12a irons bolt to a Rx8 13b housings.
@RADPotential4 жыл бұрын
Yes they could. People have used gslse housings in rx8 engines.

a housing with one chip 5 mm x 5 mm on the intake portion, too much or ok for a rebuild ?

What's the minimum for the width? I have some plates that have been machined allitle and the coolant seal groves are looking pretty shallow now....is there a measurement for this? I no you can get seal groove ground out deeper for people that do it

I’ve seen 13b housings new online. Are these not legit?

If you can find new old stock ones they are. I don't think mazda is reproducing them. Maybe for the FD and RX8

Hey great vid. I have a question I have a fb gsl all stock I have a s5 13b Street ported I wanted to swap with a carb is this swap worth it?
@RADPotential4 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure!!! I have a video about 13b swapping a FB rx7. That motor will probably double the power in your car! High compression S5 NA is the ticket

Can housings be reliability re-conditioned or re-chromed? (Watched the video and got my answer: no.)

I do not have any experience with them being re chromed. I usually just try to find better used housings. If there was a cost effective way...id know about it

@@RADPotential i just bought a set of carbons for my 12a cause they were cheaper than decent steel ones. Plus i wanna rev the piss outta my engine and not hurt it. Just was thinking if i wanna grab a set of s5 that has been milled and grooved to make new 12a housings or if i needed to
@RADPotential4 жыл бұрын
The larger exhaust port from the 13b housing will benefit you as a 12a exhaust port is tiny. Otherwise I dont know enough about your apex seal to comment on its longevity or its friction life along the housing surface

I’m building a 12a engine I have 13 b with 12a housings is there any benefit to using 13b
@RADPotential4 жыл бұрын
13b 4 port irons are basically the same as 12a irons with regard to port size and intake manifold options. If you're talking about ditching the 12a stuff. You can use the 13b irons and just build a 13b. Bit more power and torque. But you will need 13b housings, rotors. Eshaft. Exhaust intake. Etc.
@jengon22694 жыл бұрын
RAD Potential I have some six port irons just wanted to se if I can get more from the 12a than using the 12a irons
@RADPotential4 жыл бұрын
Id use the 12a irons. The 6port irons won't work because of the coolant grooves and you would need a custom intake manifold

Fine! But it was proven that Nikasil is better under any comparative criteria to hard chrome plating for Wankel housing Working surface. But it's not easy finding someone to replate with Nikasil a Wankel, even if several companies offer nikasil replating for two-stroke and 4-Stroke cylinders in Europe. With non-Mazda engines, the situation is close to impossible, perhaps in Germany someone makes replating of Sachs Wankel RCE housings with nikasil, for OMC, nobody knows.

I'm a master engine builder. Way older then this kid. The reality of working with an rx 8 is not to use it as your primary vehicle. If you have alot of mechanical skill the cheapest way to make a mazda drive able is to put an old school small block 350 or 383 in it, carberated. Treat the car like your building an old t bucket. Replace the Guage with regular old school Guage from a 59s to 80s car. Tear out the computer controller parts in the car and treat it like an old school hot rod with a newer body. Bloodviking
