@@ShadowFri3nd straight up too good
@nicholasperkins4655
@nicholasperkins4655 5 жыл бұрын
@@zrspangle not exactly. Racing leagues set rules based on engine volume among other things, and the hp/volume for a wankel is much greater than for any other piston engine. That creates an unfair advantage for other engines which they try to incorporate into racing as many types as possible. It's perfectly fine to race with a V8 vs an inline 6 or Boxer 6 in certain leagues as long as the volume has the same limit. Allowing rotaries would pretty much throw that equality out the window. Everyone would use rotary and it technically would be bad for car companies because they wouldn't have incentive to test their consumer car engine on a track. It would overall create a bad car culture in terms of providing data for consumer engines. I love the wankel engine. It is a genius concept but because it is too inefficient( unless mazda makes a miracle with a skyactive 10 wankel) and doesn't pass current EPA standards, allowing it in races would severely hurt the engineering car companies use for regular consumers. The race track is not just a competition but also a science experiment.

my buddies working on his dream car.. an 80's "z car" he got for 75usd "if you can remove it today" the engine was so blown, it wasnt just blown... it was in 6-7 chunks after we unbolted all the stuff that was still holding the lock togather, pistons/cylanders wedged at angles... just true 'how the hell did they do this'.... a shop in the portland area know for mazda and nissan and similar cars bough the engine off him after hearing about it..they actually traded him some nice parts he needed, hes putting a custom tranny he got after it was rebuilt but the original owner had a stroke and died before picking it up, and his son, didnt want to spend more then buying a pick-n-pull tranny to get it working again... the tranny is uniq and nice, 3 reverse gears, first is fast, faster then normal, 2nd is slower but higher torque, and the 3rd is "i need to use this AMC Eagle Wagon to pull that large fishing boat up this steep fucking ramp" (what im told it was in back then anyway), hes got a custom kit on order...hes still months out on the cue he got into just before cv19 started up, it will make mounting the rx7 engine in the z car(the one with the 2 removable t top/sun roof/wtfe panels over each seat and is iconic as hell for anybody in my age bracket), piss easy, same for the tranny adaptor kit, hes said i will be the first non-family member to drive it once its done... mostly because i helped him find alot of info showing, its been done and can be done.... oh, the tranny has 6 forward gears as well as the 3 reverse, just damn nice....

I love my RX-8 and when I take it to shows it usually does get a few comments about it being a rotary, which makes me happy! I will never forget this young kid who freaked out when he saw it. My cars no show car and needs some pretty massive paint work, but he was very excited to see the car. It's nice to see the next generation still holding on to the excitement that a rotary engine causes. One guy was explaining to his wife who clearly was into cars, how the engine in my car works, and when she was finished her eyes lit up and she was talking about how cool and unique it was.

The main reason why a rotary engine will never be efficient is the combustion chamber designed this is the main reason and then you have seal problems the Apex seal is your main compression seal. The only reason the RX rotary engines cane popular was the high RPMs they would turn. I used to be the main tune up for a business that worked on rotary Mazda if it didn't turn a certain RPM it went back to see what was still wrong. We used to make our own custom plug wires at that time because nobody had the quality we use nothing but Belgium plug wire I literally would make a whole set of wires in less than 15 minutes. It was a fun job. I always had a vehicle ready at 10:00 to test drive down to McDonald's and get a couple hamburgers and a coke with McDonald's made real food, course disrespect in the late seventies early eighties.

A friend that was part of an RX7 club told me to put an ounce of trans fluid into the engine through the upper spark plug holes once a week(if it sat longer than 24 hours it would sometimes lose compression) after that I was able to get a few more years of use out of it. How to have a reliable rotary engined vehicle: Step one; basic regular maintenance like any other car, just stay on top of it. Step 2; regular beatings are required, unlike piston engines that can’t maintain high rpm for long periods of time and have to be babied to actually last, rotarys are the opposite. They literally do not care how hard you beat on them. Step 3; premix, research it, understand why it’s beneficial. It’s not required, but it helps. Step 4; in the event of apex seal failure, look for the root cause. The apex seal did not cause the failure (nor have they ever during their entire production run with Mazda), something external to the engine failed, address and fix it preferably before catastrophic failure occurs) and keep brapping. Step 5; realize that you are driving a sports car and not some shit beater Honda and maintenance of the car (besides the engine) will be elevated and parts will cost more in most cases. As someone that relies on, daily drives and only owns two rotary powered vehicles (1980 SA22C and 2010 RX-8 R3) I can confidently say that they are absolutely reliable and dependable as daily A to B cars (so long as you’re not a total moron). They aren’t perfect and not as cheap to own as many other cars, but they are very fun and worth every penny you put into them (although you will never ever see those pennies again).

Suzuki built a rotary motorcycle, the RE5, but they didn't trust their mechanics to work on it. The repair procedure was to pull the engine, place it in a wooden crate, ship it to Japan, and await return. There is a small cult following for the bike online now, which is pretty cool.

One thing to note about Wankel rotaries is that they do have some applications outside of cars where they are absolutely awesome. One thing a rotary can do that a piston engine has a lot more trouble doing is running full bore for hours on end. Without pistons slamming back and forth, you can just redline the suckers forever. This makes the wankel awesome for prop planes where the engine load is high and continuous for long stretches. They also work great as small, high output generators so they're certainly not dead but in cars, smooth revving and high rpm is mostly a luxury. Quick bursts of power from piston engines is all you need.

Wankel engines are obsolete because they have no advantages. I test drove an RX-8 once for about a few minutes, and it was awesome. If I was to get one, it'll be the R3. I love the way it looks, the way it handles, and of course the way it sounds. I'm looking forward to see what Mazda does with their Wankel engines outside the range extenders

If the FIA didn’t ban them, team Mazda could have used the racing money to solve most big problems

They didn't ban them, they had a rule going into effect the year after that increased engine displacement, it was in the works before the 787 even competed. I thought the same thing, it makes a much better story.

I bought a RX8 when I was 16 years old. Had no idea what I was buying then but slowly learned to work on the 13b. Absolutely love it and will keep the car forever. Bought the car for $3500 and have put over $10k in performance parts and have done 2 rebuilds. Lol

Should be firing it up on the stand within the next day or so, he was waiting a fair while for it to be built and shipped from New Zealand. He said he wants it ready for sema I'm pretty sure, and he's got the other guy working on the car.
