Awesome video. A couple years ago I bought a used Rotary SPOA9 and installed it in my shop. I spent a LOT of time making sure the columns were plumb, level, and square. I have learned a lot about lifts since having this one and don’t know how I would live without it.
@Balenza345 Жыл бұрын
This lift is only suitable for cars and pick ups. The pipes and cables should be on the floor. On the top means you can't put a large van on this lift. So I would never buy this type of lift.

Weird watching this...back in 99 I bought a SPO9 9000 lb, Asy 2 post for 2695.00 delivered from the factory. Me and my son installed it. Only issue I ever had was to replace the spotting dish as it rotted out. Never an issue from day one...best tool I ever purchased. Back then everyone I spoke to mentioned, get a Rotary...it's the Cadillac of lifts.

I have the same lift. Picked it up from the Rotary factory in Madison IN the summer of 2020. When picking up my diesel super duty I put supplemental jack stands on the ends. So much of the long wheelbase trucks is out past the arms you can make it “rock” when wrenching on it. I had to shim my base plates also and injected epoxy under the baseplate. That may not be mandatory, but I fell better knowing there is close to 100% support under the column baseplate.
@G5Ckxew Жыл бұрын
In the fine print of the instructions they say to pack non-shrink grout under the columns but I prefer your epoxy idea.

Nicely done with this video how did you hook up the overhead shut off switch and did you have to drill holes to install the electrical box inside the column ? Thanks
@MasterJacks2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sorry about that. The overhead does wire inline with the power supply so that it can cut power when activated. The instructions show how the wiring is to be done. I did drill a hole to mount my electrical box within the column.
@perme8media29214 күн бұрын
You can drill a junction box to the column or route conduit overhead to the ceiling, but always make sure there is a disconnect close by if you need to work on the lift power unit so you don’t have to climb onto a ceiling

Nice video. I just installed my used Mowhawk lift last weekend. Did Rotary mention anything about using epoxy with the anchors?? I used it with mine
@MasterJacks8 ай бұрын
That'll be a sweet lift. Rotary didn't have anything about epoxy for the anchor bolts, but I know there's benefit to it in certain applications.
@perme8media29214 күн бұрын
Unless you anchor into a slab, that doesn’t have the adequate amount of inches, none of that adhesive is needed. Those anchors won’t fail.
@dcm123882 жыл бұрын
Drill your holes all the way through the slab so if you have to move it you can hammer the studs flat

Thanks for the excellent video. I am in the process of selecting a lift and I am trying to determine the type and how much room I need for it. I am just curious how you decided between a symmetric and an asymmetric lift. Also can you please share how you determined the position of the lift within the bay and how big your bay is? The trucks seem very close to the door. Does this cause you any issues? Would you position the lift in the same place if you were to do it again? Thanks so much.
@MasterJacks10 ай бұрын
Good questions. The shop is 30' deep. It is 13'-1" from my closed overhead door to the center of the lift columns. This favors more room in front of the lift for my bench, mezzanine, room to work, positioning cherry picker, etc. I've had long-box crewcab pickups on it without trouble closing the door. In my opinion, there's more versatility with vehicle positioning with the symmetrical lift and three stage arms. The rotary rep recommended I go with the symmetrical lift when I told him I wasn't interested in any arm deflection and being comfortable under vehicles at the upper end of the 10k rating. I also have a new (2023) bendpack 10k lift. I like it too (especially for the price), but the rotary is better. It lifts faster, the motor is more conveniently positioned, the profile and footprint are smaller (just as beefy), and it has more teeth on the arms (arm positioning), and I love the 3-stage telescoping arms. They both do everything I need them to, just prefer the rotary (but man they're expensive!) Both lifts came with instructions for positioning within the bay for maximum usability. Enjoy shopping, I'm sure you'll love whatever you buy!
@andrewsnider409810 ай бұрын
@@MasterJacksThanks for your reply. The number of teeth for adjusting the arms isn’t something that I had considered. I better do some more research on the lifts. Take care.
@perme8media29214 күн бұрын
Rotary and challenger are the best lifts out there but they are mainly for commercial use. There are a couple other brands like forward and Manitowoc that are greatly built and you can get parts to repair them. It depends on what you’re lifting up and how often and whether you have the ceiling clearance and slab clearance are used 7000 pound rotary is ideal for home use
@44TylerJustin2 жыл бұрын
I install these daily for my job and can’t tell you how many times rotary has made one small mistake that has fucked us over. My buddy and I spent all day at Land Rover/jaguar installing two spoa10 standard black lifts then right at the end they had bent the carriage near the hole for the pin to hold the arms in place so we couldn’t finish the job and had to call them to get a replacement carriage, and that’s just one story of many. Either they are missing small parts or something on the lift itself is bent.
@jgs17032 жыл бұрын
You should have the customer contact rotary directly and they would have sent someone out to install the new carriage. Its a warranty issue.
@G5Ckxew Жыл бұрын
I have a hunch that Rotary has a problem with workers. My SPOA10 Shockwaves had over a 6-month delivery backlog and the price is more than double what it was 3 years ago. I don't even want to think about what I'll have to deal with if I need support.

Hey about the power hookup. Does your main wire goes in the overhead limit switch before going to the power unit? And how is it wired?
@MasterJacks Жыл бұрын
I'm no electrician, so take it for what it's worth. You run one of your 240v hot legs through the overhead switch on the way down to the power unit. I mounted a box on the upper column and brought my power into it. From there I ran the black wire over to the limit switch, through the switch, back to the box, then both power legs and the ground leg from the junction box down to the unit. Hope that helps!

In my case it was lowered from the semi with a liftgate. We used a forklift to get it from the road to the shop. If you had a hard surface the whole way, I'm sure a pallet jack would do fine.

Poorly done. Wasted moves on assembly, improper assembly procedures, failure to read the instructions and follow them. Poor way to install EQ Cables and hydraulic hoses, messy and poor way to bleed cylinders. Overhead height limit box installed incorrectly to the bar...just not wrong position but improperly mounted.... read the instructions.... Instructions give you exact measurements for setting width of the overhead crossmember.....this video documents all the reasons a professional should install your lift. The only positive comment is at least you measured for off plane column mounting.

At almost,$10,000 you can get almost three Benpack lifts. I have to be completely honest here, both lifts terrific. But at one third the price I would highly recommend a cheaper lift. You will never know the difference. Cheers

@@albertsautodiagnosticsllc2130 if your cycling the lift multiple times a day that might be the way to go. Most home shops probably don’t cycle the lift but 4 times a month. You can buy a decent lift for under $3000, that will last a homeowner 30 years.

Pardon me if the info was in the video and I missed it, but what model no. of this 10k lift was featured. AND. Is it a symmetrical or asymmetrical configuration?
@MasterJacks2 жыл бұрын
It's the SPO10. I ordered it with 3-stage arms and a 2' height extension. This is the symmetrical model. It handles heavier loads better, and in my opinion, is more versatile. The 3-stage arms are the same ones they use on the 12k models, so they're beefier, but have great range (from short to long).

1/2 inch of shims in one place is not a thing unless you are not willing to buy longer anchors you didnt explain that at all. Also always use 10000 psi grout when raising a column above 1/16 inch. Rotary baseplates tend to “oil can” when raised only by shim. Hydraulic cylinder sits in the middle of the anchors/ shims. Most hoist companies will install residential for a flat fee of 600 plus materials like grout or electrical
