Haute tarentaise valley, French alps. I’m American with no family connections to the country and I work as a shepherd year round here. My office has killer views and on clear days I can see Italy. I was touched by the rich pastoral culture and feel incredibly thankful to have been given this opportunity. Last summer was my first estive! Can’t wait for next year. Every shepherd has his/her own way of doing things and I love watching these videos to help me learn.

I'm from central Indiana. What I want to tell you is seeing the landscape in this video made the hair on my arms stand up! It also brought tears to my eyes - such incredibly beautiful scenery. Did it make you feel this way in real life? So happy you had this incredible experience.
@theShepherdess23 күн бұрын
YES. It was actually hard to take in all the scenery in real life... truly awesome and almost overwhelming. I'm glad I was able to film it and re-live/share it through these videos!

Love what you are doing 😍 Have always believed in the regenerative way of farming. That is how I grew up on the farm. Due to age and health issues we had to sell our sheep and goats. Miss them, was always nice to snuggle with them. We down sized animal wise to chickens.

Two questions: What would Lennart do if in the tops of the mountains and an early blizzard storm rolls in? Also, what do the guard dogs eat? Does Lennart carry up dog chow?
@theShepherdess23 күн бұрын
Lennart has a few rock clefts that he will use for very bad weather, but by the time blizzards become regular in the Alps, he has let the alps for the Cevennes region (we visited right before he moved for the season). He carries dog chow up in his backpack :).
