one of helpful way to work on modes was understanding intervals both mayor and minor scale

I always work on modes while I write, example, say I’m in f major I’ll shift between g minor and d minor and try to write melody using g Dorian(notes of f major) then I’ll change key to e major shift between the g and use Phrygian then change key to d maj and use g Lydian etc, not necessarily in that order but I like mixing the colours, am I making sense? 😀

Great video. Rather than playing all modes starting from C, I teach my students to play from a single key signature. For example in the key of C, play all seven scales starting from each note of the C scale. Once that is mastered, then play across the patterns... C Ionian to D Dorian, to E Phrygian, etc... that way if a wrong note is played, you will hear it right away.

Can you try to find different major scale and ionian mode? I had a thought that it is different. As the Major scale is very dependent on chord changes, each note you are aiming for, will need a separate chord to emphasize it. Meanwhile, ionian can stand alone. For example, when playing ionian, you play more notes other than 1-3-5-7 . Would you like to try it? And give your opinion about it.

When I was learning guitar it was a case of trying to copy from your fav bands, pausing and rewinding Cd's constantly to try and pick up licks and solos, reading some crappy books and trying to figure it all out. It was hard! Now you can just click on a video and learn direct from an actual legend level musician! Amazing times. Thanks so much for your content. ❤

5 mins in and I'm blown away. So inspiring that you keep making C major scale awesome in its own right, and then bringing in the next mode (name forgotten right now)... just had to say. I'm circling your patreon, almost there. Thanks Rotem.

Thank you for explaining modes while staying in one key. I have seen too many videos that assume it's easier to demonstrate dorian in D, phrygian in E, etc, which completely misses the point of demonstrating the color differences between the modes.

Quick question: how would you recommend I learn the modes? Thinking of the major scales with a focus on the c note or should I think c Dorian as a scale itself

Thank you Rotem for what you do,I appreciate you,I would like to know,on that C background sound ,is that C minor or C major? That sounds minor if I am not mistaken, which brings my question, could those modes (colors) be applied even on major chords? Or it's only for minor chords

*Great* lesson, thank you! Love how you always encourage us to get the *sound* into our heads and ears. A question though: to learn to play these, is it really easier to spring off the fingering of the relative major, or to "bite the bullet"" and learn the fingering of each mode relative to the root. For example, approach Lydian as the fingering of major but with a raised 4th (and generally, adjust the *intervals* relative to major.). Would appreciate your thoughts!
